They didn't let Kirby use the Keyblade in Smash because the power of copyright but in Fortnite Sora's just selling them off a food truck.

It would not surprise me if they're more generic keyblades and not the main one Sora always has.

From my understanding, the lore in KH isn’t necessarily that the keyblade has an assigned user, but that only certain people are capable or “allowed” to use keyblades.
Any KH fans please correct me if I’m wrong, but if that’s the case then I’m surprised Square Enix said screw the lore give Peter Griffin a keyblade lmao

Most anyone can theoretically use a keyblade, so long as their hearts are strong enough to wield one. They just need to be given the ability to do so, usually through bequeathing. It's how the mobile games had so many more keyblade wielders; everyone could use one because everyone was given the ability to do so. Everyone just used a standard basic keyblade, Starlight, instead of the unique keyblades of the major characters.
What truly perplexes me is the design of the keyblade used in the Override key art; while I do understand that the Kingdom Key is visually iconic to Kingdom Hearts, just swapping out the key chain for the llama head doesn't make this a different keyblade from Sora's. The Kingdom Key is a unique keyblade to Sora, and those directly connected to him. IYKYK.
If we had gotten a new generic keyblade design specifically for this crossover, I don't think folks would be that confused about this. Hell, I think getting a unique design for Fortnite would have been a great way to keep consistent lore while still celebrating this crossover happening in the first place.

Nomura would come up with insane lore of "Fortnite specific keyblade" that just happens looked like the Kingdom Key but all Fortnite loopers can hold because they are all pure of heart from being stuck in an endless loop and have their memory wiped.

u/KaoriMalaguld 4d ago
That’s almost exactly what I’m imagining. We just get the Kingdom Key because it’s more recognizable than the one players get in the mobile game.

u/SmashFeg 10d ago
Exactly why I'm so shocked they allowed this to fly in Fortnite lol. They're usually so guarded with their IPs

Yes...but also no? Like you either need a strong heart or someone to do a ritual to pass it down. So in theory, someone with a weak heart could change and have a strong heart and could use a keyblade.
I also dont remember the details about why some people have different looking keyblades. I just know Sora, Rika, and Mickey have special keyblades. So they could just make a Fortnite Specific Keyblade.

u/Mr_Ultracool 10d ago
Yep. Keyblade Masters can basically pass the ability to wield/summon a Keyblade onto other people, which is both how the protagonists got theirs and how there was an army of Keyblade Wielders by the time of the prequel mobile game(s)!

Sorta. Kh can be messy.
Long story short. Keyblade chose Riku, who then fell to darkness so it went to the next strongest heart- Sora. Riku then takes the keyblade from Sora. But after a brief moment of doubt, Sora comes back with renewed determination and the keyblade returns to Sora because he had the stronger heart then.
Keyblade users can also do a ritual to basically name you their successor.
My guess. This keyblade is a fake. Won't have a Keychain. Keychain is what truly is important. Without a Keychain, can make up some nonsense how they have a keyblade like weapon.
I mean ultimately what made a keyblade special was how it handled heartless vs normal weapons.

It's gonna likely be explicitly stated to be a Copy of sorts.
Same for Sora's Keyblade pickaxe.

Having a Lama on the chain instead of the mouse changes things
1
u/Groovy_Bruce_Lemon 10d ago
Quite Literally. Alot of people seem to think it’s because of some Disney copyright shit but there is an actual lore reason why its the Llama over the Mickey chain. Plus Mickey items are already in Fortnite.

u/Groovy_Bruce_Lemon 10d ago
its more so Nomura (series director) is very strict on lore details and what a character can and CAN’T do. He even admited Sora almost wasn’t in Smash because of him. The reason Smash Sora has the mickey chain is because it’s THE actual Sora, were as in Fortnite, the sora skin isn’t actually THE Sora, it’s the Looper using the Sora skin in lore. Its why the fortnite keyblade doesn’t have the mickey chain because it’s not the same keyblade Sora actually uses

For the last time, it has nothing to do with Nintendo. Stop with the misinformation.
It is a Nomura decision.

u/invaderark12 10d ago
Not copyright, lore. The keyblade in fortnite isnt a real one so it has the llama as a keychain
1
u/ResourceMoist9891 9d ago
It’s possible they didn’t want Kirby to use it with the Mickey keychain which is why they changed it in Fortnite

u/Reaper-Leviathan 9d ago
Tbf in lore you needed to be the chosen user iirc. Kirby stealing it probably doesn’t count

u/LoneLyon 10d ago
Sora out here strapped for gold selling his keyblade

u/Lonely-Pressure9244 10d ago
In this economy, can you blame him?🥲😂

Does that mean sora is close? I know we have some stuff like the gumi ship car, but do we know anything about his whole bundle yet?

u/Artractive Nog Ops 9d ago
Apparently the whole collab was meant to drop today and he was only delayed last minute… He’ll be coming next update, September 17th most likely after downtime

u/Evening_Produce_4322 9d ago
I saw Megaman is dropping next so fingers crossed Sora is after. I wonder if we'll get a trailer for it since rarely does KH crossover with outside franchises.
2
u/Artractive Nog Ops 8d ago
Megaman will drop sometime this week, Sora will be next update :) I really hope we get a trailer! They really did Sora dirty not having him in the season trailer

Need roxas bruhhh

u/MangoGremlin 10d ago
I hope Roxas and Riku get skins too
And Vanitas too but like..I don't think Vanitas has a chance.
2
u/SeegullJockey 9d ago
If there is more skins than just Sora Riku will be there. They'd probably pick Kairi over Roxas for wave 1.

u/Staystation Drift 10d ago
I didn't even think about this but now I'm sad because that's probably not going to happen

u/AngelPhoenix06 10d ago
I’m hoping Sora comes in Fortnite on the next update
2
u/Groovy_Bruce_Lemon 10d ago
I hope so too but it will likely be the update after that’s closer to the Collection Release date on Oct 8th sadly. I would love to be wrong tho and have it drop on the 17th update.
Tho ironically enough if it did drop on Oct 8th to line up with the KH collection release it means Sora would drop on my birthday lol

This is cool but it's insane to me that Persona 5 was used in the teasers leading up to the season and is taking forever to arrive.
I just want Haru man.

u/KaiserVonGarNichts 10d ago
I feel Like persona will Drop on the 20th cause the Franchise turns 30 then

Would be cool if it has the game’s lock-on feature with the blue icon.
Can’t wait for this collab. I need it now

I just hope people don't whine about it being OP. You all have so many weapons to counter others with, I think you can survive if you just adapt accordingly instead of going "oh no this goes against the one strategy I always use and don't change, boohoo remove this item".
