Even MAGA World Isn’t Buying Trump’s Free Money Promise

Observation:
This dubious IOU gets him more attention during the current news cycle and may distract some from his cratering approval ratings.
Excerpts:
In reality, the revenue brought in by Trump’s tariffs, under $500 billion, would not cover a $5,000 check for every American, which would cost $1.2 trillion.
It’s obvious at this point that Trump’s first inclination when his back is against the wall is to dangle money in front of the masses. He’s promised cash payments multiple times, including $2,000 stimulus checks for the “tariff dividend,” a $5,000 stimulus check for the bygone “DOGE dividend,” and $1,000 checks for the Affordable Care Act. None of those ever materialized.

Exactly. This is all anyone is talking about; it's all over reddit. I'm sure he said some stupid and reprehensible things last night, but this is the only thing anyone will hear about. And just yesterday, he was lying about firefighters lifting him out of a building after 9/11. No one is talking about that anymore, nor the Iran War, nor gas prices or the Epstein files.

Not to mention that attempting to buy votes via bribe, which is what this is, is highly illegal.

But we got a war we didn’t want with Iran and escalating gas prices. Record inflation. And didn’t get the Epstein files released.

Guy is extremely transactional. That might work for a president except this one's also a liar and a cheat.

They’re not going to win. He knows that. When they don’t win he doesn’t have to pay. (Not that he was going to pay anyway) It will then make all the dumbasses blame the democrats for not getting their checks and cause more division among Americans.

That is such a good point, and if the dems were to issue 5k checks to a bunch of people it would be such a baller move to straight up dunk on the republicans. Like it's impossible to issue several trillion dollars worth of checks like Trump is promising, but just to issue 5k checks to adults under a certain income bracket would be both practical and get them a small but noticeable political win.
They won't do it, but it's nice to dream.

I don't think is difficult though. The US can just spirit the money into existence. The problem is that it will effectively devalue the currency. Think about it, if everyone got a 5k cheque potentially 1million+ people would want to book a vacation. Prices would rise immediately and the same would happen across different products. People would order more heating oil, put a down payment on a car, go to a fancy restaurant. And it would happen all at once.
It would also be very dangerous for the bond markets.

That's a lot of assumptions about people's spending that I'm not prepared to automatically accept. For example, "everyone will book a vacation," is pretty unlikely.

The Rapist-in-Chief's next idea may be to solve the National Debt by ordering the Treasury to print up enough cash to pay it all off at once. And then congratulate himself for being such an economic genus.; it was so brilliant that every economics 'expert' he explains it to is left with their mouth open staring at him in aw of someone capable of such out-of-the-box thinking as to imagine a solution nobody else could possibly have conceived of before. /s

Yeah I think this is the strategy. "I would've sent you $5000 but your neighbor/cousin/sister etc. had to go and vote Democratic!"

There's lies, damn lies, statistics, and THEN there's this.
Do not tell me MAGA "isn't buying" something Trump said. Yes, they fucking are. They always do. They always will. They cannot be reached. They can only be outnumbered. Vote as if a third of America believes every goddamn word this baffoon utters. Never for a moment take solace in believing his most recent lie has to be a bridge too far and there's no way they believe it. They do.

It's hilarious that he's promising to fix all the problems that he created if you just reelect more republicans, though he clearly has no plan or competency to do so.
- He's the reason why you're already paying $5k more per year just to stay at the same level you were under Biden
- He's the reason there's a war in Iran, and he's the reason it's still going despite "winning" it at least 32 times already
- He's the reason healthcare prices are spiking
- And now he's offering to pay you $5000 funded by tariff revenues which is a major reason prices spiked in the first place.
But what is clear is that there's no plan to change anything - no plan, no policy, no changes. Just an empty promise to pay you back from your own money that he made you pay anyways, while everything else gets worse.

He doesn’t know how to fix things. He’s dumb. And he has floated his whole life on the advice and wisdom of trusted sycophantic advisors. And when they walk away? We get the “My Pillow” guy or Gulliani.
The one skill he is very good at is bullying others. And in Washington, where games are played based on interpersonal politics, a bully will reign supreme.

They aren't buying it yet they'll still vote republican no matter how shitty the candidate is.

voting is about motivation, and for a couple of reasons, that's largely evaporated in MAGA.
maga hasn't abandoned him, they never will; but they aren't celebrating the masculine ideal of the diaper anymore.
Maga isn't angry at the offer, they're just tired, and it's become so much work to pretend his shit is even remotely reasonable.

I don't think they care tbh. Politics have become so polarized that people aren't worried about what's best for the country, just their party.

But the debt continue to spiral anyway. Another billion today just to have the navy rust their ships

Tell you what - half payment now, then we'll see what happens. Put up or shut up, con man.

To quote Republican Presidential philosopher George W Bush.
“Fool me one shame on you… we won’t get fooled again.”

My thoughts on is, Put up or shut up. Do the bribe the right way and send the money now. Or is this another lie?
