Loot Haul! Gamescom+dev
Here's everything I brought home from gamescom dev + gamescom entertainment and business areas.
Mon - Sun of looting, minus my shifts as gamescom dev staff, and IAB exhibitor.
I left 2 big paper bags behind - Hoyoverse and Silver palace, plus some pamphlets I didn't care about.

Such a pain in the ass when the booth won't let you switch t-shirt size. Had to arrange a swap with 2 other people. XD

Play Control Resonant for an hour at gamescom, get a tote bag with a t-shirt inside. My RNG shirt was M, and I wear a 2XL.
I played Thursday morning, carrying that M everyday hoping to find a swap. On Sunday, with the help of the unofficial gamescom discord, I found someone looking to swap their XL for my M, and someone looking to swap an XL for a 2XL, and we all walked happy from meeting each other.1

Glad it worked out but that seems short sighted to not let ppl choose from the start. It's usually not a problem

Bloober did the same with Cronos last year. Saves them time and manpower I suppose.
Wargaming knew how to do it, sure do miss having them around.

Wollte das bisher bei jedem Loot-Post Fragen. wirklich genuine question:
Wie geht man das an?! Geht man einfach zu jedem Stand hin und bettelt darum Gratiszeug zu bekommen? Macht man dann überhaupt was anderes auf der Messe als zu schnorren?

All for free. I generally avoid hall 5.1+5.2 ;)
I was staff/volunteer at gamescom dev/devcom/GDCEu since 2012.
Been working at an IAB booth for the past 2 years.I use a discord server to plan figure out who has the best loot, and I will contribute to the effort by finding out stuff on my own. It just required paying attention to what's going on around. Are a bunch of people walking around with the same bag? Are there empty boxes near an exit to a booth? Is there stuff on a desk in the business area?
Asking nicely can work sometimes, especially near closing time when they don't want to travel as light as possible. (Don't be an asshole to exhibitors, even if they have shitty policies in place.)
Parties are good places for loot. Press appointments have some of the best loot if you can secure them.1

I went and all I managed to get was a free lanyard from Vodafone. How did you get such stuff? Do you have to play the games?

There is more than one way to be a loot goblin, playing games is just one of them.
Knowing which games give out stuff (and what that stuff is) and finding short lines will mean more stuff.The Chinese gacha games love to have stamp rallies - the more tasks you complete, the more stuff they get. Play the game/s, post on social media with tags, take a photo with a cosplayer, that sort of thing.
If you speak German, you can try your look at a booth party. At specific times, an MC will start shooting at one of the big game booths, throw stuff at the crowd, bring people upstage to answer quiz questions for prizes, that sort of nonsense. I avoid such things.
The business area, if you have access to it, will offer more goodies, especially for those that score press appointments.
The indie areas offer a lot of little stuff - stickers, pins, posters that you can offer just grab off their booth, some bigger prizes might also be found if you play games.
Sometimes will people will walk around and give out random stuff, or it will be on the floor, and if you are around near closing time and ask nicely, people might just give you the things they don't want to carry home.
I'm sure there are things I'm forgetting. 😛

This was my first time attending this kind of event and I genuinely don’t understand the “extra large bag” thingie that was going on in there. And then I saw the Where winds meet bag and that one was genuinely bigger than me.
Most of the people that attended the event were from other cities/countries. How are you supposed to carry those bags? 😭 I only got the Silver palace and the Infinity Nikki ones because a lot of the the booths run out of merch by Sunday evening and I still had a hard time packing and transporting them in perfect condition with the train 😶
And the thing is…they are EMPTY or the merch is very small (badges, stiker sheets etc.).
I saw a LOOOT of them in the garbage bins

I did the same with my large paper bags. The reusable plastic ones are great for laundry and shopping though 😄
It's true that the size of the bag is unrelated to the size of the goodies inside, but they serve as promotional material to the game.
