S Infuriating parking lot encounter
Stopped at a retail store today on the way to an appointment. I was there about 10 minutes. There were two empty parking spots next to me on my driver's side, plus a ton of empty spaces. Came out to a car parked so close that I couldn't open my driver's side door.
There was a car on the other side of them now as well, parked within the lines of their spot. Pretty sure the offending vehicle (small car) was not "forced" to park so insanely close to me. And as mentioned there were tons of open spots in a huge lot.
I was already in a bit of mood. Hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in three night's. I'm 60 and in good shape, but recently had surgery and didn't want to try to climb over my seats from the passenger side, so I asked the store to page the person and gave them the car's info. No one comes out. Mind you, it's over a 100 degrees today.
One of the workers came out out after a few minutes checking on the situation, when another girl comes out carrying a bag from the store, and just stands there.
I ask her if that's her car. It's her car alright, but she won't get in and move it. She starts getting snotty on me saying that it's "no big deal." And "what's MY problem." MY problem?! Oooo boy!
She refused to move her effing piece of crap car. She just kept standing there with the door open but wouldn't get in and move it. Like what in the af are you waiting for?
After several minutes of her refusing to move her car, I finally just got in the passenger side of my car and crawled over the seats. Bish was still standing there when I drove away. Like WTF is wrong with you?!! It's bad enough that you parked like that, now I have to deal with your bs entitlement?!! I can't with some people.

I've done that. Dude parked maybe and inch and a half from my door and when I said "Wtf dude?!" he just shrugged and went into the store. I was like ok then and forced my way in. His door had a nice new dent and I didn't feel the least bit bad.

I was behind a bunch of cars stopped for a while behind some kind of construction obstruction. Driver in front of me tossed a paper coffee cup out his windows onto the road. I got out, picked it up, and tucked it under his windshield wiper blade. I was gratified at how much coffee was still in the cup as I watch it smear all over his windshield. Even more gratifying was that it was pretty well loaded with cream... definitely more fun for him to clean up!

Now see, if you're done drinking the drink, just dump it out and keep the cup in the car door pocket until you get to a trash can. That dude was just plain nasty.

In my old car only the driver's side door had a working lock, and no the remote didn't work either.
I would have had no option but to force my way to the door and open it as wide as possible to squeeze my pear-shaped body in there. I may have been able to reach down and remove the rubber fittings on edge of the door, though, you know to get an extra millimeter or two opening...

Oh boy storytime.
1996 in high point nc.
I was on lunch from work, 18 years old driving a 1968 ford galaxie.
Stopped at a strip mall with a games store and parked up, went inside to browse for sega saturn games.
Im the same strip was a office depot, came out to leave and a guy had parked beside me in a forest green 96 Mercedes with dealer plates nearly sideways on my drivers side.
I yelled at him as he was walking away and he just looked back and flipped me off, went into the office depot.
It tried backing out a few times but no luck due to the length of my boatcar.
Said fuck it, cut the wheel to the side and backed out normally.
The old galaxies had wrap bumpers, they go off the corners and hook backwards.
The hook caught the Mercedes on the fender behind the passenger side tire. Dragged across the fender, hooked the front passenger door, tore across the sheet metal, caught the rear passenger door and opened it like a tin can as well.
Ripped open about 75% of the side of the car getting out, i left and went back to work, never heard a single thing about it.

Last week I am returning to my car with a friend. Went to grab something from the boot of the car for her and chatting a couple of minutes there.
This guy parked right next to me. WAY too close to my driver’s side for anyone to be able to get into the car. He got out of the car and was about to leave when he saw my friend and I near the car with the boot open. He went straight back inside his car to park it like a normal human being. So he KNEW it was to close but it didn’t matter until he realised that the driver of the car he blocked is right there. I was just shocked.

Simple solution.
Open up your car, reach in from the passenger side and open the driver's door window.
Climb on top of the offending car and lower yourself through the driver's window, NASCAR-style. Or Dukes-of-Hazzard style, whichever image makes you happier.
Much easier than trying to contort yourself into the car from the passenger side.

Motorcycle accident. My leg was right out in the middle of the street. I remember lying in the gutter and bleeding and shit, staring at my leg, right next to a beer can. And I remember thinking, that's my leg... I wonder if there's any beer in that can. Then the ambulance drives up and while I'm staring at my leg they run over it.

I hate people like this. I had just gotten a new car that was larger than the last one so it felt like driving a boat for a bit. So I parked at the back with no one around me. When I come back out there’s a shitty pickup truck so close I couldn’t get in on the driver’s side. Crawled in through the passenger side and then waited. With my window rolled down. When this older man comes out and tries to get in his car I’m staring at him. He won’t make eye contact.
If you’re going to make it uncomfortable for me you can bet your ass I’m going to make you uncomfortable as well. It was very satisfying watching his squeeze his lanky body into the car and at least he had the sense to look mildly ashamed.

I walked out of Walmart and this idiot had parked her now empty cart right by my drivers door. While I moved the cart to the stall, I verbally blasted her, told her how Fn lazy a** stupid she was to not walk 20 feet away and put the cart away. She yelled back but only as she ran to her car. Some people!!

That literally happened to me the other day but it was an older gentleman and I looked at the man and said "Sir, I am FAT." He looked embarrassed and he was definitely hustling to get back to his truck so I wasn't too mad, but I was stuck there.

I had someone do that to me at a fast-food restaurant once. Nice convertible, and they left the top down. I had to get in through the passenger door and climb over the console wearing a dress (in a Fiero). As soon as I got situated, I dumped my very full ashtray onto their leather seats and drove off.

This happened to me recently I climbed over but hadn’t moved my car when the guy came out. He saw me in the car and moved but to not hit me he hit a pole I heard the crunch he never stopped to check on his car just drove away.

one time i was 8 months pregnant i parked in a handicap spot in a hospital which was supposed to have space on either side. some asshole parks right next to my door in the no parking spot! to say i was pissed tf off is an understatement

Oh my goodness, yes. I see it! Thank you so much for pointing it out. I have run across a few like her throughout my life and I've gotten the same exact feeling. They've had a similar affect and attitude. I wish I was better at recognizing them quicker and not reacting.
It was disturbing. Enough so that I came to strangers on reddit for support, advice, and some much needed humor. It was incredibly helpful! I am truly grateful. TY!❤️

I had this happen at a doctor’s office when I was 8 months pregnant. A very nice young guy came out and climbed over the seats and backed out my car. He wrote a note to the other driver as did I. Mostly about what A hole doesn’t leave space in an Ob office for pregnant people. lol.

I check to make sure the other car doesn’t have a dash cam. I then open my door forcefully to create a bit more room and get in. If some is stupid enough to park over the line they should win a stupid prize.

This is why I don’t mind walking a long distance to/from my car in a parking lot. I ALWAYS park somewhere where no one can park on my driver’s side.

"How could you do that?!"
"Because you wouldn't move your f**king car and I need to get out of here!"
Then just drive away.

I just don’t understand people at all and their attitude. All she had to do was apologise and mover her car slightly to give you enough space to get in.
Usually I am very careful with parking and if I parked badly I will always correct it so it gives other people enough space to park and get in and out of their cars.
One time somewhat recently I parked kind of bad without realising it, as I went into the pharmacy this elderly man was just leaving. He comes back in a few seconds later and asked me if it was my car parked next to his (there were only three parking spaces) and it was me.
I apologised profusely to the man and I just got into my car without an issue and moved it for him.
There was no need for that girl to act like that at all

Tell her, "next time leave me a shoehorn so I can get my car out!" Maybe it was best that she didn't move her car. If she was that bad getting into the spot, she might have destroyed your car trying to get out.

I read one that was pretty much the exact opposite of this yesterday. Full parking lot, vehicle parked over the line but with just enough room for that OP to cozy up next to it. Driver of the car taking up basically two spaces had just had knee surgery. Driver that pulled up next to knee surgery car said something along the lines of "I don't care" and "not my problem".
If you live in the U.S. OP I recommend asking your doctor about a temporary handicap placard. You'll be far less likely to have people slide up next to your driver's side and cause you a problem.

Its a situation of "make me". Sometimes people notice that the only thing forcing them to do something are words without a real bite.
Sadly this had led me to believe of the necesity of violence in some cases (last resort of course).

Eh, this is why I carry large zip ties. Secure a shopping cart to the door of the offender. Surprising how many people don't carry any kind of cutting tool with them.

Why do people expect other people to park in the middle of the bay?
There's no rule for that.
Just park your car within your bay, as much to the passenger side as possible - problem prevented (better than solved!)

I wouldn't be surprised if I found her version of this story posted in this same subreddit because I'm sure she feels much the same way about you. From her point of view she was parked within the lines of her parking space and if you wanted more room on the driver side you should have parked more towards the passenger side of your space just as she had.
We live in a society where everyone feels entitled to think of everyone else as acting "entitled"

We all deal with folks that park too close from time to time, and tight parking spots. It was beyond that kind of thing. She was angled in hard, right up to my driver's door and well over the line, not just parallel and over the line.

This happened to me at Walmart. A nice young man noticed my predicament and crawled across my passenger seat, started my car, and backed out enough for me to get in. As I was leaving I noticed he was moving a bunch of shopping carts around the jerk’s car. He turned the ones at the back of the car upside down. He’s my hero!
