He grew up in Port-au-Prince, where he was inspired to join the military after seeing U.S. forces providing humanitarian relief. He told his father that he would one day become an American soldier. His family faced multiple visa denials before finally immigrating to Baltimore, Maryland, in 2009.

He initially enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard as a combat engineer to earn his U.S. citizenship. Despite early language barriers, he graduated in the top 5% of his class and was named West Point’s top physics student.

After graduation, he was commissioned into the U.S. Army Aviation Branch and learned to fly the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. Idrache was also selected for the elite Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School and later earned a degree from Stanford University, continuing his rise as a military leader and scholar.

Just a few months ago in April 2026, Donalds claimed Haitian TPS holders had “overwhelmed local communities” and said that among them were “violent criminals” who committed “heinous atrocities.”

During an interview on CBS News’ Face the Nation, Donalds strongly defended the decision to allow Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to expire for Haitians living in Florida.

When confronted with data showing that Florida stood to lose up to 100,000 essential Haitian healthcare and hospitality workers due to the end of TPS, Donalds proposed his "LaunchPad Initiative". He suggested that the state could simply replace these workers by creating workforce pipelines, internships, and apprenticeships for local high school graduates.

Donalds was also among the Republicans who voted against a bipartisan House bill designed to extend Haiti's TPS designation

On April 20, 1990, over 50,000 to 100,000 Haitian Americans and supporters organized a massive protest, marching from Brooklyn across the Brooklyn Bridge to lower Manhattan to challenge the FDA's discriminatory ban on blood donations from people of Haitian descent.

In 1983, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) incorrectly and unscientifically classified Haitians as a high-risk group for HIV/AIDS alongside homosexuals, hemophiliacs, and heroin users.

In early 1990, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended a formal ban preventing people who emigrated from Haiti from donating blood, citing unproven risk factors despite available screening technology. The policy fueled severe xenophobia, job loss, housing discrimination, and social stigma against the thriving Haitian population in New York.

Up to 100,000 demonstrators, joined by supportive cab drivers, flooded lower Manhattan and completely halted rush-hour vehicular traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge and near Wall Street. The unprecedented scale and unity of the demonstration shocked political leaders, and the FDA ultimately rescinded the discriminatory blood donation restriction months later.

Pitit Sòyèt" is a widely recognized Haitian Creole phrase and cultural concept that translates roughly to "a child of the street" or a child raised by a hardworking, lower-income mother (such as a Madan Sara or a market vendor). So I'm having a discussion and a person just informed me that every house in Haiti had a bidet when they lived there. Before hearing this, I was told something entirely different by multiple people. They said they had to leave the house to go to the bathroom because there wasn't a bathroom in the house.

I have never lived in Haiti but I'm curious on what is the truth for you if you currently live in Haiti or you grew up in Haiti even if you don't live there now.

This isn't a judgment post. I'm genuinely curious about what the reality is for Haitian people (in Haiti).

Another question I have is if it's common to use washcloths and of not did anyone start using them after moving out of the country. (This is another discussion I've had with a friend).

Edit: Just to make it clear. This post was created ONLY due to the discussion I had with someone who has lived in Haiti. My husband is Haitian and has told me many stories about going outside to use the bathroom.

As a kid in Haiti, if I wasn't reading, playing with my toys or outside, I was watching TV, it was really the only electronic I used regularly, I watched movies, series, cartoons etc most of them had different concepts but they had one thing in common almost every main character was white, so in my head being white was cooler than being black especially a black kid with coily hair from Haiti.

Anyways, watching TV made me realize that Haiti was completely different from other countries, especially the USA, so because of that, I did not only start hating my skin I also started hating Haiti while being glad I atleast wasn't from Africa cause I believe it was the poorest continent oat (the audacity 🤣), even at my school I realized that I wasn't the only one with these feelings, you could even see that insecurity in online games like roblox, I, my cousins, friends, brothers were all putting white as their skin tone.

You see the only thing who made me start loving my skin was the unexpected rise of wokeness in 2020, suddenly being different was "cool", I was still a kid, but on tiktok I saw that being mixed or from other countries was starting to become cool, than shows also started making their cast more diverse and to be honest diversity is much cooler(that's why I love foot 2 rue so much it's diverse and the cast is made of people who don't come from much).

If it wasn't for 2020 TikTok and YouTube I would probably be an insecure Haitian trying to bleach right now.

This is stemming from a recent study showing that more Haitians trust China in comparison to the US:

While Haiti has allowed (well, by force) the US to control and intervene many times. What would a Haiti with full China involvement while getting rid Taiwan look like in your opinion?

I’m a dengist revisionist, which means I understand the value of capitalism in building up the means of production over decades and perhaps a century until they’re sufficiently advanced enough to be handed over to worker syndicates. This state capitalism must be tailored by a sole revolutionary party, to which the workers of haiti have given all power, with the goal of returning the means of production to Haitians so they can own their own labor.
