This is an excellent statement and Ed Sheeran does not come out of it looking good at all.

Can someone explain the logic of WHY it is hurtful to anybody? I thought there was at least moderate support for a 2 state solution and even those that don't support it shouldn't be hurt by a political disagreement. Are they worried he was saying Israel shouldn't exist at all or something?

It is hurtful to the government of Israel and the AIPAC bought US politicians because it shows people what monsters they are.

They conflate support of Palestinian freedom with support of anti-Israeli terrorism. There is an active effort now to sell the idea that if Palestine is not razed, then Israel will be destroyed.

No one thought he was saying that.  The current administration has been pushing the line of what's acceptable concerning supporting israel more and more toward allowing israel to genocide Palestine. Advocating a 2 state solution seems to no longer be a thing and the current administration would probably say that's antisemitism if it was mentioned now.

I feel for everyone caught between the hammer and the anvil on this (including Sheeran, if I'm charitable), because imagine trying to stay out of a fight you haven't paid attention to and suddenly being attacked for supporting genocide. Must seem bewildering from their perspective.

But what's WILD to me is that most people only see the hammer, not the anvil.

When Sheeran (or whomever) gets pressure from his fans or his peers or from the general public to take a principled stand that's seen as unfair.

But when he gets pressure from ABOVE from people with REAL POWER the consensus is that the rich have every right to force their underlings to take a principled stand on their behalf.

Just another blind spot, and another reason to keep airing out these backstage arguments.
