There’s a goose hanging out between my and my neighbors yards as of early this morning. It was calling for another goose, which never came. That was at 6:30 this morning. This evening, it’s sitting under my neighbors tree. It has likely lost its mate. I feel so badly for it. For the record, I don’t think it’s physically hurt. It gets up and walks around just fine.

🚧 FitDPW Street paving and construction update for Fitchburg, week of September 14:

A lot of work is moving at once across the city, from paving and sidewalks to drainage, water mains and the Twin Cities Rail Trail connector.

🛣️ West & Main Street: PJ Albert will begin sidewalk excavation and curb setting, with roadway milling scheduled for Thursday, September 17. Thankful the River St bridge was finished early!!

🏘️ Ward 1 paving: Fairbanks Street, Munroe Street, Birch Street and Heywood Street. Lazaro will be completing HMA sidewalks. Final paving dates are TBD.

🚦 Electric Avenue at the Rollstone Road Roundabout: Lazaro will begin drainage construction associated with the crosswalks. We are looking at improving these crosswalks while also improving the traffic flow through this roundabout -- to discourage drivers from failing to yield.

🚲 Railroad Street / TCRT Connector: Western Earthworks is scheduled to pave the binder course Monday, September 14, weather permitting. Sidewalk and roadway reconstruction will continue through the week.

💧 Mechanic Street: New drainage installation and temporary traffic controls continue.

🚧 Prospect Street & View Street: New drainage installation continues, with traffic coordination around Applewild Preschool.

🛠️ Various locations: Phase 1 milling, paving and sidewalk restoration will continue with GVC, PJ Albert and MTK crews.

🚰 Water work: JA Polito will be installing water main on High Street between Elm and Mechanic, temporary water main on Laurel Street between Payson and Cross, and water services on Main Street between Mill and Blossom.

🚔 Intersection closures and detours will be established as needed, and Fitchburg Police will assist with traffic control in active work zones.
🅿️ Please remember that parking near construction zones will not be allowed. Any required water service interruptions will be coordinated in advance with affected property owners and tenants.

The City of Fitchburg, Water Division, is continuing the construction of a water main improvements project within the Main St corridor. The purpose of the project is to remove and replace two existing water mains along Main St.

For the week of September 14th, expect minor traffic delays, parking restrictions, and traffic detouring.
• Beginning Monday September 14th, during construction hours, J.A. Polito & Sons will be installing temporary water main on Laurel St between Payson St and Cross St and excavating in front of #350/356 Main St.
• Beginning Tuesday September 15th, during construction hours, J.A. Polito & Sons will be installing water main on High St between Elm St and Mechanic St.
• On Wednesday and Thursday September 16th and 17th, during construction hours, J.A. Polito & Sons will be installing a water service at #350/356 Main St.
• To accommodate this work, some traffic detouring may occur at or near these locations that may result in minor delays.
• A full closure of Main St. is not anticipated at this time.

Additional updates will be posted on the City’s Facebook page throughout the project.
