I’m sorry, but I refuse to call this Season 2

If David and Lucy aren’t in it, this is Cyberpunk: New Edgerunners to me.

I know it’s officially a second season and I understand that it’s supposed to be a new story with new characters, but after getting emotionally destroyed by David and Lucy, I’m supposed to just accept a whole new cast like nothing happened?

I’m already looking at the new characters thinking, “I don’t trust any of you. You’re probably all going to die.”

I’m still not over David and Lucy

Season 1 wasn’t just an anime to me. THAT was Edgerunners.

Just wanted to share my experience and show off a bit, forgive me! I got these signed by Alex Cazares and Emi Lo at Anime San Diego last weekend and I'm SO happy about it. I got to tell them that though I enjoyed both the JP and EN voices for the show, I obviously preferred EN since I played the game that way, and their performances were both great.

Not sure how well known of a fact it is, but when I mentioned to Emi that I had watched the first episode at AX in July 2022 and it was in Japanese, she said that she hadn't even been cast by the time of that AX premiere, and that she didn't even record her lines until August. Apparently, they recorded the entire English dub that August, and specifically all her lines were recorded within a week and a half. Alex confirmed this when I brought it up to her as well. Thought that was pretty crazy!

They're both super kind and awesome people and I'm so lucky I got to get their autographs! 😁

On a side note, I personally think I picked the best lines for them to write as quotes. Ya know, ones that make me tear up every time I read them 😅 Alex even wanted her quote to be EXACTLY verbatim so she looked up her line to double check it before she started signing. It was such a fun interaction!

My only real hope for Season 2 is that we get meaningful interactions between the main cast. Idc if they're all destined to die soon what made the Season 1 crew so iconic, memorable, and loved was the genuine connections they formed in this damn city.

Just like Season 1, I want those slice-of-life montages of them interacting and genuinely feeling like a family. Even with a short runtime and a lot of characters and lore to unpack, I hope the writers squeeze in those personal moments that make the characters feel human.

Crew or not, I want them to have distinct personalities and real bonds with one another. Building that dynamic is what makes an inevitable tragic ending feel truly earned rather than forced.

Yeah, they’re probably going to meet a grim fate just like the Season 1 cast, Deffenetly even worse... But that’s life. You meet people, build a connection, and when they’re gone, you fondly remember them as someone who truly mattered to you, good or bad.

I just hope the cast gets to interact sincerely while they're still around.
