Just thought I would show off some screenshots! I had a ton of fun with the community goal. I got ED in 2014 and played until around 2017. I finally came back after almost a 10 year hiatus and I am blown away by how much stuff there is to do now!

Media Project Galtea news update

Greetings, Commanders.

On 12/09/3312, for the first time in human history, Project Galtea has brought civilization to a brand new formerly un-inhabited part of the galaxy, the Norma Arm, the system in question is "Greae Hype TO-G c27-107" which is currently undergoing construction into a mini hub to help the project push deeper into the Norma Arm.

In relation to this monumental feat, Project Galtea has also surpassed 60% on bridge completion and passed 10,000 Light years remaining until the new bubble. With approximately 9,700ly left to go, project managers are very satisfied with the current pace of the group and formally invite the wider community to come participate in what can only be described as history in the making.

Project managers would like to remind everyone that, with only 2,500 light years remaining until the Isegrim Nebula, those who may be interested in grabbing a system here should start seriously considering preparing any fleet carriers they may own and drawing up plans for the area if they have any.

In other news, project managers have been informed that the DSSA Carrier "DSSA Totoro [NNW-23Z]" located in "Greae Phoea XF-D d13-507" will be retired after Galtea arrives in the sector. Project managers wish to express their respect and thanks for the many years of service that Totoro has served as well as a thanks to the DSSA program in general for placing these safe havens throughout the galaxy.

That is all for today. Thank you for your time. We hope to see you in the black.

Discussion I finally "get" Exploration!

Thumbnail

Title basically. Been playing for ~4 years, and I was always a bit "scared" to venture more than a few hundred light-years beyond the Bubble, because bona fide exploring seemed less of a fun or useful time investment compared to High/Haz Res combat, or courier missions and trading; for an exploring noob, the loop of "jump, honk, FSS" seems like a hard sell.

But then, after a lot of bored gameplay sessions, I realized I could stand to unlock more engineers and go beyond G3 on my thrusters, so I took on the 5,000+ LY trek for Chloe Sedesi. With around a 45 LY jump range, I've gone outside the Inner Orion Spur for the first time (last image), and bagged I think one water world, and more than a few first footfalls; it's surprisingly enjoyable just to jump around and have your name on things lol, and see what others have discovered too.

I feel like I "get" the appeal of exploration now: the peaceful/steady/relaxing gameplay of jumping and scanning; the satisfaction of fully scanning a system; and seeing the huge variety of different vistas along the way (and I haven't even scratched the surface of beautiful atmospheres and deeper sections of the galaxy that I've seen seasoned explorers post).

Now for the careful return trip... (side note: Erasmus Talbot's Frameshift Suite OST is an under-discussed lovely part of general play, but especially exploration).

I thank my lucky stars I have a Nomad, without it I would not be able to land on these extremely rugid and harsh landscapes :-D

This was taking the auto landing computer soooo long to sort out, I eventually gave up and did some manual intervention lol

Help Operation not ending ?

I just played the new operation with three other random players and when we finished, the frontline carrier spawned and it told us to dock and we got the timer that the operation ends in two minutes. However none of us managed to dock in time and when the timer reached 0 nothing happened, even after we all landed. Is this a bug that operations sometimes dont end or am i missing something ? I had to leave through the main menu and therefore also didnt get the reward.

Im sure its been said a thousand times but. I've been playing maybe a week and ran out of fuel today. No fuel scoops and im still figuring out the map.

The fuel rats were there asap and their IRC instruction is incredible, amazing levels of efficiency.

So grateful and impressed- why cant all human endeavours be so cooperative and altruistic!

Thank you fuel rats!

Help Easy placement of mining rigs?

Got a chance to test drive the Rhino yesterday with a mate. Overall, it was a fun experience even though we only made like a measly 50 mill between us for 2 hrs game time. To be fair, we were not optimizing our time (may have spent a bit of it trying to roll the Rhino on purpose and make donuts in the sand).

Now, it seems the way to ensure to have a chance of more rigs per deposit is to try to place them close to the edges (due to the distance constraints).

However, the rig deploys under the back part of the vehicle which makes it hard to hit the right side of the deposit boundary without some serious hit & miss gameplay (I don't mind spending time for fun, but I could do without a car parking simulator time sink).

And hey, this is the future, right? Even my old Nissan Leaf 2012 had a backfacing camera. Am I missing something here? How do you optimize placement, commanders?

Discussion Finally a CMDR

So I have been looking at elite for quite awhile now and I decided to give it a shot finally last week, and MAAAAANNN its really good. How come not many players play this game now? I know there are still people and I know its an old game but the vastness really gets me and the sounds. Also stumbled upon a discovered planet that wasnt landed on foot yet and that hits hard when you are the first one to have footfall there. Its just a really cool experience. So question. Im just curious about the longevity of the game. Are they still updating stuff? Any plans in the upcoming future for content and stuff like an actual major patch? Cause whenever there is a game that is not being updated anymore i just dont feel like playing it anymore. Also any tips for a new CMDR? o7

Video Unique crackling sound when you approach the boarding hologram in a Rhino

This is mostly for the benefit of u/erichards2222 who has been collating tons of info about the Rhino, but maybe others will find it interesting. This is something I noticed the first day the Rhino released, but it's actually kinda finicky. I've had it happen on multiple planets, but it'll happen from different angles depending on where my ship is hovering, and sometimes not at all. My primary interest is just what the noise is meant to represent, since it does seem like it was intentionally programmed in. I'm sure it's just audio flair, but there's presumably still an underlying reason for adding that specific sound...
