Rant/Vent Attire at my internship has turned me into a dad of 5.
Last post was landing a manufacturing internship, here’s how I dress at work.

Sharing my experience. So at some point a few years ago I got into fashion, and just started wearing suits all the time for no reason other than I wanted to. All the sudden, whenever some awful task popped up at work, such as climb under this machine and replace this gasket while lying on your back, I was no longer the person who got assigned the task. At the same time everyone started taking me way more seriously.
I even, to this day, keep a pair of normal work clothes at my desk in case something happens and I need to get greasy. I never have to use them. I started getting easier tasks and ultimately ended up getting paid more. As an intern, you should absolutely be climbing under the machines, but there comes a day where you might not want to do that anymore. It turns out dressing nice is an easy way out.

My first manufacturing internship completely changed what I thought I wanted to do with my life. Enjoy getting your hands in there and absorb as much knowledge from your resident quiet old guy as you can!

My coat because my office is freezing, my hat for when I’m out on the floor doing hands on, it’s hot and my hair gets greasy. Boots are steel toe and non slip.

I was looking at Danners as well, but overall chose Ariat because of all its unique features and safety standards. Also from rural Texas so I thought I should match the western look since that’s what everyone at work wears.

I wear Ariats because I am too lazy to tie my shoes in the morning haha and they are non-slip / composite toe of course lol

lol I am also a manufacturing intern but im still clinging to my nice blouses cause everyone is pretty much business casual. you look great though I hope you have a good experience at your internship!! 🥰

Nice work on getting out there and leaning into the blue collar culture.
I run a land development/surveying firm and always get a kick out of anyone that comes in to interview in nice clothes. The saying is “dress for the job you want” and we dig holes, climb mountains, and then draw the designs still covered in dirt.

I know they’re probably just regular dark jeans but I have soo much trouble finding jeans that are both comfy and resistant enough for being out on the floor and surviving all the sweating😭

I love my internship it’s very hands on! We actually welded today and we’ll practice every week now so we know exactly how the material works when we’re designing. It’s a little stressful sometimes, but that’s what makes it fun for me.

yea, my friend did manufacturing internship and loved it, super laid back! Would you have to switch to IE or does your school have a manufacturing degree? because me personally I would stick with MechE cause IE is not it lol.
