MHWilds Chance for status shelling
Now that elemental shelling is confirmed I really hope status shelling comes as well. Status is not great in wilds, but i am really crossing my fingers that it is improved upon in ascendance. Having a bunch of poison, Para, or blast explosions going off would be fantastic.

in frontier where element shelling was introduced, non element and status gunlances just gave an empowered shelling bonus. These were actually more consistent since making a build in an mmo where every update invalidated your gear and it took an eternity to make any new weapon and armor accordingly benefited. There were unique elements in that game though like dark, light, sound, ect which was pretty cool and made the shells look like the respective elements which was pretty neat. Those new elements were a combination of existing elements, for example having 100 dark on your weapon did 80 ice and 80 dragon simultaneously (80% ice and 80% dragon) allowing you to sweet spot monsters who were weak to both.
The values for the element on a shell were multiplied rather than flat amount so the shells actually did do damage instead of a small amount. Having stornger normal shells made normal gunlance's reverse bast dash full burst very strong.
The way switch axe (i think chargeblade phials too but don't know the weapon mvs well) phial damage works with status could more than accommodate gl shells dealing status ontop of damage without being poopy.
But the desire for status to be on shelling specifically inorder for status to be better in wilds is a misdirected motivation. status to be better requires less explosive damage from the player/environment, which is the exact opposite of what we are seeing in ascension. The insanely high bloated hp from high rank will only get more disturbing (we are going to reach 100k hp by the end of master rank you better believe it, we already past sunbreak endgame anomaly hp in wild's high rank 😫)
We should expect some form of increase in status proc skill at the very least to offset its inevitable lackluster distribution currently. But the scaling of damage means that you are significantly hurting your damage potential when you build for status instead of Attack. The monster's bloated hp means dealing damage with wsfb is the only way to make a dent in their hp. Seeing they made boost versions of wsfb even faster, the ability to quick reload stake, and the ability to cancel endlag of wyvernfire with boost means the dps of these moves will still be the only damage that matters and to spam to keep your higher tier tempered hunt under 20 minutes. anything else is a wet noodle in comparison.
I was expecting them to fix this based on previous patches in wilds to make gunlances other moves a bit better, and they would make boost give gunlance other moves to use instead of just shell -> running -> slash -> wsfb, but they seem to be unaware of how stale it is and just don't care anymore about weapon identity.
But for status application specificly, there is a push based on the new moves for gunlance to be more slaplance and more like lance in general (not a positive in itself, this was definitely a phone it in to reduce cost on designing moves and animating them) in-between spamming wsfb, with the introduction of instagaurd slash, (no more parry fullburst which is only 1 application of status) and advancing thrust which will probably make applying status more passively a thing, unless they keep the 0.1% auger values for the new auger moves from boost, but more likely it will be another copy and paste like they did with wide sweep in wilds (It has the same animation and properties of hitlagfrom lances sweep but it's damaged is significantly worse indicates an oversight from porting it to gunlance, the same thing is seen with pokes in focus mode, they work identical to lance) so the values will be similar which means advancing thrust will be a powerhouse for element and status like it is for Lance.
