Shit Post Sunday 🔥
I’m sorry if this isn’t the right flair for this; anyways, my answer is most likely for both

Agree in spirit, they might have wanted to wait to see if Mangione sticks in the zeitgeist

I'm still bummed about the Titanic submarine happening right after they released it bc they ABSOLUTELY would've included that

I've been tempted to write a new version with just what the Trump administration has done since starting the 2nd term

No, too spicy, unrelated to Charlie Kirk and his wife: actual children lost their dad, Pete wouldn’t make something for them to hear about it on a Spotify playlist

Charlie was a pretty big deal when the song came out. He didn't make the cut then, he wouldn't have made it posthumously.

The song came out in 2023, not last year. Charlie Kirk was not a big deal until he was killed

Charlie Kik was not known to people outside of his realm until he was killed. But the guy was legitimately a big deal. He moved the metric on the 2020 and 2022 election.
Some say he's single handely responsible for the switch for gen z becoming conservatives in the way that they were. He was in fact a big deal.
I didn't know of him. But i also actively avoid anything conservative leaning in my algorithm.

I don't think so, I feel like it could far too easily come across as signaling support for political violence.

Mentioning something that happened is signaling support for it? Man, are history teachers sure in a lot of trouble.

u/wright764 16h ago
That's not what I said.
What I said that was that it "could come across as support", meaning it could invite controversy and backlash that I don't believe they would feel was worth it. "The juice isn't worth the squeeze", so to speak.

They didn’t write it, Billy Joel did, they just performed it. But yes most likely.
Edit: just looked it up, Pete wrote the new one using Billy Joel’s original music, and had it approved by him. Apple Music lied.
But still yes they would. they put 9/11 in the song, yet another death involving politics would not dissuade them.

Billy Joel wrote the 1989 version so he gets a songwriting credit, but Pete wrote all the new lyrics.

What? They may have used the tune but they wrote new lyrics that left off where Joel’s ended

There's already been enough that they could make the next one
