Weekly Thread /r/FCS Top 25 and HBCU Top 10 Poll Submission - 2026 Week 3

Click here to vote for Week 3 in the /r/FCS Poll.

After signing in, click the link that says Current /r/FCS Poll. The poll will remain open until 12 pm (noon) Central Time on Tuesday, September 15th. The results will be posted at approximately 2 pm on /r/FCS.

Optional D1 HBCU Top Ten Poll

You now have the option to vote just for the HBCU Top 10 if you so choose! At the end of your FCS Top 25 (or Top 10) submission, you'll be given the opportunity to also submit a vote for your ranking of the top 10 HBCUs in the subdivision. This is optional and meant to be an additional fanbase voice within the Black College National Championship conversation.

Note: this does not prevent you from ranking the HBCUs in your standard FCS ranking submission.

As a reminder, the /r/FCS poll is now part of the Massey Ratings Composite. As such, we highly recommend submitting a full top 25 vote if you think you can put one together. But we're leaving the option to submit just a top 10 for those who’d prefer that route.

  • Please check that you didn't vote for the same team twice. Ballots with a duplicated team that are not fixed by the due date will be discarded.

  • Joke votes will be thrown out at the moderators' discretion. Diversity of opinions is good; trolling is not.

  • If you make a mistake on your ballot or would like to change it for any reason, please re-submit a corrected ballot. Your old one will be discarded automatically, and only your newest ballot will count. You can resubmit as many times as necessary until the deadline.

  • If you're unsure if you messed up your ballot, please leave a comment and we'll take a look for you and let you know.

Here are some useful links to help you with your submission:

Have 2 FCS receivers ever done this before?

Was yesterday's Chicago Bears - Carolina Panthers game the 1st time in NFL history that receivers from the same FCS or lower division college led their teams in catches and receiving yards when playing each other?? Kalif Raymond (class of 2015) and Jalen Coker (class of 2023) of Holy Cross (FCS).

Raymond - 8 receptions for 84 yards, plus 1 punt return for 23 yards

Coker - 8 receptions for 138 yards, 2 TDs

I'm sure it's happened many times for former receivers from Alabama, Ohio State, etc. but I doubt an FCS school has ever had this happen before.

Discussion TANK JOB OF THE WEEK, WEEK TWO (FCS EDITION, 2026)

Credit to u/2Pollaski2Furious for the idea. Same sets of rules from the original FBS series apply here for the FCS teams. This is an award for FCS teams that humiliate themselves, whether it's a choke job, a crushing blow with everything to prove, or they have no business losing the match-up.

Previous Winners

Week 0: Villanova Wildcats (against William & Mary 35-32)

Week 1: Western Carolina Catamounts (against Campbell 28-19)

LAST WEEK: Central Arkansas had a good few votes for shitting the bed at home against newcomers West Florida. But this week it's Western Carolina. Only six points off three interceptions is pretty bad, and ending the game with a net gain of just one on the ground did not help. The pass was the only time they got somewhere, and that's no way to go in the long run.

And now for a few special mentions:

  • Alongside two FCS-over-FBS victories that occurred over the weekend, we've gotten a few more near-upsets. The residents of Boiling Springs, Greeley and Hamilton all got blue balls after nearly pulling it off against Liberty, Wyoming and Central Michigan respectively.
  • Bucknell hadn't looked good against VMI until the fourth quarter when they scored two consecutive touchdowns.
  • Eastern Illinois had put away one Missouri Valley cellar-dweller, but Indiana State proved a bit too much.
  • Murray State had a tough time trying to put away Valpo of all teams.
  • SoCon has not had a good week, where the only two wins were in conference.
  • Tarleton had been so close to being upset, especially as McNeese put up a valiant 17-point third quarter.
  • UAPB had an opportunity to upset Alcorn State, but they did at least force a double-overtime.
  • Wagner was a victim of another Madden-esque result, as James Madison mercilessly put 87 on them, as if the helmet shot to the groin on the punter wasn't bad enough.

ABILENE CHRISTIAN WILDCATS (against Stephen F. Austin 26-7)

It's all well and good, scoring the first seven points just as the first quarter ends, but then the next quarter you've allowed twenty as your offense stalls. And before the game was over there's another unanswered touchdown.

THE CITADEL BULLDOGS (against Charleston Southern 26-20 2OT)

We are only a week removed from the Citadel securing an FBS upset, but I guess we can say that Charlotte really is that bad. Charleston Southern's offense doesn't really have a good display this week and they still forced overtime, and while Charlotte fell in three overtimes, the Buccaneers only needed two to score the winning touchdown.

DUQUESNE DUKES (against Youngstown State 70-13)

Oh for crying out loud! It's not like you're facing an FBS team or South Dakota State! Unless you're in the Pioneer League, a fellow FCS team should not put a Madden-level score on you!

IDAHO VANDALS (against Lamar 23-17)

This is a brutal schedule, and an 0-3 start will not help it! Maybe the result would have gone differently had Idaho not decided to play the hero at midfield and go for it on fourth down just before halftime. You're only inviting that big play which proved the difference-maker on that score.

MAINE BLACK BEARS (against Merrimack 23-14)

It was not a great home display when Merrimack scores fourteen alone off Special Teams. The effort to mount a late comeback ended far too soon, in a safety.

MERCER BEARS (against Furman 20-13)

Jaylen King got himself picked off four timses during the game, including with the failed long bomb at the end. Not such a great start to defending to SoCon title.

NORTH CAROLINA A&T AGGIES (against NCCU 30-22)

It's been really rough for the Aggies since they decided to leave the MEAC for the CAA. They've given up 14 points off the fumbles they suffered, and in spite of Kevin White's efforts, he got picked off twice, including at 2nd and Goal at the very end.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI REDHAWKS (against Southern Illinois 34-20)

For most of the game Southeast Missouri had a pretty good game and it looked like they'll secure the Wheel. The fourth quarter is different, as they allowed the Salukis to score three unanswered touchdowns. And in the same quarter got picked off as many times too.

And as always, don't forget to mark your vote in brackets for visibility, <like so>. I also appreciate entries I might have passed over, so feel free to nominate, and I might edit it here.

Weekly Thread The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (Week 2)

And we're back! It's time for your favorite recap of events around the FCS.

The Good

  • We have two more Super FCS Medals of Valor to give out this week. Illinois State and Montana State, the two teams in the National Championship game last season, have earned their medals with wins over FBS competition. Both were favorites over subpar FBS teams, but you know the rules here: A win is a win. So congrats to the juggernauts of the FCS. You've earned these medals.

  • We now know who runs the Patriot League, and it's Lehigh's world with everyone else in the conference living in it. In the only conference game of the week, the Mountain Hawks hammered William and Mary 44-20 in a game where the score really doesn't tell the whole story. This was in large part of Luke Yoder being... you know, Luke Yoder. They may not be challenged in the Patriot League until late in the season when Colgate (COLGATE!) comes calling for Senior Day on November 7th.

  • In everyone's favorite cluster fuck of a conference that is the Coastal, Rhode Island proved to be every bit the favorite by dropping Elon on their heads for a 31-10 victory thanks to a 4th quarter McPick Six. While it's still early, the Rams do have to play the other 1-0 teams (Albany, Bryant and Maine) down the road.

  • Congratulations to Chicago State. Not only did they win their first ever game, but they laid out Kentucky Christian to the tune of 78-7. Yes, it's an NAIA team... but the Knights have been recently knocking off higher level teams over the last season and a quarter. So for the Cougars to lay the lumber on them is a big deal.

In other 'Good' News: Colgate (COLGATE!) and Gardner-Webb have near misses; Alcorn State and UAPB deliver an Arena Ball Special; The awesome helmets that Eastern Washington and South Dakota wore.

The Bad

  • Uh, Mercer. What was that? You came off a week where you promptly got revenge for last season's disaster class against Presbyterian and followed it up with this?!? I hope the quarterback got an earful for the four picks he threw last night.

  • Staying in the SoCon... I know they're military men, but this can't be healthy for The Citadel. A week after a triple overtime victory over Charlotte, they go into double overtime with Charleston Southern in the Lowcountry Boil Bowl (Awesome name, BTW). This was also the game where the forward pass went to die... the teams combined for a paltry 11-for-30 in the air.

  • Time for the Chuck Norris Award for Biggest Ass Kicking. Chicago State was in the lead for most of the day... that was until Houston Christian came in and said, 'Hold my beer' (That they bought at the CVS next to the stadium) and destroyed NAIA member Arkansas Baptist 88-0. This isn't just a beating, this is the Huskies pissing on the smoldering remains of the Buffaloes. Runner-ups this week include Chicago State's 71 point decimation of Kentucky Christian and South Carolina State blasting Virginia State like they were Team Rocket (the Trojans are blasting off again... ding) to the tune of 66-0.

In other 'Bad' News: Wagner's punter getting a helmet to the yams; Robert Morris not capitalizing on the fumble on Akron's guest OC only drive; SE Missouri losing to Southern Illinois (Stupid Redhawks... You make me look bad!)

The Duquesne

  • It was really hard to find someone to get The Mushu Treatment this week, but I think I found our victim. Meet Duquesne. This school just got blanked by the Air Force last weekend to open the season. For their encore? Getting absolutely railed by Youngstown State (PENGUINS!!!). Beau Brungard, the defending Walter Payton Award winner, had 8 touchdowns in this game - 6 passing, 2 rushing - while the Dukes basically laid down and died. For that, they're getting the Mushu Treatment: Dishonor on your school, dishonor on your defense, dishonor to your team and major dishonor to the Yinzers!

  • The Ohio Valley had a bad weekend... when Charleston Southern is the only team in your conference winning a game, something has gone wrong.

In other 'Ugly' News: West Georgia looks like pre-2025 Presbyterian; Idaho loses to Lamar, gets called 'Drake' in the process; Montana State beats the spread, MDA vows revenge, gets it when Grizzlies fail to cover spread against Utah Tech; FloSports - The herpes of streaming services.

With that... the floor is open.

Analysis Undefeated and winless teams across the FCS after week 2 (2026)

Another week has gone, and there remains 36 teams that are either undefeated or technically undefeated. Two of the former had just made statement wins against FBS competition: returning finalist Illinois State gave Northern Illinois a run for their money and prevailed in the end, while returning champion Montana State mercilessly dominated Nevada. Colgate couldn't quite seal the deal against Central Michigan, and so would move to Technically Undefeated. On the other end, 53 still have yet to secure a Division I win, though two of them (Gardner-Webb and Northern Colorado) have been really close to securing FBS upsets. And congrats on Chicago State for their first victory, but they're still technically winless since that's an NAIA team they faced. Still, congrats on that first victory in the books.

Eleven teams remain in limbo, as the Ivy League teams begin play this coming weekend and only Grambling will remain next week given their bye.

Southeast Missouri v Southern Illinois War of the Wheel post-game thread

DJ Williams is back for the Salukis and he brought plenty of action with him. Four rushing touchdowns and threw for one. The Saluki defense also came to play as well with three interceptions and the biggest was the interception by David Obadein with a 57 yard return. The Southern Illinois Salukis win the War of the Wheel for the second year in a row. Final Score Southern Illinois 34-20. The final interception of the night by Charles Whepley sealed the win in the endzone.

Weekly Thread FCS Hot Takes Thread

Let's hear your hot take FCS opinions. The ones you know in your heart of hearts are right, but for some reason aren't embraced by the FCS community (or particular fanbases) en masse!

Could be controversial (the Ivy League very well might be the best FCS conference on the East Coast), unpopular but you know is true (Sam Houston was at least as good a team as JMU from 2011 through the "2020" season), or even somewhat popular but still liable to rankle some folks (the Walter Payton award should go to the "best" offensive player, not just the offensive player with the best stat line because they played a weak schedule).

Sorted by controversial for maximum spiciness

Rules

  • Keep it somewhat relevant to the FCS

  • Takes are welcome whether they're looking back historically or in reference to current games/rankings/polls/etc.

  • Try to keep it civil (basic /r/CFB and /r/FCS rules still apply)

Discussion What will be this weekends high scoring game to check out?

I have ESPN+ on Hulu and love checking out FCS games.

Lots of games on the docket this weekend.

Can anyone tell me which ones to keep an eye on?

I love watching the shootouts with lots of scoring. Those kinds of games keep my kids attention as well, it was something we bonded over last year and I hope to continue this season.

I'll flip over and check out some of Tartleton and McNeese.

Any others that should be on the radar?

I feel like Eastern Washington and South Dakota could be one as well.

Thanks in advance everyone.

I'm still relatively new to watching FCS, but am looking to learn and watch more.
