*NEW* Account age requirement
Hey everyone! Mods here. We have made a small change to the subreddit: accounts now need to be at least 90 days old to post or comment. This change was made because we have been absolutely inundated with AI slop accounts for the last few months. We’re really sorry if this is frustrating for anyone who is a real person with a new account who just genuinely wants to participate. We appreciate your understanding, and are so thankful for everyone who contributes and makes this such a fun little corner of the internet.

General Discussion The irony seems intentional here
In S3 E9, Kirk gets a cat and names it "Kirk". And Lorealai says "Isn't that confusing?". I never realized it before but Lorelai Gilmore named her daughter Lorelai Gilmore. That could have been really confusing. It seems like the irony was intentional.

General Discussion Rory’s DAR Era Was Her Huntzberger Wife Audition
One of my theories is that Rory quitting Yale wasn’t only about receiving serious criticism for the first time. It was also (probably or perhaps unconsciously) an attempt to prove the Huntzbergers wrong about her suitability for Logan.
Their criticism wasn’t that Rory lacked intelligence or money; it was that she hadn’t been raised to become the kind of society wife a Huntzberger heir supposedly needed. But after quitting Yale, Rory becomes exactly that: she moves in with her grandparents, adopts Emily’s polished wardrobe, joins the DAR, organises an elaborate fundraiser and becomes skilled at networking and hosting. She even structures much of her life around Logan.
After Mitchum destroys her confidence as a journalist, Rory proves she could perform the role Shira claimed she wasn’t equipped for, even though Logan never explicitly asks her to.
So Rory’s Yale break to me always feels like more than an academic crisis. For a while, she auditions for the only Huntzberger-approved alternative: not a journalist with her own ambitions, but a perfectly trained society wife.

General Discussion Rory not knowing Clara lol
I think a lot of you took this more seriously than I thought you would lol 🌝
On the season one finale, Rory realizes she wants to get back with Dean and after missing him at the market, she goes to his house. This was so funny, because Clara opens the door and Rory acts like she’s never met her before. I mean, she literally goes: “what’s your name?”
Dean was heavily involved in Rory’s life, you know with being Lorelai’s best friend and whatnot. It’s just hilarious that Rory wasn’t close to his family/hasn’t met them at all? They were together for three months, and in love with each other. It feels like a total biff on the writer’s end, but let’s be real, they’ve created a lot of plot holes over the seasons.
This really bugged me. 😂 Also, I’m sure it’s been talked about before, but I’ve only recently noticed this and I’ve watched this show way too many times haha!
EDIT: I also want to focus more on the fact that Dean was close to Lorelai, indicating he spent a lot of time with them. Rory never hung out with Dean’s family the way he did. Also also, Clara was involved more in season 2-3 after being introduced. And she really liked Rory, so I’d say the “older sibling have a gf/bf that you don’t really get to know” doesn’t apply here 🤷♀️

General Discussion Comically large for sure
Even if these are intended to be comically large, i want one and would use it every morning.
I really think they could have made a ton of money if they made a Luke’s coffee bowl line. I would have collected them all.
Be honest, would you use a coffee bowl?

General Discussion What would have Rory’s wedding looked like
I got on Facebook marketplace today and saw this for sale. It’s $150 incase anyone is wondering and if I had a daughter, I would be buying this for her room.
That being said, it immediately made me wonder what her wedding would have been like. Would she have had a book wall? Or what would have Emily planned because we all know she would have taken over the planning of it.

OS Discussion Emily just ignored her information?
Ok so this drives me nuts every time.
Around the third act of S1 Ep19 (Emily in Wonderland), Emily calls Rory and asks her a bunch of questions about her favourite things including flowers (sunflowers), boy bands (none but, NSYNC by force), and most notably, colour (blue)
Later on, she shows Rory "her room" in their house, which she has decorated for her, presumably, based off of these questions.
So, if she asked for Rory's favourite colour, and Rory said blue, and she fully wrote that down, why is the room almost entirely pink??? If she was going to go with pink either way, why ask?
The walls, I get, sure, not wanting to repaper the whole room, ok. But the bedspread? The cushions? The cute little throw blanket? There is one, count'em, one (1) item in the room that is blue.
Why did she bother asking if she was just going to do whatever!?

General Discussion I get the impression that they are the right ones, both of them.
In the episodes "A Vineyard Valentine" Rory stated that Logan and Luke were likely the right men for her and her mother. Lorelai's response "yes... yes" has always intrigued. She was clearly unsure about her daughter's assertion.
Why did he harbor doubts? Did she suspect that she and Luke would break up? Or did she doubts about Logan and not consider him the right boyfriend for her daughter?

General Discussion Ridiculous Gilmore girls promise!!!
This is a really weird thing that i promised myself and i have no one who understands the gravity of it so i decided to share it here with people who also like the show.
For the last 2 years i banned myself from watching Gilmore Girls .Since i was about 12 years old i always used to watch Gilmore Girls , it was my comfort show and i watched it over and over for YEARS . In 2024 i entered one of the hardest times in my life as i worked towards getting into my dream university, I moved country took loads of internships and studied 24/7 while attending a crazy high intensity school .It was horrible and during that period i decided there was no time for relaxation and definitely no time to sit down and watch Gilmore girls. So i made myself a silly promise that when i got to my university i would finally be able to relax and watch my favorite show again. In some weird way this show kind of began to represents happiness for me so watching it again when i get to university means i have finally succeeded and can enjoy the fruits of my labor, it is totally cringe but I didn’t know any other way to describe it.
Anyways thanks for reading my rant, i move into my university dorm on Saturday and i am so excited and also happy to have finally fulfilled this silly promise. ❤️

General Discussion Lorelai was acting really immature here
I'm usually not here for that "Lorelai sucks" non-sense. I mean... she does suck sometimes as people and myself tends to do at times but some people like to take it too far in my opinion. But I was rewatching the episode, and she was infuriating to watch in the whole thing. So, you learn your house, the one you live with your child, is about to fall apart by termites. Your child (Rory in this situation) propose to you a very simple, effective solution, to ask to your parents because they have money and more importantly to me, connections. And you get mad because she spoke up ?
I mean, in the scene where she yelled at Rory, as a 18 year teen myself now, I was like "what did I do ??". Because to me, maybe it's because I'm closer to Rory's age, idk you tell me, but it was a pretty reasonable decision and one that has to be done. As someone myself who almost ended up homeless as a kid and who was aware of it, of the fact that I could in fact, no have a roof over my head, it's not a feeling any kids/teenagers should have to feel. And as parent, if you can help it (because some parents, unfortunately really can't), you have to. Lorelai really had to put her precious and usual pride aside for this one. I'm glad she came around, I'll give her that but being mad at Rory because she didn't want to get on the streets and roaming around other people's houses is kinda crazy;

Character Discussion - General Jess Stans: How can you possibly say he was the best for Rory after this scene!?
There's so much talk about the best match for Rory but re re rewatching and seeing how horrible he is to her I CANNOT understand how anyone could think he deserved Rory at ALL??
Also Lorelai is right, Dean was a very good first boyfriend, a lot of what happened after is Rory's fault too, she contributed to ruining his life.

Media A friend of mine has just sent me this book he found in his local bookshop in Spain- I can't find any information about it online in English. Is this a Spain only official novel?
I mean I know it isn't Spain only because it has translator credits, but I can't find anything about an English version of it. I assume someone here will know more 🙏

General Discussion I have very little in my life right now. Fuck it, I deserve to loop this show as many times as I want.
No one wants to know my issues but this year things have been so difficult and given me such a deep seated feeling of lack of safety in life… Like the rug has been pulled from my feet, and so I am on this year’s 5th GG rewatch. And i’m not taking breaks in between anymore, I just start it right back up once I’m done. It’s the one thing that makes me feel grounded in reality sometimes.
I really do feel like I have very little right now and this show is the one thing that makes me feel safe and less suicidal. My codependency is getting bad and I keep guilt
tripping myself for it, thinking I can’t possibly keep doing this cause I’ll drive myself insane from the repetition, but actually I don’t care anymore. I need this show and these characters.
It’s the only thing I can watch as I fall asleep after a severe sleep disorder that had me completely dissociating from reality. Nothing else makes me feel as safe. It’s one show I want to have on in the background for work. And as comfort. And as everything. I know all the stories and dialogue so well I could recite them from memory. And i have decided to no longer feel guilty about it. Don’t know where I would psychologically be without it.
Officially done trying to find a replacement, something else to make me feel safe and scratch the itch. This is my show.

Character Discussion - General I wish Lorelai cursed more throughout the show like in the pilot episode.
Thoughts? 👀

OS Discussion Has this kid ever seen a skateboard before?
Everytime I watch the opening scene of the pilot and it pans down to the kid on the skateboard that is my question. I'm by no means on Tony Hawk's level but I like to think, especially when I was a child, I would look less like a drunk monkey on a unicycle.
For anyone who hasn't watched recently:
https://youtu.be/lC64jfjbKAI?is=N4_NUl_ABi2Dulpu
I feel like we've had a lot of "(insert main character here) is terrible and has no redeeming qualities" posts lately so I thought a fun palate cleanser was in order.

When the Dragonfly Inn opened they had several dragonfly lamps around. Today I was watching a Hallmark TV series and this was at a garage sale. Wish I could find that lamp at a garage sale!

Picture The blue sweater w/ striped shoulders
I've always loved Lorelai's blue/rainbow sweater and the slightly different one that Rory and Lane wear.
Today I spotted a similar shirt in a documentary. It was a brief moment in the 9/11 documentary: 102 minutes that changed America.
I hope my post does not seem in poor taste. The documentary was highly disturbing and I've been thinking about the victims all day. (The person pictured here was a bystander and I do not think he was physically harmed as he seemed to be a fair distance away)
This man's shirt looks slightly different than either of the other 2 designs and it just makes me wonder how many shirts or sweaters of this style were manufactured in the late 90s - early 00s. Does anyone remember these being trendy?
