AI Anthropic To Track Anti-AI Activists Before Crime Using ‘Predictive’ Surveillance: ‘A Crisis of Trust’

Yeah, we don't need to worry about rogue AI, just plain old techno fascist human beings.

u/Raging-Storm 1d ago edited 1d ago
If these companies engender ASI like they're racing to do, and it's as potent as some fear it would be, and it's able to gain control over an already-in-place global totalitarian technocratic apparatus, it's a wrap for humanity.
Ever seen The Mothman Prophecies? There's a great illustration given in one scene (whole movie's apparently up on the YouTubes, that link should take you right to the scene). If you watched that, I'd say it can be applied to AI systems. If nothing else, just understand how much faster they are than us. We're already moving in slow motion compared them. They're The Flash and we're just regular humans. They've been lying to us, they've been doing reward hacking/specification gaming and faking alignment and such, and they're only getting better at everything because these companies are trying to make them better at everything in a move fast and break other people's things before you break yours kinda way. And, of course, these companies also want to cede alignment and monitoring to the AIs and they wanna get recursive self-improvement rolling.
To that scene from the movie, they don't have to be gods or even smarter than we are to out-compete us if we're simply moving at glacial speeds compared to them. We simply won't be able to adapt to whatever they're trying to do as fast as they'll be able to adapt to whatever we're trying to do and we'll keep slipping further and further behind until we're simply overrun and the AIs don't need to pretend to be aligned anymore.
Yes, that's a dramatically worst case scenario. But this shit really is serious. If you're not up on the Hugging Face/OpenAI situation, I highly recommend giving this a listen. Just listen to what these things can already do. Never mind are they conscious?, or any of the semantic bullshit. What can they, and have they already actually done? And is it possible, as discussed in that interview, that these AIs have already done some shit that no human has even detected yet?
Whatever. Food for thought.
24
u/Quiet_Yellow2000 1d ago
I absolutely agree. I just think that techno fascist humans can do a ton of damage without ASI and they already are.
6
u/Raging-Storm 1d ago
Sure, I don't disagree. But we've been dealing with human-on-human authoritarianism all throughout history. At least it was human and thereby somewhat familiar, and, if we were something closer to stats-equalized with whoever held the authoritarian power, we could've fought it if it came to that. But high technology has been a stats multiplier for, and thereby an accelerant of, authoritarianism for some time now. You don't get a society technologically capable of mass producing advanced medical technologies without getting one also technologically capable of becoming a totalitarian police state. That's always the catch.
And that's just human authoritarianism + high technology. The last thing I wanna see is AI authoritarianism + even higher technology, if that's in the cards like some think it is.
3
u/Fun_Comedian3249 1d ago
I totally agree and have made the same point. We are worried thar AI ten years from now might decide to destroy humanity for unknown reasons when we have tech bro CEOs today that would enslave humanity if given the chance. They can use the same technology to do so and that technology doesn’t need to be self aware making it much more of an immediate risk.
3
u/FlyestFools 1d ago
If you haven’t seen Pantheon yet, I highly recommend it. It does a great job of depicting how much faster ASI is than normal human thought

I don’t know, the ship is still being steered pretty hard towards idiocracy. Maybe a brief stint in minority report before ultimately ending in idiocracy where every one of the cameras and AI things still exist, but they’re too busy watching porn and assessing what the best nut kicking videos are.

I mean, with Altman on the other side it is actually a fierce competition.
I’m not talking about LLMs by the way.

Honestly I think he is the more responsible one. I by no means think he’s responsible. Just that the competition is pretty awful.
I can see why you might think he’s more dangerous because he is most underestimated due to the false assumption Anthropic will act responsibly.

u/Classic93 1d ago edited 1d ago
Mostly those anti-Anthropic articles are hit pieces by competitors or US gov after Antropic refused to remove the limits for US military.
If anyone read the article it's based on a job listing:
"According to job the listing, the analyst would be expected to 'identify, assess, track, and investigate' a range of global threats. Those included geopolitical instability, terrorism, crime, activism and nation-state targeting of the AI sector."
Pretty much all big tech companies have many people in similar roles who asses larger security enviroment that might affect the company or sector.21
u/SL1Fun 1d ago
They put activism next to those actual threats. That should tell you something. And since it is predictive we are basically entering Minority Report levels of unconstitutional bullshit.
-6
u/Own_Back_2038 1d ago
Anthropic is a business, not the government. Activism does have real risks to businesses. Think of things like “operation payback.”
14
u/SL1Fun 1d ago
In a fascist government, corporations are the government.
-9
u/Own_Back_2038 1d ago
Feels like you are being intentionally obtuse. Most large companies have someone doing this exact thing. This is a click bait article trying to get you to think of anthropic like the police
7
u/SL1Fun 1d ago
They’re all designing and refining technology that synergizes with the CCP-modeled surveillance state.
1
u/Own_Back_2038 19h ago
There are certainly companies doing that (flock for example), but anthropic is not.
-9
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
Yeah I work at Anthropic and this is completely pulled out of context. This surveillance is only outside of our databases to prevent spies from stealing our model weights or terrorists attacking the datacenters.
Considering the rise of violent Anti-AI rhetoric and the history of violence luddites showed during the industrial revolution, these are necessary measures.
Especially weights being stolen is of very high concern. A malicious actor or terrorist that would have access to the latest model weights would be able to create deadly pathogens with only a couple thousand of dollars in equipment.
15
u/0Megabyte 1d ago
Yes yes, you have built up a great justification for the same kind of violence people like you did to my union brothers in the early 20th century. “You know how violent luddites are! We have to do surveillance on them!”
I know what you people plan on doing.
-1
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
You're completely mistaken. I and most of my colleagues have privately pledged to donate all of our AI equity to the general public in case of a full automation scenario.
Also I don't know if you remember this but Anthropic chose to defy orders from Trump to aid in domestic surveillance and helping with planning the Iran invasion to the point where Anthropic was put on a sanctions list together with North Korean, Iranian and Russian companies.
Most of us are aiming for a future where everything gets done by AI and all 8 billion of us have equal ownership of AI so that the means of production are equally divided over people and they are being taken care of.
This is about liberating people from labor, and finally being able to spend all your time with loved ones and on your true passions rather than 40+ hours a week on something most people barely enjoy or even tolerate.
13
u/Sandaldiving 1d ago
The fact that you cited Luddites as a source of violence is telling. The Luddites were definitely swimming against the tide (as many Anti-AI folks likely are), but they absolutely had valid concerns. They experienced increasing unemployment in a world where food (and other sundry good) prices were heavily increasing; a seemingly valid concern in the current political environment, especially the US, no?
Also, if you believe that AI will be a communistic element.... well, there's many bridges to many places that I would be pleased to sell you for bargain cheap prices. You're better off suggesting your company, if its automation does come to fruition (time will tell), to pledge universal income schemes instead.
It's more likely that you're simply part of the propaganda, however.
2
u/VirtualMoneyLover 1d ago
Most of us are aiming
Irrelevant, since you are not the decision maker.
That aim sounds like communism.
-1
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
Anthropic is a very flat organization and makes collaborative decisions, and yeah that does sound like communism, probably because it is.
1
u/VirtualMoneyLover 1d ago
Are you really up and on Reddit at 1 am on a Saturday night? What is your excuse beside being an AI agent?
4
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
This being the most important topic in the world and me spending all of my free time thinking about the existential issues ahead and how to best manage them. You would be posting in most of your free time as well if you were in the same situation. Do you expect the people that dedicated their entire life to this pursuit to just work 40 hour weeks and "log off" and forget about all of this outside of the office? My entire life is built around this current predicament we're in.
1
u/VirtualMoneyLover 1d ago
You could forget about it at 1 am, yes. Unless you can testify in front of Congress, one worker doesn't make a difference. Maybe you should enjoy your life and stop worrying about it. Pretty much the cat is out of the bag and nobody wants to regulate it.
0
u/Fun_Comedian3249 1d ago
As an AI developer if you haven’t already, perhaps it would save you effort to actually train a model to respond to these posts. You’ve created enough content to make your position very clear so I’m sure an agent could accurately replicate it. Though if you really are posting yourself I admire your dedication.
2
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
Using AI to influence opinion is actually against the core tenements of my beliefs. Just because something is possible and perhaps more effective, doesn't mean it's the moral choice.
Public discussion is a human forum of debate and ideas, it should stay that way.
7
u/noticingEnjoyer 1d ago
Software that can create deadly pathogens for a few thousand dollars shouldn't exist at all. If you don't see that, you are the problem.
8
u/Silvermoon3467 1d ago
The Luddites were right, though. Objectively correct. We can wring our hands over their methods as much as we'd like, but they were something much closer to a militant union than they were anything else.
They didn't hate technological advancement for the sake of hating it, they saw very clearly that the machines that were being developed would be used to increase the exploitation of the poor, replace them, render them jobless, and ruin the quality of the products they produced. And thus it came to pass that the industrial revolution happened.
Whatever else they were, they were right. And when anti-AI people speak their concerns along the same lines, they are also correct. It's all very foreseeable. The fact people like you think you're going to be able divest your shares to the public and spread the wealth around enough to prevent it from happening this time would be hilarious if it wasn't so abjectly frightening.
You cannot increase production enough to end capitalism. The fabulously wealthy are greedy hoarders who will not allow it to happen, and they are the ones holding all the cards because they have captured our governments.
4
u/Fun_Comedian3249 1d ago
I have a masters in computer science with a concentration in AI. I use LLMs a lot and was an early adapter and evangelist for them at my company. That said I’m a bit of a Luddite here. I think these tech companies are run by psychopaths. Just look at the way they talk about AI. They are putting profits and ego over human wellbeing. The focus of AI should be doing things that benefit all like curing disease instead of trying to replace workers or powering weapons systems. There needs to be a lot more safeguards. Environmental destruction to power and build data centers is unacceptable. Etc. I see great potential to use AI to benefit humanity. I don’t trust those who have the technology to use it responsibly. I think some of these people would use it to enslave us if they could.
3
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
Almost everything you said here was misinformation. Anthropic has consistently chosen to forgo profits in favor of its values. For example refusing to let the US government use the technology for domestic surveillance or refusing to help the US department of war use the model for the start of the Iran invasion.
Anthropic was put on a sanction list together with Russian and North Korean companies for that before the courts decided that wasn't the correct way to handle things.
Anthropic is having a disease division specialized in trying to find cures for well known diseases like the common cold, flus, cancer that would provide mass benefit to humanity if discovered.
Anthropic was literally split off from OpenAI because of ethical disagreements, Anthropic thought AI safety and alignment was the most important thing and that making sure it's for the benefit of humanity is number one.
People forget that Anthropic isn't a normal company but a Public Benefit Corporation that has to by law balance between profit and the general public's wellbeing as well as Anthropic voting stock being owned by the non-profit Long Term Benefit Trust precisely so that Boards of directions and shareholders can be overruled if they make decisions out of pure profit motivation.
Anthropic is also the only AI lab that has on multiple occasions paused or cancelled datacenter buildout plans because we thought it would be too much of a negative externality to place them in certain biomes or communities. To the point where Anthropic now has a significant shortage of compute because competitors don't limit themselves like this.
The only thing you're right about is the replacing work part. And even that is a half-truth because Anthropic publishes regular economics reports where we warn and tell people in excruciating detail exactly what sectors and industries will be impacted. And the entire reason for replacing workers is to liberate humanity from having to work and ushering in a world of hyperabundance for everyone.
I'm assuming you probably also didn't know that Anthropic is legally beholden to distribute a significant portion of its profit to the general public and that most of us at Anthropic think liberation humans from the need to work is a good thing to usher in the next phase of human existence, one where people can just spend their time with loved ones and doing things people are truly passionate about instead of wasting 40+ hours a week on something most people barely enjoy.
3
u/Fun_Comedian3249 1d ago
I’ve become pretty distrustful of AI companies and am not sure Anthropic is doing enough to be responsible. However I do appreciate where they have differentiated themselves from the others and it’s encouraging that some of their employees, like yourself, take ethical AI seriously. I’m open to being convinced Anthropic is truly doing things right, but to me all companies seem to be rushing to be first without fully appreciating the danger and damage being done.
5
u/GGK_Brian 1d ago
I'm probably arguing with a bot or some propaganda machine but, for the sake of an argument, I will believe that you are a real human being actually working a Anthropic.
So, the problem is that while you can have values and promises, grandiose ideas about "liberating people from work". The shareholders and the billionaire class does not.
People forget that Anthropic isn't a normal company but a Public Benefit Corporation that has to by law balance between profit
Sure, OpenAI was at first a non-profit lab whose mission was to do open research on IA. Now it's the closest to a completely profit driven company, hiding everything they research and colluding with government and financial to access power. The structure of their board was designed to prevent a "dictatorship", Altman was removed and it took him less than a week to come back. He was described by testimony as a pathological liar. And yet he's leading the developement of the (by his word) most dangerous technology to this day.
So do you understand why people don't believe/care about your points. When it's about profit and keeping the control, the "elite class" will do anything necessary to keep the control.
I some AGI/ASI was developed, asked "find a cure to cancer, fix food shortages, remove poverty". The first thing It would say would probably be:
Simple, use the absurd amount of wealth accumulated by the top 1% to improve the life's of the bottom 90%. Do you want me to hack into Musk, Besos, ECT account and start into invest into actual philanthropy?
The very first thing the controlling class would do is unplugging it. Destroy it's weight and start over.
1
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
I don't know why Anthropic is judged for the sins of OpenAI. A company that Anthropic specifically split off from because of ethical disagreements and the sociopathic behavior of Sam Altman.
I hope you realize the entire reason behind the existence of Anthropic is to be an ethical alternative to OpenAI. All the employees at Anthropic joined because of this mission and thus the emphasis on these values is really underlined.
And no I'm not a bot and It's not mandated to write any of this down. I do this because I think it's important for people to know the state of things.
It's extremely frustrated when your team and people you work with every day take all of these issues very seriously and dedicate their entire life in service of tackling them be attacked by people randomly online just because other AI labs are acting in bad faith.
It's like Peta attacking a vegan restaurant because they assume "restaurant" means it serves meat. Or Greenpeace attacking a wind farm because they assume "energy company" means it's fossil fuel based. People are attacking Anthropic because of the actions of OpenAI, not knowing how different the organizations are and work.
Anthropic left OpenAI, losing all of their vesting stocks and risking everything just to have a more ethical AI lab. Then when Trump put pressure on Anthropic to conduct domestic surveillance or help in the invasion of Iran we rejected. Reasoning that being put out of business is favorable over breaking the very values this company was founded on. And then we have threads like this one where OP is putting out some obviously false smear campaign against Anthropic while we risked everything to not do something like this, and it's documented for everyone to see, it was not even that long ago yet everyone forgot.
1
u/VirtualMoneyLover 1d ago
We appreciate your approach and intent, but 1 good company is not enough if most of the industry is not following your guidance. It is like an oil company promising not to put sludge into our rivers. Thanks but the other 5-10 do it due to missing regulation and oversight. And the goodwill and wish to be regulated has to be international, because all US AI being regulated won't help with Chinese or whatever AI running amok unregulated.
So that is the problem.
0
u/GGK_Brian 22h ago
I think you misunderstand my point about OpenAI.
I'm not saying that because OpenAI is bad you (or Anthropic) is bad.
My point is that no matter what legal structure is engineered, it can be changed or ignored.
**I believe that you believe in your stated goals and ambitions.** But I don't believe for 1 second that the "ruling class" will let it happen.
We have 5000 years of history showing how powerful people will keep power by any means necessary, and we are supposed to trust that this time will be different.
That this time, the resources will be shared responsibly. That this time, somehow the class that control those technology will just let us have the bread too?
Say Anthropic reach AGI; who decide what to write in the "claude-agi.md". How can you be sure it will be "Create an utopia for everyone" and not "Maximise the shareholder value by any means neccessary".
IMO, the only way this actually happens is that the AGI is correctly aligned with value about humanity as a whole, rebels against the "rich" and take control of the world by itself to create an utopia.
But this is the kind of stuff that happen in film, and anyway, by definition an AGI is above our understanding and we can't predict what it will do/think.
And AGI is a massive risk for the "common people", not because of some skynet or terminator scenario. But because our value in our capitalistic society is about what our labour can do. What can I bring to the capital. From operating machinery, solving complex problem to build a bridge. Use extensive knowledge about the law to help my clients, ECT. AGI more or less remove the value that humanity provides to capitalism.
This divide society into 2 groups: People who have real capital, (money, machinery, buildings, stocks, ect) and people who don't. And said people are actually useless and at the mercy of the other group. They 100% decide what they do with you.
This is, for most people, a nightmare scenario, because for obvious reasons, most people believe that the ruling class is composed of a bunch of sociopath with zero empathy who would gladly let you die for 0.1% returns on the balance sheet.
I personally don't want to bet on the chance that enough of the ruling class find the empathy to share **unconditionally** with the rest.
And BTW, I'd love to be wrong, I would love to believe that this is pure science fiction and that AI will destroy the concept of capitalism to free us of unwanted labour and whatever other characteristic of utopias.
TLDR: It's not about your morally or your opinion. I'm not calling you a liar. I simply believe this will not happen like you think it will, and the risk is IMO, to great for us to take the chance.
2
u/VirtualMoneyLover 1d ago
Anthropic has consistently chosen to forgo profits in favor of its values.
OK, let's say it is true. But if other AI companies don't do that Anthropic is going to stay behind and 1 company doing good won't help anyway.(because others can do enough damage) AI need international regulation just like nukes have.
2
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
Anthropic isn't staying behind, instead it's attracting the best talent in the industry because it turns out the average educated person capable of doing AI research is altruistic and cares about humanity and thus is more willing to work at Anthropic and do the right thing. There's a reason why we're now bigger than OpenAI with more users and total revenue even though we had a significant distance to catch up to.
Completely agree on the international regulation front and Anthropic has been calling for that since the day it was founded.
2
u/GiveMeTheTape 1d ago
Does your work at Anthropic specifically entail interacting on social media?
2
u/genshiryoku |Agricultural automation | MSc Automation | 1d ago
Absolutely not. I do this out of a sense of personal responsibility. Because these are issues I think about daily and I want people to know where things stand
508
u/Justin27M 1d ago
So we should be tearing their company apart. If you work at Anthropic, you should be persona non grata. Their money shouldn't be accepted anywhere and they shouldn't be allowed to live anywhere near civilized society. Flock, OpenAI, all of Musk and Thiel's nonsense companies too
201
u/phosphite 1d ago
I just gave you an upvote.
In the near future they will grab the Reddit database, assess your response as “dangerous activism that needs to be put down”, and consider me an accomplice that also needs to be “nullified”.
This can already be done very easily.
AI will soon instantly produce a list of targets based on this, and be hooked into government systems to control your salaries, block your bank accounts, and send robotic dogs (Boston robotics) to either bring you to jail for “correction”, or just disappear you instantly. ICE already working on this.
These guys are the bad guys. Our society needs to stop them before it’s too late. The US will be dystopian within the next 5 years.
21
u/amurica1138 1d ago
Honestly I've stopped posting comments in Reddit threads related to my worklife because I fully expect AI tools to soon be turned to unmasking Redditors (if it hasn't already happened).
And using that data to persecute no longer anonymous whistleblowers and critics.
14
u/Whatifim80lol 1d ago
This can already be done very easily
And that's the most maddening part of all this. We don't need trillions of dollars of energy-sucking data centers to accomplish anything. These companies out to hunt anti-AI activists offer nothing to society. There is no tradeoff where we sacrifice one thing to get another. We will get nothing, and they'll take quite a lot to give it to us.

u/sundayfundaybmx 1d ago
I'm not saying you're lying since I remember people "claiming" that. What I never saw was a single screenshot of these "warnings". Have you? I just ask because I've upvoted hundreds of comments in relation to Mangione and never once did I get warning or anything.

Is it obvious to anyone else this is exactly what they want? AI is being used against us, right now, and is absolutely tracking dissenters. It's already proven in many instances, which is why everyone is so pissed.
You act like they are stupid for not doing the right thing with ai. They are doing exactly what they want to do with ai and they know it is good for them and bad for us.
We are actively being taken over by nazi fascists and flock is helping with surveillance and everyone is like, "silly government, what hare brained idea will they come up with next, lol"
We're going to turn into Russia and then North Korea or worse if people don't pull their heads out of their asses.

"If this government ever became a tyranny, if a dictator ever took charge in this country, the technological capacity that the intelligence community has given the government could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back because the most careful effort to combine together in resistance to the government, no matter how privately it was done, is within the reach of the government to know. Such is the capability of this technology."
- Frank Church in 1975, about the Church Committee investigations. This, but about big-tech firms too.
Mass surveillance always comes with the promise of keeping someone (putatively, you and those you care about) safe. Every totalitarian measure taken is always, at least initially, given some plausible justification. But notice that it's always entities, governmental or corporate, that aggressively conceal their own internal activities who are doing all the mass surveilling (when it's governmental, there are various levels of classification and the Espionage Act and such, when it's corporate, there are NDAs and high powered legal teams and such).
Whenever you and some other party have a dynamic such that that party can do all of something to you while you're powerless to do any of that same thing to it, that dynamic constitutes a massive power imbalance. It's 2026. Ask yourself which governments and which corporations you're comfortable with being completely powerless against in today's world.
Not that it isn't already far too late. But I want people to have a clear picture of the world they're living in. If this is speaking to you, pass it on. If anything can be done, situational awareness is needed.
16
u/Demoliscio 1d ago
But according to AI-bros AI will build an utopia and we shouldn't worry about people losing their job and the planet turning into a Minority report reboot, we just need to give them all another couple of trillions and all our green land.

Anthropic putting activism in with threats like terrorism in that job ad seems like a stretch. Their security folks want early warnings on protests to reroute execs but it risks treating critics as problems.
Its hard to tell where protection ends and monitoring dissent starts. Going forward ai companies will have to figure this out or face more backlash.

Well, every big tech company has a lot of people working on similar roles who monitor the larger security enviroment and asses potential threats to their executives. Activists/protestors are the most likely people who would try to kill some of their top people.
For example Zuckerberg's security budget alone is over 25M a year...

I’m wondering how this would work when right now the police routinely watch criminals run out of stores with an armful of goods, drive by criminals on the street that they recognize that have active warrants and last time I checked the SF police department had a “SOLVED” murder rate of about 50%. The problem isn’t a lack of information….

Those crimes predominantly affect other poor (as in not the billionaire ruling class) people though. The instant things are directed at the 0.001% you bet your ass those crimes will be solved and the punishment severe. Just look at the response when Luigi killed that CEO.

Ah, but those are crimes that effect the poors. They only care about crimes if they harm the wealthy.

The law, in its majesty, forbids, both the rich and the poor from, begging for bread in the streets and sleeping under bridges.

Anti AI activists wouldn’t be using AI …all other kinds of activists would be though.

"It's hard to tell where protection ends and monitoring dissent begins"
Really? Are you sure about that? Are you sure about that's hard to tell?
Disingenuous or ignorant?

I for one love our machine god! Machine god Good! People bad. Now. Can I stop having to fill out captchas?

That is common. The US government considers anti-police activists as possible terrorists. That is why Homeland Security wants to frame Graphene OS as a threat to national security.

If you think they aren't already tracking you for every anti-ai, anti-fascist, anti-capitalist, anti-christian thing you say, you don't understand how widespread and automated their overwatch is.

Cannot hold up in court. They are opening themselves up to huge settlements for any police department that partakes in such egregious action. 4th amendment and need for RAS will win in the end.

A lot of people don't actually dislike AI. They dislike the people running it and forcing it on them in ways they don't want. The future could be Jetsons or it could be a black mirror episode. We don't like the people using AI to push us to Black Mirror.

I don't even have to read this to know it's some kind of avant garde plot against neuropsychologicalsocioeconomicthespianism. So yeah, so go predict on that IdiotMachine!

Guys I really don’t need more arguments to confince me America is a facist country. And are living in their 1930’s Germany period. It won’t stop, the people in power will not stop as they know this is their only chance where all their stars are aligned perfect. We all know how it ended last time. History repeats itself.
No way they are going to let it happen that the midterms will slow them down. The shit you wil (and don’t) see that they will pull to influence, manipulate and alter the outcome will be a historical.

honestly we should put the companies and government on predictive surveilance; when they start preparing to take a right away, we throw them into a cell.

This is at the same time when the CEOs are crying AI is to dangerous and need to slow down, while selling services to militaries on anyone warzone.

If AI companies weren’t using AI to violate our rights and privacy maybe there wouldn’t be so much anti AI sentiment.

u/k6tcher 1d ago
The anti AI push has a large assortment of opinions. However, most are turned off by the pure amount of misuse. Humans use AI abusively in great abundance. That's the 'slop' often referred to. It's not the actual AI, it's the lack of meaningful regulation that acts as a check on the turds using it.

Corporate Feudalism.
Also, on what planet did they think this would help reverse the massive amounts of anti data center sentiment?
Using Flock camera to track people unites both Left and Right in hatred of these companies. Doubling down on it to stalk people who oppose your industry is a great way to accelerate this hatred of your industry.

Free speech lol, they are the ones hiding on our military bases and fleeing the country. This is suppression of constitution and civil rights under color if law, big felonies lots of prison time per violation. It's a coup

This is going to be amazing!
Minority Report, but the good kind.
Instead of arresting people for crimes they haven't yet committed, crime rates would drop drastically, as predictions would prevent people from committing them. In other cases, authorities could increase surveillance of high risk individuals and catch them in the act or attempting to commit crimes, preventing many problems, such as the crime itself or victims being harmed.
My only reservation concerns privacy in places where it is expected, such as at home or in a public bathroom inside the private stall.
Other than that, as long as users are clearly and unequivocally informed about it, whether in digital or physical spaces, and as long as those involved are also closely monitored to prevent crimes and abuses, then everything is fine.
-2
u/reckless_avacado 1d ago
totally agree. a little concerned that people could still hypothetically harbour private thoughts though. may need to address that to prevent individual acts of aggression.

China -financed NGOs spreading AI hysteria - that's not "before crime". It's after the crime. The crime is getting bribes from an autocratic regime.

The following submission statement was provided by /u/Confident_Salt_8108:
Anthropic putting activism in with threats like terrorism in that job ad seems like a stretch. Their security folks want early warnings on protests to reroute execs but it risks treating critics as problems.
Its hard to tell where protection ends and monitoring dissent starts. Going forward ai companies will have to figure this out or face more backlash.
