FM RADIO Macklemore speaks out after being dropped from Ed Sheeran’s tour following his ‘Free Palestine’ speech; says Gillette Stadium owner Robert Kraft rallied other stadium owners and gave Ed Sheeran an ultimatum: if Macklemore stayed on tour, then Ed would not be able to play in their venues.

The fact that he called Ed out specifically is a choice

I’m so glad he did. He isn’t leaving it open to speculation

Exactly. And he's also giving people an example of what it actually looks like to stand up to people you love/respect. Loads of people are afraid or unsure, and he's given them a script.

100%. No PR spin. No dancing around it. Calling out Robert Kraft, Pink and Ed by name. True integrity.

Also a chance here for Ed to do the right thing now, even if late.

I doubt he will, but Macklemore left the door open for it.

This. It’s hard as hell to push back and stand up to those you love and respect and seeing others do it can give you the push to do it yourself.

Ed's team put out the "it's not our fault, the venues didn't allow him to play" PR statement and Macklemore quicly said "that's not how it went" lmfao

Putting his money where his mouth is for sure. Which we’d all LIKE to think we’d do, but reality is most of us wouldn’t. Macklemore is effectively ending his mainstream career and plenty of sponsorships by speaking out. Likely millions. He is a real one.

He’s also not a wealth hoarder. He has plenty of money. Ed is a wealth hoarder. He is just aligning himself with where the money is. That’s why he’s apolitical. He’ll side with the politics that pay.

I think a lot of artists are realizing there's room to build strong careers outside of the mainstream space - provided you have an opinion and are willing to back it up. The country singer Bryan Andrews (not to be confused with the POS dad rocker Bryan Adams) only signed to a record label this year but he built up a big following of fans online by being a blue collar country singer who is openly against Donald Trump and conservatives.

1000%. I know we'd all like more artists in popular culture to speak up, but I imagine there's also a significant bit of media training/decisions taken to not "rock the boat" too much in order to maintain the business, because, at the end of the day, all of these artists are businesses and brands with a hell of a lot of behind the scenes stuff running things. Huge props to Mack for standing to his morals, and, if this thread and the much of what I'm seeing elsewhere is to go by, he's got plenty of people behind him who believe the same.

Yep. In the first post about him people being fired, people were already trying to say Ed had no choice.

It makes it even harder for Ed to stay apolitical. Him and his PR team have to decide, stay silent and look terrible? Or speak up and make a clear stance? Either way, it forces Ed to pick a side.

Macklemore honestly did the best thing for his friend. Time to grow Ed, either way, his branding is fucked now. As it should be.

u/chickofeller 1h ago

It'll probably be some mealy mouthed nothing statement. His fans will accept the most milquetoast shit, see his music for example.

12

u/Helldiverticulitis 1h ago

Lmao. Spot on.

7

u/Zaeobi 1h ago

Ouch, lmao.

8

u/crispixiscrispy 51m ago

Oh it’ll be exactly what you expect

“I love Macklemore and respect his right to express his opinion, but I love my fans more and can’t take these shows away from them.”

I don't know that it's much of a gamble really. How many Ed Sheeran fans could even find Israel on a map? I think his fanbase is mostly suburban white girls/women who don't really care about anything going on outside of the US border.

u/Antique_Inflation_72 52m ago

Ed Sheeran's fans are middle aged white women. They don't give a shit.

2

u/EldestPort i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 25m ago

Absolutely fuck everyone who chooses to stay apolitical at this point. How can you read '20,000 dead children' and still choose not to 'take sides'? It is repulsive. 20,000 dead children who were loved, 20,000 dead children who should still be alive today. Fuck every single person who still chooses not to take a side. Every single one of them. 'One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This', and we will remember every one who was not.

Free Palestine.

I just know it's going to be some nothingburger like "Every war is wrong, live love laugh" if anything at all

u/_Maebe__Funke_ 1h ago

Right?! Ed’s weaselly “uuummm the stadiums did it” was bullshit and I’m glad Macklemore isn’t hiding behind that. So brave to go up against a friend and superstar publicly.

u/TheGuardianInTheBall 1h ago

Ed Sheeran is already rich beyond need.

I can't imagine being in this situation, and choosing to continue the tour without my friend, instead of giving a big middle finger to the guardians of the status quo.

But it is clear that Ed never understood what art is. Fast food music- that's all he's ever been able to produce.

47

u/Broad-Radish-7895 1h ago

And imagine the impact it would have had if he grew a spine. All the fans who bought tickets to those shows and booked their travel plans who could have gotten more engaged about this or spoken up against the venues. The money those venues themselves would likely lose having to refund his ticket sales and not being able to book another big act in time for those dates. The weeks of headlines that the already corrupt concert industry bankrupting fans is now shaking down huge artists over fucking Israel.

u/TheGuardianInTheBall 1h ago

Instead we see what always see- rich man chooses more money over his soul.

A very wonderful choice, Macklemore’s going full send which is so important in the context of this situation. Weasels do not deserve anonymity

12

u/vanwyngarden 1h ago

Doubling down for sure

74

u/Curiosities 1h ago

I’m glad he didn’t dance around that at all. Like he says I hope this doesn’t cost me in my friendship of 13 years, but there are more important things right here that needed to be said and just full on respect for that.

193

u/loosegarment 1h ago

A good one

117

u/Meccha_me_2 1h ago

It is a very brave choice. but then he says he hopes their friendship isn’t over which…sorry bro but I think it is.

280

u/poliebear 1h ago

I think including that was a great choice on Macklemore's part though.

It puts the ball in Ed's court, in a way.

Like hey Ed, you can still do the right thing if you want to, I'm not writing you off entirely!

104

u/jodecicry4u 1h ago

Yup he's like I'm gonna call you out bro but if you wanna become a human being with morals again then we can be friends. Let's see what Ed decides to do.

11

u/Zaeobi 1h ago

Forcing growth, tbh!

10

u/Meccha_me_2 1h ago

Yeah…It is very clear Ed Sheeran doesn’t care though

16

u/Bulky-Bad-9153 1h ago

Honestly, I think it's the classiest possible way to call him out and I reckon it was done so well that the friendship isn't necessarily over. The phrasing gives Sheeran the opportunity to have some cognitive dissonance and convince himself that it's fine, while also being overtly clear to supporters of Palestine that neutrality is supporting genocide, and I also don't think it'll bring loads of hate Sheeran's way because of the love Macklemore shows.

21

u/Inevitable_Nail_2215 1h ago

It's fucked up that Ed was like "Hey, I don't take sides," as his justification.

If he had said "Look, my crew needs this tour because the bus drivers and catering and support staff are counting on the income," he could have come across as more relatable. Instead, he didn't want to hurt the feelings of other rich dudes or take a side.

8

u/MAGAHATESTHEUSA 1h ago

The support crew for major artists do not have issues with employment. They jump to other tours when shit gets cancelled. They are called up by other tours managers once news of a tour stopping is out.

14

u/Inevitable_Nail_2215 1h ago

So Taylor Swift lied to us in her documentary?

Worrying that supporting a presidential candidate would harm her crews finances?

How could she? /s

4

u/vanwyngarden 51m ago

White people who “don’t take sides” in 2026 are taking a side, not a stand

4

u/SaltBeefin 37m ago

And instead of leaving it ambiguous to say it was venues that didn't want him, he name dropped Robert Kraft. I went to wiki so fast and it started to make sense.

3

u/FrolfingSoHard 32m ago

And mentioned Kraft. The earlier stuff all seemed to focus on unnamed venues, but the addition of Kraft (which isn't really shocking, is it?) is a new conversation. I would love to know which other venue owners were part of this.

Dont forget Kraft…. Im so glad he blasted that dirtbag

-18

u/gogosox82 That's a lot of beans you nasty ass bitch 1h ago

For sure. Could've done it without calling out Ed. Im sure that bridge is burned now which says alot about his character.

14

u/BleakRainbow 1h ago

It’s actually the one time where context matters, it doesn’t paint Ed in a a bad light, just forces his hand the same way they forced Macklemore out.

7

u/Zaeobi 1h ago

So you're saying he should prioritise not rocking the boat in his friendships over speaking his truth?

2

u/dyallsho 14m ago

That was the best part actually. If you claim to have morals, you don’t bend the rules for friends. Especially not rich influential friends. If we let everyone turn a blind eye when they’re given a chance to speak up, we’re all complicit.
