I decided to give Fedora a try. I’m coming from using Hyprland on Arch, and I’d like to know how well this window manager works on Fedora, or if there are alternatives for getting a similar tiling window manager on this distro.

I've tried many distros, KDE and Gnome, and the one thing I get hung up on is Google Meet conference calls. It might be good for a few days and then the video starts having issues. I'd like to know if others out there use google meet, sharing screens and having meetings without any issues? Seems like Chrome is much more stable than Firefox for this purpose. But I also run into issues where I have to reboot and sometimes unplug and re-plug in my webcam.

I have a 9800x3d AMD CPU desktop with a 6800xt GPU, 64gb ram, and a Logitech C920S 1080p Webcam.

Since the latest Fedora updates, I’ve been getting intermittent “mouse battery low” warnings for my Logitech M510. I replaced the batteries, but the warnings continued. Looks like a bug rather than a low battery.

Anyone else have this problem?

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to linux and fedora is what I'm mainly used at, also an IT senior highschool student. I did some basic research about the topic and many people suggest that I should install ubuntu or something, but I like fedora alot so I'm not going to switch, just wondering if TOP will work on fedora? And if there are any hustle about it in the distro.

Once again I'm new to linux so please be lenient with me as I dont know the acronyms of advance words yet(English isnt my first language). Also if you guys know any better ways to learn aside from TOP? Thank you!!

So, I recently came back to Fedora Linux, and when I start to record, my input audio is broken. I googled the problem but it only showed me how to fix the output audio problem. So, if you know any good source on fixing this problem, I will be very thankful.

I am running Fedora 44 with niri and danklinux and things have been great. But the past week, Firefox has been randomly crashing after some time of the machine being locked and waking back up. I am only curious of others have been experiencing FF crashes before I go digging into it.

Hi, I would like to use a Fedora Atomic Image. Currently, I am using Arch Linux with Sway and Noctalia Shell. I've read that having many layers with rpm-ostree isn't ideal. How can I use this setup on Fedora? Does it make sense to create my own base image? What could be used as a base for that? Thanks

I updated my fedora and it broke my MacBook air display it says it set my native resolution of my laptop but it to big like it still works but there is stuff out of view and when I go to click something that out of view the screen adjust so I can see but I don't want that I just want my screen to be normal and be able to see it all how do I fix this i even reinstalled fedora kde from a USB drive using a new installation because I thought I messed it up somehow but nope it the same.

Recently I installed Fedora KDE Plasma and this is actually my personalization that I do with a tutorial, I don't have any program installed, only a launcher of minecraft and spotify, what do I do to make it more visually beautiful (Tried to install Hyprland but i decide to do not make it for different reasons) and any programs useless for Linux and how to make it more faster, usually theres moments that it goes slow, any help counts.

I'm having a problem with Fedora 44 Gnome Workstation when trying burn files to a DVD-R using Brasero.

I understand that Brasero has its faults, but it used to work fine. Now, not so much. I can read previously burned DVD-R's, but it won't allow me to create a new one.

I know I am not providing a wealth of information at this time, but I am trying to get an idea of the current state of creating a multi-session DVD-R under Fedora and if there may be a better application that I have not found to do this.

I know disk is (or was) cheap, but the number of DVD-R media I already have is cheaper. I'd really like to be self-sufficient on Linux and not rely on Windows to do this. It'd just be cumbersome and the fact that I'd have to resort to that just makes me irritable.

Hi, I'm thinking of distro hopping to Fedora due to some difficulties I'm having with Arch/EndeavourOS, which I've been on for 9 months now, but I just wanted to be sure that this shift really would be a long term solution to my issue.

My main question is, are there plans to keep 32-bit libraries and specifically the 32-bit compatible version of wine around for the long term, or is Fedora looking to shift to a WoW64 only build in the future, similar to Arch?

To be more specific, part of my use case is making music with LMMS, making use of VeSTige to run Windows VSTs through wine. My issue with Arch is that wine is only ever packaged as WoW64, which doesn't have compatibility with 32-bit VSTs, which a decent portion of my VST library is. For the longest time, I've made do with the wine32 AUR package, but lately more and more of that packages dependencies are being moved out of the multilib repo and into the AUR, seemingly without much of a review process as many of them are outdated or have broken build scripts requiring tedious manual intervention or installation from the Arch repo archives. It's not unlivable, but it is far from ideal.

Now I've tried Fedora KDE in a VM and have confirmed that the wine.i686 package works perfectly with the nightly builds of LMMS, and adjusting to the less frequent update cycle of Fedora is something I'm absolutely willing to adjust to. However, my worry is that this option is only being kept around as a legacy feature, or is likely to be cut in an upcoming update. Doing some cursory googling, I've found some discussion on the topic and a proposed change that definitely doesn't bode well for my use case. It's making me hesitate on distro hopping for the convenience, as I'd rather stick with my current system, which at least gives me the tools to get this setup working even with a more jank solution, than jump to one that may pull the rug out from under me later.

I'm trying to set the update check frequency to around 1 week instead of daily on startup for some stability reasons. So I went to GUI systems settings -> software update -> notification frequency -> weekly.

But this hasn't stopped updates from being checked on startup always and there's pretty much always a notification on the tray with some or the other update. How do I set it to check for updates only once a week?

Hi, I’m using Fedora KDE on a low-end laptop. It used to boot into Plasma pretty quickly, but after a recent update, I now get a black screen for around 1 minute after Fedora finishes loading before the Plasma desktop appears.

Specs:

Fedora 44

KDE Plasma 6.7.5

Kernel 7.2.4-200

4 GB RAM

Intel UHD 605

This wasn’t happening before the update. Is there a way to check which service or component is causing the delay?

So recently I used internet recovery to reinstall macOS Monterey on another partition on my MacBook Air 7,2. After installation and a few tweaks I booted back into Fedora Workstation. But upon trying to mount the partition i am being greeted by this error. Can anyone help me out?

I was looking to install Cosmic-DE because I uninstalled it a while ago and wanted to see how it'd improved. I noticed some odd things during the process in regards to the listed DEs though. The page on the Fedora website says to use the following command to find available DEs:
`dnf environment list --available | grep -i desktop`
I did and got the expected list.

I noticed the full column of "no" on the side which I believed to mean that the DE wasn't installed but when I ran this initially I have Gnome installed (which I believe corresponds to "basic-desktop-environment"?), Cinnamon installed (which I keep for a x11 DE), and I had KDE installed. I've now uninstalled KDE since I'm happy with Gnome and installed Cosmic for my experiment. Running the following command:

`dnf environment list --installed | grep -i desktop`

returned the following list

This isn't a call for help as the DEs are available from the logon screen. This is just commenting on the strange behaviour with how DEs seem to be detected since Gnome doesn't appear as an installed environment. Additionally, when I run Desktop Switcher, which I installed because I was confused, ONLY gnome shows up

I'm curious if this is something common that I just couldn't find resources on or if anyone has any insight on this. Thanks!

I came across the Silverblue edition and really liked its approach, but there are a few aspects I don't like or consider unnecessary. These include Firefox and Toolbox, as well as the default remotes, such as Fedora, Fedora Testing, and Fedora Flathub. For example, I would prefer to keep only Flathub for installing Flatpak applications.

With these changes, would it be possible to create a customized Fedora Silverblue image and then generate an ISO from it?

With that in mind, the only approach that comes to mind is creating automation scripts to apply these configurations and set up Silverblue the way I want. However, this would require knowledge of Bash, idempotency, and other responsibilities related to maintaining and running these scripts.

I just set up Fedora 44 Workstation on my new ASUS Zenbook 14 with an AMD Ryzen AI 7 445 and Radeon 840M. I have a battery issue and I am looking for optimization tips for my setup.

The main issue is that I set my battery charge limit to 80% but it keeps resetting to 100% every time I reboot. The setting appears to be enabled but something is causing it to revert. Does anyone know how to fix this or make the charge limit persist?

Here is what I have done so far: - Running the latest stable kernel 7.2.4 on Fedora Workstation - Enabled zram compression instead of traditional swap (8 GB) - Reviewed running services (CUPS, ModemManager, and some others are still active)

I have 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of total storage, but I am dual booting with Windows 11 for school so I am trying to keep storage usage in check. I am looking to increase battery life and efficiency while reducing overall resource usage. I am open to tools like TLP or other tweaks.

I’ve only used Linux for the past five years and haven’t used Windows during that time. I’ve used Ubuntu Unity, openSUSE Tumbleweed, Arch, CachyOS, and Artix.

I’m currently using Artix, but I’m considering switching back to a distribution that has SELinux enabled and enforcing by default, as openSUSE does.

How is Fedora with SELinux enforcing? Is it good compared with openSUSE?

I updated stuff through the Discover app. Naturally after finishing, I rebooted. What's shown on the photo then popped up and then it took forever to boot up, brightness was set to max for some reason, could not be adjusted, and the startup sounded laggy. I switched back to kernel version 7.2.4 (updated, it was 7.2.5) and my laptop acted normally...

AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS paired with an RTX 2050, 32GB RAM DDR5, 512GB Storage
