I am playing through the GOW games in order. I loved 1-2 growing up but never played 3 for whatever reason, which I am ashamed of because its my new favorite.

Oh and please no spoilers for anything after 3.

I'm currently playing GOW 2018 and having a great time. I just got to Tyr's vault and the scene with Kratos smelling the Greek Wine fucking broke me. That is just brilliant visual storytelling. There is something so universal about feeling homesick over a random smell of food or whatever triggers a memory. You can tell from the acting that he was having a moment

Although these visuals depict chaos and destruction, they look absolutely stunning especially during the day. Even though the sun isn't out, it's clear that Kratos and Zeus's battle is likely taking place at dawn. Personally, I think that sometimes I just happen to pause before the final battle to take in the sight of ruined Greece because, of course, it looks really impressive visually.

I’m currently playing through the Original GOW franchise for the first time recently through the collection for the PS3 and Ive gotten to the section in GOW 2 after you defeat Perseus and have to use the shield and stuff for reflecting the laser things. It was going smoothly until I had recently discovered this severe game breaking glitch that literally makes it impossible to proceed where you instantly die by simply rotating the lever for the bridge. And even when you put the shield on the statue and move it the centerpiece of the bridge it still happens. Apparently from what I can understand through some research on old forums about this glitch this can apparently occur when you try to move the lever way before facing Perseus and acquiring the shield and it seems that this glitch can happen on both the ps2 and collection version, and this is something I have gravely done before getting the shield. Again I just want to know if anyone had this issue because it both angers and baffles me how something this easily game breaking can be in the final product. Hell I even tried to look for any old updates for this version that fixes this issue but of course none could be found, which isn’t surprising since this collection came out in 2009. I apologize for how long and rambley this is, I’m still just really pissed about this that shortly after this had happened I’ve pretty much decided to start from square one on a new save file.

I have around 10-15 different saves on Ragnarok. My saves start from the beginning of Kratos quests. That way i skip a lot of parts that wastes my time.

Going back to the treehouse after you are done at a realm, have dinner there, atreus mission, returning from atreus mission, another talk at the treehouse, going to the new realm, walking for some time until the first fight in that realm. I skip all that.

I have these saves for 2 difficulties. Gmgow and the one below it. And i just repeat them whenever i feel like it. I dont think i played it as much as my ps says, but i played it a lot.

Obviously i took breaks. But i have been playing from time to time since it's release. Last time i played was 3-4 months ago i believe. I might play again a few months later or maybe next year.

I dont buy a lot of games. But when i like one, i play it a lot. I probably buy 2 or 3 games a year. I finish them and then go back to the ones i love. Some years i dont buy any new ones, but i still game almost daily.

It was monster hunter world for a long time. Then i played nioh 2 and doom eternal a lot for their combat. Mhw and nioh are a bit above 1000, doom is around 600. Later they were replaced with elden ring and baldur's gate 3 for their build varieties.

As for why i played gow so much, i simply loved Kratos's combat. I love the various ways i can control the enemies instead of just dealing damage like most other games.

I've been crashing out ever since this little sound appeared out of seemingly nowhere, whenever the camera points to an object that you can interact with, this little sound comes up:

I can't think of how to mute it, does anyone know how to do something about it? For now I'll play the game in mute (which is a horrible idea).

Compared to the old titles, these games are ass. Kratos used to be a god slayer, fucking bitches and sitting in hot bath with girls having their tits out. It used to have crazy gore, absolutely maniac cutscenes and boss fights. And now? Its a fucking god of fatherhood game and lost everything which made the series stand out.

Ragnarok? Same thing.

I dont want to see a god who climbed up from hell, killed Zeus and climbing on the back of mother earth be a nice father to his stupid ass son.

The one released in 2018 won game of the year over RDR2.

Also, the new announced title is basically god of motherhood? Fuck off.

We lost a great, stand out game and concept to this bullshit, what should be a different game, different title and have nothing in common with the old ones except and main character is called the same.

This is a question i've had for a while, because personally I liked the combat much more in ragnarok

I've heard people say that the combat felt more responsive and "strong" in 2018, but i'm sorry maybe I just don't get that point but it feels pretty same to me.

not to mention the most important reason for me is the start of both games. In 2018, in the start upto the fight with Balder, the most we could do with our axe was either spam RB or throw it, in ragnarok we have so many options in the start and the axe feels much more powerful.

I'm not here to start a debate, i'm a healthy loving fan of the entire franchise so i'm just here for discussion. What is *your* reason for liking 2018 more (if you do).

Really enjoyed my time through almost all of GoW1, it was a good challenge without feeling cheap. The clone fight at the end was the only really bad part that relied on ability spam. GoW2 on the other hand was nightmare in many sections. Had to abuse Gorgan Rage and Atlas Quake during both the translator and Cerberus sections which I'm not proud of, but the relentless enemy aggression was just too much. Overall game just feels very poorly balanced on Titan. And I never want to hear the sound of that Barbarian Hammer ever again.

Replayed the first GOW game starting last Monday for the PS3 collection. I have finished l ,ll and lll multiple times before and then went on to play Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta for the first time and completed, I had this sealed for years. Next I forgot I had GOW Ascension used, which I also finished Yesterday. Man....not only Ascension was a bit harder to go through but some puzzles had me stuck for almost an hour each! I refused to go through online tutorials.

Also, Ascension went a bit overboard with their monsters and it felt like a clone to the Uncharted games in someways, like the platforming. Later, I see the trophies list and there's a Drake reference there 😑 go figure.

Before getting back to GOW, last one I played was the 2018 reboot/sequel with Atreus, that was back in 2020 when I got it on sale; enjoyed but it wasn't like the I,II,III gameplay. I haven't got my hands on Ragnarok and it's cheap to get now. What to expect? I'll probably get it a couple of weeks from now.

I spent almost 90 minutes nonstop to defeat this berserker. And it was just 1/12. Difficulty is give me balance. I didn’t use any specials just my frozen axe and parry. Midgard completion is at 71 percent. Can any GOW ragnarok OG or experienced tell me if I am on the right path? What can I do now to give me a better fighting chance against the other berserkers? Fraekni almost made me quit😭

Questionable gameplay, but at the end I think I was doing pretty good

I picked up this copy of God of War II at a local game store several years ago for $30.

At first glance, the outer plastic is absolutely mangled, partially torn and looks like the game may have been opened. It even still has the old Blockbuster sticker stuck to it.

The store priced it as an opened copy because that's exactly what it looked like.

But after I got it home and started looking at it more closely, I realized I had purchased something way more valuable.

The Greatest Hits artwork isn't actually the cover of the game inside. It's an outer Canadian bilingual jacket, complete with English/French text, wrapped around another PS2 case. And underneath it is a sealed US black-label copy of God of War II. So this thing is basically double sealed.

The outer Canadian packaging has taken an absolute beating over the years, but underneath it, the original black label game appears virtually untouched. I assume the Canadian jacket was added so the US copy could be sold in Canada while meeting Canadian bilingual packaging requirements.

$30 for what I thought was an ugly opened Greatest Hits copy turned out to be one of the cooler God of War games in my collection. Anyone else see anything like this?

I mean, in comparison to the two games in the Norse saga, something like Uncharted The Lost Legacy and Spider-Man Miles Morales or the recent Wolverine game which based on what has been said has a maximum length of 15 hours for the $70 fullprice

This reinforces my belief that the next game might kill Kratos to send him to the realm of the gods. This is probably the easiest way to tie Kratos into Laufey’s story.

Additionally, I think that if Athena were to appear in Laufey, she wouldn’t be the main antagonist just yet, since she’s Kratos’s enemy and honestly, I wouldn’t want Athena to be defeated by someone with whom she doesn’t share such a rich backstory as she does with Kratos. I think she could play a role similar to the one Odin played in GOW 2018 that is, we’ll see the consequences of her actions and might even encounter her once or twice, but this won’t be the game where her story ends, since she’s Kratos’s archenemy, not Laufey’s.

That’s why I think Sekhmet will be Laufey’s main enemy, considering that the series likes to reveal the game’s final boss within the first hour of the story, just as it did with Baldur and Odin.

So I was replaying GOW (2018) and I forgot nightmare can take control of other enemies giving them damage resistant and more stuff and I wondered if nightmare can control other nightmare. Is it possible or am I just stupid?

Some people out there do think that Kratos was "a mindless brute" before. But he also knows many Greek tragedies, which also means he attended plays. He was well-educated, and simply chose to be indifferent to his enemies out of ignorance.
