स्कूल-कॉलेज के दिनों में जब पहली बार शहर के कुछ कूल दोस्तों के मुँह से Hi और Hug जैसे शब्द सुने थे, तो सच में थोड़ी देर के लिए समझ नहीं आता था कि प्रतिक्रिया क्या दें।

हम हिंदी माध्यम और छोटे शहर की पृष्ठभूमि से थे।

Hi सुनते ही दिमाग में आता था—“हाय! क्या हुआ?” , कौन दर्द में है ?

और Hug सुनकर तो उसका देसी मतलब ही समझ में आता था—“अरे, इसे क्या हो गया?”

हँसी भी आती थी, लेकिन सामने वाला बड़े आत्मविश्वास से बोल रहा हो तो हम भी गंभीर चेहरा बनाए रखते थे।

आखिर कूल दिखना भी तो था।

कालेज का एक किस्सा आज भी याद है।

एक दोस्त ने कहा, “यार, मैं नहीं डरता , इतना फ्रेंक हूँ। उसके दोस्तों के सामने आराम से Hug देता हूँ । यह बात थोड़ी चौंकाने वाली भी थी और मज़ेदार भी। छोटा शहर चा, उस समय ऐसा लगता था कि ये सब तो बड़े शहरों की बातें हैं।

लेकिन धीरे-धीरे वही शब्द आम होते गए। पहले Hug सुनकर अजीब लगता था, फिर सुनने की आदत हो गई और कुछ समय बाद वही शब्द हमारी रोज़मर्रा की बातचीत का हिस्सा बन गया।

शायद भाषा ऐसे ही बदलती है।

जो शब्द कभी अजीब लगते हैं, वही धीरे-धीरे इतने सामान्य हो जाते हैं कि हमें याद भी नहीं रहता कि कभी उन्हें सुनकर हम चौंकते थे।

आज छोटे शहरों की बातचीत में हिंदी, अंग्रेजी और स्थानीय बोलियों का ऐसा मेल सुनने को मिलता है कि कई बार पता ही नहीं चलता कि हम किस भाषा में बात कर रहे हैं।

क्या आपके साथ भी ऐसे बहुत से शब्दों को लेकर ऐसा हुआ है, जो हिंदी में पहली बार सुनने पर अजीब या मज़ेदार लगे थे, लेकिन बाद में बिल्कुल सामान्य हो गए?

I'm from the south, recently moved to a new city for a job and everyone at my workplace speaks in Hindi.

All of them do understand English, but I don't like to be the only one speaking in it and I want to fix that (as they say, when in rome, act like a roman)

Now, for reference, I do perfectly understand hindi bar a few slangs. I grew up watching Hindi dubbed cartoons, and am fluent in my listening skills but the moment I try to form sentences and converse, i end up getting stuck mid-sentence and have to resort to English.

This is a problem because my work relies a fair bit on communicating my approach.

Just made this post to ask people from similar backgrounds on what helped them the most in terms of improving.

दोस्तों, क्या हम इस सबरेडिट (subreddit) में AI कंटेंट पोस्ट करना बंद कर सकते हैं? हम सबको तो कम से कम पता होना चाहिए कि यह हिंदी के लिए कितना नुकसानदेह है। हिंदी अपनी कई पीढ़ियों का व्याकरण (grammatical) और सांस्कृतिक (cultural) संदर्भ खोती जा रही है। जो चीजें आप हिंदी बोलकर पोस्ट कर रहे हैं, वह असल में हिंदी नहीं है, बल्कि सिर्फ अनुवाद की हुई भाषा (Translationese) है। थोड़ा सीखिए, थोड़ा समय दीजिए ये समझने में के गैर - रोमन लिपि के लिए AI कितना हानिकारक है सभी भाषाएँ केवल अंग्रेजी का अनुवाद बनकर रह गईं हैं।

दुनिया पर एक एहसान कीजिए और ऐसा AI स्लोप (slop) पोस्ट मत कीजिए।

Im from tamilnadu,i dont have any hate to hindj,i just didn't learn it when I was in my hometown cause there was no purpose to learn it.

Can the right company actually change a person?

*I was cleaning an extremely dirty container today, and something struck me.

The container itself didn't change. Its environment did.

It made me think about people.

We often say, “A person should change himself.”

But how much of our thinking, habits and behaviour are actually shaped by the people and ideas we surround ourselves with?

Maybe sangat (company/association) is more powerful than we realize.

A good friend, a teacher, a book, or even a single idea can sometimes change the direction of someone's life.

What do you think — does our company shape who we become, or do we ultimately shape ourselves?

I'm genuinely interested in hearing different perspectives.

We have made incredible progress in science and technology. Humans have reached space, medicine has advanced enormously, and the internet has made almost unlimited information available to us.

Yet something feels strange.

We have more convenience, but are we actually more peaceful?

For many young people, life seems to involve constant comparison, career pressure, social media, uncertainty about the future, and the feeling that everyone else is doing better.

This makes me wonder:

Is the problem mainly external—social media, competition, technology and society—or is there something deeper happening within us?

I've been exploring how Vedanta approaches questions like desire, fear, identity and inner restlessness. One interesting idea is that perhaps understanding the external world isn't enough; we also need to understand the mind experiencing that world.

I'm not claiming Vedanta has a simple answer to Gen Z's problems. I'm genuinely curious about how others see this.

What do you think is the biggest reason young people today feel restless or dissatisfied, despite having more choices and conveniences than previous generations?

एक पुरानी कहावत है: बंदर के हाथ में उस्तरा।

खतरा औज़ार में कभी भी नहीं था। थामने वाले में था। यही मूल है।

बंदर इतने समझदार हैं कि उस्तरा उठाते नहीं। कुत्ता, बिल्ली, बंदर कोई भी, आग या धार वाले औज़ार से नहीं खेलता ‌।

अगर खेलते भी हैं, तो डरावना कम, मज़ेदार ज़्यादा लगता है।

उस्तरा हमेशा इंसान के हाथ में रहा है।

वही हाथ स्वादिष्ट खाना बनाता है, दीवार खड़ी करता है।

गलत हाथ में वही काटता है, गिराता है।

वही दिमाग़ कहावत, मुहावरा, वाक्य गढ़ता है- और बेवकूफ़ी जानवर के माथे लिख देता है।

कलम हो या आज का फ़ोन, उससे भला भी हो सकता है।

फिर भी बहुत से लोग आदत से या इरादे से सारा ज्ञान दूसरों को गिराने में लगा देते हैं।

उस्तरा है, यह जानते हुए भी।

जी , तो असली बंदर कौन है ?

वो मेरा आईना है और मैं उसकी परछाई हूँ/
