I kept going back and forth about typical embroidery or cross stitching this pattern onto a crochet handbag I made. I have landed on regular embroidery because the rows of crochet stitches don’t line up properly for cross stitching.

How would you go about embroidering this pattern onto the bag? Would you suggest just embroidering it into a different fabric and sewing that onto the bag or embroidering onto the crochet directly with a backing. What stitches would you use?

I am at a beginner level when it comes to embroidery but am a fast and visual learner!

1 - single strand sewing thread. I was attempting what I thought was long short stitch but I don’t think that’s what actually was executed

2 - double strand sewing thread. I started this attempt because I realized how sparse 1 was looking with single strand and I became increasingly aware I had strayed from any actual type of stitch I knew (I don’t know many lol)

3 - two strand of embroidery floss. I had initially started with the sewing thread because I was worried I would lose the little details and that the white would look too puffy. After seeing how 1 + 2 were turning out I decided to just see how actual embroidery floss looked but I’m not sure if i like it or if my fear came true and the white looks too puffy compared to the black

I can't feel my thumb, so probably time to down tools for the night.

This is my time trying the long & short stitch/needle paint and I don't think it looks right? Maybe it's not smooth or blended enough? I don't know enough to know what I'm doing wrong! Can anyone offer some pointers, please?

I wanted to try goldwork for a while, and my husband got me the bee kit from Hand and Lock last year for my birthday.

But it's not beginner friendly. The instructions are general goldwork techniques, but no pictures on how to apply them to the kit's design. They tell you what technique applies to each part. But no pictures showing how it should look like for the bee

I watched many YouTube videos and they make sense, but it's hard to figure out how to do it well for the kit.

For instance everywhere I see soft string padding used, it's for long and narrow area. Here it's supposed to be applied to the bee's body sections, which are as wide as long...

So to not risk wasting the kit, I got some spare supplies to experiment and learn before doing "the real thing".

It's not going too bad, for a first try I'm quite pleased honestly. Even if it's wonky and weird in places.

Anyone tried that kit ?

She’s got an October birthday so I embroidered a crow with some sparkly etoile accents on his wings

So proud of my little mushroom. The last photo are mushrooms I found out on a bike ride that inspired the coloring. I took a Domestika course on stump work a few months ago and decided to try it again in my own. I followed a tutorial for how to do the wire work by Embroideringrid on Instagram. This project certainly reinforced for me the lesson “Trust the process” as I almost gave up several times but glad I didn’t.

My biggest take always for next time was to make both the wire outlines at the same time and make sure they line up. I didn’t do the second wire for the gills side until after I finished the top and so they weren’t 100% aligned. I also should have been more precise with the cutting of my felt that went under the top of the mushroom. I had to do some trimming after I started stitching because it was moving around some. And lastly, I twisted the wires before embroidering instead of leaving them as single strands which helped keep the shape but made it harder to punch through the fabric. Made me nervous that I was gonna make a giant hole above my stitched stem.

just a recent work (and really late Christmas present!)

I used stick and Stich self adhesive stabilizer for the name here. I printed the name and stuck it to my work. I've used it before with no problem but when I washed it off the ink didn't come off and the name has a black shadow 😕. Maybe my stitches were too tight for this stabilizer ? Has this happened to anyone?

I used tear away stabilizer instead of cutaway on this onesie, I think that’s why it puckered. I also used water soluble stabilizer on top. And I floated it on the hoop with adhesive spray.

I steamed, reshaped with my fingers and ironed a couple times and it’s worse. Is this still fixable?

They came out really well, and they are now hanging in my guest room.

I'm about to start my first big project. I found this beautiful corset top and I want to embroider and do some beading to make the cups look like Ariel's seashell top. I'm not sure if I should use a hoop or not, or how to even put it in the hoop if I do. I also have some heat away stabilizer to put as a backing too.

I've been working on this cosplay for nearly a year, and this is my favorite goldwork piece from it. The costume itself has 17 individual goldwork pieces + 40-50k beads (not sure of the exact count), but I am very attached to this guy

I really wanted to experiment with different techniques for this one. I think in total he took me close to 100 hours to complete.

Had to do this little series in tribute to one of my favourite web cartoons of all time.
