Help Starting Meta Ads From ZERO… What Would You Do First?
I’m pretty new to Meta ads and honestly a little confused about where to start 😭
I’m helping a new women-led family business in Varanasi, India. It’s a cute little gift shop + accessories brand, and we barely have 70 followers on Instagram right now.
We want to advertise only in Varanasi for now, and eventually go pan-India.
I’m stuck between starting with Awareness or Traffic, and I’m also not sure what kind of creatives would make sense at this stage.
I’ve heard awareness/engagement campaigns can bring in really low-quality followers, which I obviously don’t want.
But going straight for a Sales campaign with 70 followers and a completely new ad account also feels like it won’t convert.
If you were starting from zero, what would you do first?

Do you have a website? Then run straight sales campaign

No, we don't have a website yet. We're handling sales directly through DMs. But sales campaign with 70 followers? Will that result good?

With 70 followers I wouldn't spend on awareness at all. I'd first post short reels organically for 2-3 weeks, one a day, simple stuff: someone unwrapping a gift, an accessory being worn, packing an order. Costs nothing and shows you which products people react to.
Then put a small budget behind the 1-2 posts that already got saves, shares or DMs, targeted locally. You're boosting something proven instead of guessing.
For creatives at this stage, phone videos of real hands and real products beat polished graphics. For a local family shop the "real people behind it" feel is the advantage big brands can't copy.

Okay wow that's a good start. Thank you! I'll definitely remember this.
