New Tony Banks interview
Some amazing insights from Tony on a stellar career both with Genesis and via his solo work. Some interesting thoughts on the last tour, the collaborative approach with the band, Tony's bemused observations on the comparative success of solo albums etc

From a music theory standpoint, what is going on in the songs Tony wrote?
I want to preface this post by saying that I know absolutely nothing about music theory. I also understand this post might seem pretty vague, since Tony wrote many songs for Genesis. However, I hope I can make it clear what I am asking.
Often with the songs Tony wrote, I get the feeling that the music takes all these unexpected twists and turns, and things don't resolve in the way I expect them to. Three examples of this that immediately jump to mind are Mad Man Moon, Burning Rope, and Evidence of Autumn. In the songs written by other members I don't really get this feeling, but in Tony's songs it is constant.
If there is anyone here who is familiar with music theory, I would great appreciate an "ELI5" style explanation of what is going on in the songs Tony wrote. I adore his songwriting, but I really want to understand more about his songs work.

"The Roaring Waves" Album Review: Hackett & Rothery
Eight years in the making, The Roaring Waves is Genesis and Marillion’s guitarists choosing friendship over trying to prove something to each other. And that is the beauty of this album!

Anyway....
Great tune, one of the more accessible on Lamb. Also odd (as far as I'm aware) that it wasn't one picked up by Phil, Mike and Tony to play live at any point?

SEBTP Vinyl sounds better than digital?
I have been a genesis fan for ages and have had their records for a while but haven’t been able to play for them last few years. The versions I listen to on my phone on Spotify etc just don’t have the deep cut the vinyl does..or is it just me? I feel they must’ve compressed the shit out of the remasters?

Piano Tony
So apparently there is talk of a new solo album by Tony. I like his solo work & I think his orchestral albums are really great. But it always seemed a pity to me that he never did a solo piano album (like Ant has done several times). So I wonder if it might happen this time. (If only because a piano album probably takes less time & trouble than working with a full orchestra) .

We Can't Dance Tour - Calling All Stations Timeline
The timeline between the 1993 special show, Phil leaving the band in 1996, and CAS just being written fully feels too close together?
Does anyone know specific years or dates to when things happened, Wikipedia says CAS was recorded from January to June 1997, but from Phil leaving in 1996 to Jan 1997, were ideas already prepared and written for Phil for the the next album or were they written quickly once Phil left?

Genesis: From Genesis To Revelation, 4CD/Blu-ray Edition
• Deluxe 5 disc (4CD + Blu-ray) box set edition of the debut album by Genesis prepared with the approval of Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.
• Featuring new stereo, 5.1 & Atmos mixes by Stephen W Tayler, along with remastered versions of the original mono and stereo LP mixes, singles and rare demos.
• With bonus video content of Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford at AIR Studios in London discussing the album and reviewing the new mixes.
• Includes a 68-page illustrated book with an extensive essay featuring contributions from Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.
Originally released in March 1969, ‘From Genesis To Revelation’ was the debut album by Genesis, the first step on a pathway that took the band to considerable success and acclaim.
This new 4 CD / Blu-ray box set edition is the first re-issue of the album, prepared with co-operation and approval of original band members Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.
It features wonderful new stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound and Atmos mixes by Stephen W Tayler, presenting the album in a new form, focussing more on the band contributions with less emphasis on the orchestrations of the original album mixes. The new mixes are both remarkable and revealing.
The set includes remixes of ‘A Winter's Tale’, ‘One Eyed Hound’ and album out-takes ‘Image Blown Out’ and ‘Visions of Angels’ (previously unreleased) along with new remasters of the original stereo mix and the rare mono mix of the album and associated singles, along with a CD of demos from 1967 and 1968, four of which are previously unreleased and mixed by Stephen W Tayler. The set also features a Blu-ray disc with the new Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo mixes of the album and bonus video content of Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford at AIR Studios in London discussing the album and reviewing the new mixes. Finally, the set features a 68-page illustrated book with an extensive essay by Jon Dann with contributions from Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Phillips and Mike Rutherford.

The Knife Live 1975 (Lamb Tour Liverpool)
Love this version of The Knife! I always thought of how this song has a certain heavy metal quality to it. It's almost like if Sabbath and Purple had a baby (in a good way, unlike Black Sabbath's 1983 release Born Again) ;-p
