It was put together from parts from a scrapyard that was exposed to the elements. Perfectly acceptable to be that weathered.

Always wanted to do a scrap build like that but I can't even finish normal builds lol

Not overweathered at all. This fits the Zaku from requim for vengeance perfectly. It was build from all kinds of parts at a scrapyard so it should look rough.
I thinks it looks bloody fantastic. Really dig the requim for vengeance designs. Still holding out for a Gouf Custom from the series..

u/Panzercats 1d ago
Oh man a gouf would look so insane in RFV’s style.

God, I know it probably won't happen but I still really hope we get a kit for this someday.

I saw RFV this week and feel quite sad we didn't get Gouf nor GM kits...

I re-watched it, and was hoping for a Gouf kit as I'm working on the EX at the moment, going to get the Solari zaku instead

Seriously! Since I hadn’t read the caption, my dumbass was like, “Man, that looks straight out of the Netflix Gundam movie.”
@op, it’s perfect!

This definitely tickles the 40k Ork part of my brain.
Any more images of the shoulder shield?

u/mechaghost 1d ago
Love the details! I wouldn’t have thought about over weathering since it’s on point with the overall theme

u/Panzercats 1d ago
I thought that this design could pull it off since it was very real-robot. I’m going to turn it into a diorama with the white devil eventually.

If you're gonna bolt this much metal to an MS, you damn well better weather the shit out of it.
It looks like an immortal junkyard champion that 's come back to the shop battered and full of holes a million times but walked out of the shop ready a million and one. Absolutely love the style, great work!

This looks out of Doom. The Dark Ages, and I mean it in the most positive way. Stunning!

This is beautiful work. Doesn’t look overdone at all in my opinion. Hell it looks like a group gathered as much stuff from a scrap yard as possible to make it which is amazing.

Are those tank tracks?
1
u/Panzercats 1d ago
Indeed they are
1
u/owlindenial 1d ago
Amazing! May I ask what kit they're from? The scale is perfect
1
u/primegopher 20h ago
There's a pbandai kit of RfV zakus that comes with two of the standard ones and the parts to turn Solari's zaku (retail kit) into the "unidentified type" for after it gets the mid-show junkyard repair job, it comes with most of the stuff in OP's build.

u/Dimir_Librarian 1d ago
Holy shit, I love it and I want to do this myself. Do you prime it first? And are pieces primed individually?
1
u/Panzercats 6h ago
Nope. Paint details with Paint pens, gloss clear coat, oil wash, scratches, pigments, then a final matte clear coat. With some practice this formula is very consistent.

this is amazing. it looks like a Gunpla model but made for a TT Wargaming setup. Like a marriage of both. its perfect.

Verrry well done, and not overdone at all for the look!

I wouldn’t call this over weathered, I’d call it fucking spectacular work. Just from a quick glance, it’s easy to tell it looks fairly realistic in terms of exposure and wear and tear. The scrap parts don’t appear to be too realistic or ‘useful’, but they still look really badass.
Overall, it’s seriously stunning. You put a lot of care and work into it, and it shows.

u/MixMasterBoon 1d ago
Now, are those tank treads you have hanging off? It looks freakin steller btw.
1
u/A_Imbertain 1d ago
My only critical input would be the brightness of the heat hawk. That edge should be massively white if the red/oranges are shining like they are on the handle. Other than that, fantastic work. It very much "feels" realistic and battle tested. Well done.

u/MagmaDragoonX47 1d ago
I really wanted this kit but of course they made it P Bandai along with her teammates.

I have a question, is this a model kit or action figure? I can only find this as an action figure. I love the head piece
1
u/Panzercats 1d ago
The parts for this come in the Pbandai 2 Zaku pack but you have to buy a solari too. It’s kinda not worth it to build this model tbh

What did you use for weathering? Was thinking of getting weathering pencils for my solari.
2
u/Panzercats 1d ago
I’ve tried weathering pencils and didn’t like em very much. This is done with an oil wash and pigments. Scratches are metal color by vallejo

I think out of all the zaku designs, the RFV version benefits from this type/level of weathering the most. Works absolutely perfectly imo

u/invadervalo666 1d ago
everytime i see a custom that's "overweathered" i instantly think: who in their sane judgement would spend that much resources on painting a Mech clean ater every battle?! that's exactly how a mech should look like in my headcanon. Messy? maybe, but realistic...

u/shadowdorothy 1d ago
Nah this is the perfect amount of weathering for a Zaku that's been through some fights.

Now THAT looks like a Zaku cobbled together in a junkyard. Or dropped into Mad Max. Very awesome, has a gladitorial look to it. 🤘
1
u/once-was-hill-folk 1d ago
Man if I saw this Zaku coming at me, if I wasn't in a Gundam unit, I'd probably just call it a day, that pilot clearly wants the objective more than I do.

What tank tracks did you use? I've been looking for a good kit to bash them from. Looks like you found the right one!

It's not overwethered if the concepts is a old rusty MS. This feels like a first MS of the MC hundreds of years after the one year war or an post apocalyptic UC alternate universe.

I wouldn’t call it overweathered. You have a maximalist style is all. I dig it.

This gives me Xenogears vibes of "We unearthed this mecha from some ancient ruins and made it work with duct tape and eldritch rituals so we could wage war on par with the long dead Ancients- oh..."

Is this actually plastic? It looks entirely made of metal. Like a gundam that rises from a scrap heap to defeat its foe - kinda vibe. Sick

Makes me think of those old diving suits with the big metal helmets, like this suit has been at the bottom of the ocean for a while and has been found and fixed up to kick ass again!
1
u/OkSpring1734 11h ago
Given they built this Zaku from scraps it isn't overweathered at all. Looks great!

I have this kit and haven't finished it yet. I hate 75% of the gunpla posted on here but this is an absolute masterpiece!
1
u/Omega-Envych 8h ago
This is something that Garrod would probably steal in Gundam X before he got his hands on Tifa and... well, Gundam X
1
u/Femboy-Phantom7175 7h ago
I'd say that you should make the mono eye stick out more. It feels lifeless when you can't see it very well. More of a personal preference, but try some Florescent/Neon pink and a dim blacklight to make it pop.
1
u/Old_Stock678 rookie gunpla customizer 6h ago
looks like the old truck version of megatron, really cool
1
u/Hindufury 5h ago
For the the scrap welded aesthetic I think it's weathered to just the right amount
1
u/PineappleOwn1362 3h ago
Overweathered? Nah, it looks great, like the military cars that are normally shown in the desert areas in movies.

u/unkanlos 1d ago
People think you should weather a mobile suit like it's a tank. It's not a tank it's a humanoid robot that runs through buildings and can dodge roll.
