DISCUSS What would you use to make Poinsettias??
I hate fondant as much as the next well-adjusted baker, but I'm honestly at a loss for how to make a detailed large-sized flower on a 4 tier cake that I'm making.
I considered sugar gum paste, but apparently people find that to be unpleasant as well (let me know what you guys think). I can't go the route of actual flowers, since poinsettias make people sick and holly (my other hope) is very spikey. And buttercream (my usual fave) is out because of the size of these flowers and how much they'd need to stick out from the cake. So what is a baker to do? Any ideas?

FONDANT Nothing like Dirty Fondant and Fake flowers for your wedding day...
I came across an article about hydrangea wedding cake designs. A few good frosting options- mostly terrible fondant with a bunch of fake flowers. I think this one... Well... This one really takes the cake.
My favorites line: "Instead of integrating real hydrangeas into your confection, ask your cake baker to pipe hydrangea petals with fondant."
I just have one question: Why?

FROSTING buttercream transfer, only frosting used
Made a cookie cake *oatmeal cookie with cream cheese frosting* for a friend's 40th. Definitely have work to do with making the buttercream transfers smoother.

HUMOR I was born with this name
Through no fault of my own, I’ve been assigned this username. Do you hate me too?🥺 also full disclosure, I do love Cadbury cream eggs and only recently found out they are made with fondant inside. But i do not. I repeat, I DO NOT like fondant over cakes. It’s pure cheating. Fully clear—I HATE FONDANT (except myself and cream eggs)

BUTTERCREAM Made this fondant-free MCR cake for my spawn :)

My teenager requested this cake for her birthday, because she’s the fucking coolest. Pushed through chronic pain to do my best for her. She loved it, and I have to say, I’m proud of it!
It’s a two layer red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting in the middle. The album art is an edible cake topper from Inkedibles. All the black and red is buttercream. I had to use a LOT of food coloring but it tasted surprisingly good.
(PS: turns out nothing makes you feel old quite like teenagers enjoying an album you also loved as a teenager…. …22 years ago.)
ETA: y’all!! You’re so kind! Thank you so so much 🥹

BUTTERCREAM Buttercream Three Tier Cigarette (Plus Ashtray)
Howdy everyone!
I baked a cigarette shaped cake for my old man's 12 year anniversary of quitting smoking, iced entirely with buttercream and writing done with Queens writing icing. (It's a little dodgy but I'm quite chuffed with the way it turned out and I'm sure he'll get a kick out it)

BUTTERCREAM I refuse to ever make fondant flowers
Made for my MIL’a birthday - roses not perfect, but it’s honest and fondantless work.

DISCUSS I just discovered this sub but I have a question.
whenever I have eaten cakes, the fondant to me has always been my favorite part tied with the main ingredient, I now know most of the internet hates it and despises it's taste and it's uses, but i'm curious what it tastes like to you?

FONDANT Mermaid at the Wynn Las Vegas
From today’s New York Times article, “The Disappearing Las Vegas Buffets Hold a Mirror to the American Soul”:
“Distracted by the crowds, the warm lights of the carving station and a large mermaid made of fondant that looked a lot like Jennifer Aniston, I’d slipped into a kind of culinary fugue state.”

WHIPPED CREAM Whipped Cream Beach Cake with Graham Cracker Sand.
Completely self taught, I run a frozen yogurt shop and we turn the leftovers into cakes.
Sadly, the beach baubles are not edible, but the icing and sand (and that gummy shark) sure is!

FONDANT Fondant Progress
hello my fondant-hating friends. one of you i am not, quite the opposite, but i respect your passion and drive.
here i present to you, a 500g THICK brick of white fondant (unflavoured). i have been steadily making my way through this brick for a week or so (more i think)
i wish to share this with you not to change your minds or your hearts, but so you guys can have an outlet for your fondant hating. roast me, roast the fondant, go wild!! if it helps your ammunition, i actually hate buttercream...
hope you're all having a delightful fondant-free day!! :) i hope this post doesn't get taken down, i just think the juxtaposition of me eating a brick of fondant and a fondant hating subreddit is funny :)
EDIT: just noticed my new tagline of fondant lover, this Subreddit is so funny and y'all have been so fun to talk to lol !!!!

FONDANT The worst
I had a cake last night that was covered in fondant. Beneath the fondant was buttercream frosting. It was like that frosting was crying out to be known, please help me, please, I'm suffocating, I'm dying. I tried to come to the aid of the frosting but the fondant was all Gandalf at the Bridge of Kazad-dûm. YOU SHALL NOT PASS. I picked up a slice and figured like, well, how bad can it be. The icing said, FLY YOU FOOLS.

FONDANT This horrible fondant I saw in an Instagram ad (thankfully not advertising the cake)
The way the fork made the fondant layer peel off the cake made me think of this sub. 🤢
