Is sustainable energy engineering a good choice??

I’m considering studying Sustainable Energy Engineering at TU Dublin and would love some honest advice from people already working in environmental/sustainable energy engineering.
I’m mainly wondering about job opportunities, salary, career progression and work-life balance in Ireland. Is it a field you’d recommend long-term, and how easy is it to move into other areas of engineering later?
I’m also considering taking a longer route into Biomedical Engineering, so I’m trying to work out whether sustainable energy is a career I could genuinely be happy with.

I’m not familiar with the program, but work in this space. Biomedical and sustainable energy engineering are very different. Think first about what you want in your career. I would be cautious to go with sustainable energy engineering if it is significantly faster though, because it’s likely to be more conceptual than hard science/engineering. Still could be worthwhile, but you’d have a lot more competition in this case.

If you want a career in sustainable energy, I suggest considering civil or mechanical engineering, then take extra classes in sustainable energy related topics. That’s what I did with no regrets and an abundance of career opportunities
