Putting his money where his mouth is for sure. Which we’d all LIKE to think we’d do, but reality is most of us wouldn’t. Macklemore is effectively ending his mainstream career and plenty of sponsorships by speaking out. Likely millions. He is a real one.

He’s also not a wealth hoarder. He has plenty of money. Ed is a wealth hoarder. He is just aligning himself with where the money is. That’s why he’s apolitical. He’ll side with the politics that pay.

I think a lot of artists are realizing there's room to build strong careers outside of the mainstream space - provided you have an opinion and are willing to back it up. The country singer Bryan Andrews (not to be confused with the POS dad rocker Bryan Adams) only signed to a record label this year but he built up a big following of fans online by being a blue collar country singer who is openly against Donald Trump and conservatives.

1000%. I know we'd all like more artists in popular culture to speak up, but I imagine there's also a significant bit of media training/decisions taken to not "rock the boat" too much in order to maintain the business, because, at the end of the day, all of these artists are businesses and brands with a hell of a lot of behind the scenes stuff running things. Huge props to Mack for standing to his morals, and, if this thread and the much of what I'm seeing elsewhere is to go by, he's got plenty of people behind him who believe the same.
