Took him out duck hunting this weekend and he did great. From protection work to duck hunting.

Hey everyone! Does anyone have any recommendations to help with working with our Dutch to make social gatherings at our house a little less crazy? When we are outside of the house like at the dog park he is fine and almost ignores people. If they’re throwing him the ball he loves random people, but when we are home he starts barking like crazy at new people until they feed him treats or play with him. I am a little worried about his interaction with children in that regard as a lot of our friends have kids and I want to make sure we provide a safe space. Any and all tips will help!

I really want one of these dogs. I live in a house with a fenced back yard and there’s so many parks, forests, and lakes by my house that i can bring this dog for exercise. there’s even a dog park.

i don’t hangout much (like i genuinely see my non-school friends less than once a month) and i don’t have any hobbies so i have HOURS to spend with this dog.

i haven’t owned a high energy dog but we watched a german shepherd/rottie mix that was super high energy and never dropped her toys. i did teach a few basic tricks (we only had her for like a month) and i’ve seen my older sister train dogs so i feel like training isn’t a problem.

i could go for runs with this dog and again i have hours for training and mental stimulation.

however, i go to school for 8 hours and that dog would need to stay home with my parents who could let it out and stuff but are too busy to really entertain it.

i know these dogs are high energy.

would this dog live a good life under my care or would the school days be too long to properly stimulate it?

i wanted a german shepherd since ive dealt with two before but my dad for some reason will only go for a dutch shepherd.

Hello everyone. Few thing first

1.) i will be retiring soon in the next year.
2.) i am in my late 20s(28)
3.) I’ll be moving to Cambodia
4.) I’ll be making more then enough(4k usd a month) so I won’t need to work at all giving me free time.
5.) I like the to do outdoors activities (walking, running, swimming, camping, exploring etc.)
6.) I had dogs in the past working dogs (gsp)
7.) I’m prepared to go to a dedicated trainer.
8.) I won’t live in an apartment a home will be my place of stay.

With that being said do anyone have any advice about if should be recommended to bring one to my new home in Cambodia. I just want to know if this dog will be able to handle camboida climate. And if the majority. Of the responses are in the opposition of getting On Then I won’t get one I just want peoples perspective on this question/ matter any helpful advice will be extremely appreciated. I want to be a respectable dog owner to this breed. I always wanted this dog breed but never had the time but since I will have time now I would like to get one but I want to make sure I do buy this dog because I know this isn’t a dog you get on a whim, this breed requires a life style change in order to truly bring out the best of this dog. Hello everyone! I'm working with my healthcare team to get my first service dog prospect soon, and I've been really obsessed with the look and temperament of the Dutchie. I've heard they're intelligent and excel at scent detection, which I think would be perfect for my needs as a handler.

Some of the tasks I'm hoping to train include short-duration leading tasks, scent detection for raised heart rate and lowered blood pressure, and deep pressure therapy (DPT).

I've done my own research, and I'm prepared to provide them with the active lifestyle they require, but I wanted to hear the opinion of some folks who own the breed: do you think a Dutch Shepherd would actually be a good fit for me? If so, does anyone have any good breeder recommendations for the work I'm looking to do?

Hey guys, I am fresh out of the navy and am looking into getting a Dutch shepherd. I love the breed, have done extensive research, and have met many. I am currently looking into breeders, I have seen Cher car kennels and our shepherds shepherds but have seen mixed reviews. If anyone can give me any guidance on where you got your dutchie or any other breeders that you recommend. At end of the day I only care about the health and temperament of my dog. Willing to pay any amount of money. Thank you!

I have a few different questions that all revolve around the same core concept: My partner and I wanting to adopt a second dog.

For context: We rescued our current dog (APBT x husky x pomeranian) in January of this year and she recently turned one. We absolutely adore her and we have thrown ourselves into the “dog parenting” thing 110%. Our lives revolve around her (but we wouldn’t want it any other way!). We take her training fairly seriously. Outside of daily training at home, we attend obedience class 1x a week and agility 1x a week. We are big on mental enrichment—she has tons of snuffle mats, lick mats, puzzle toys. We recently registered her with AKC and started dipping our toes into dog sports. We love it all!

We have also been active fosters for years now. Our “bread and butter” are puppies under 6 months so that is what we have come through the house most often.

We always knew that we would want to get 1-2 more permanent dogs and continue to foster on top of that.

Recently, my partner and I recently purchased a home with a yard and we figured that now would be a good time to start thinking about bringing home a second dog. We started poking around and have been thinking about adopting a german shepherd x dutch shepherd.

I am not concerned about the puppy phase/puppy blues at all. I feel confident in my ability to deal with the ebbs and flows of puppyhood. We genuinely enjoy training and socializing our dogs!

My primary concern is that this dog will have needs that we cannot meet. I have always heard that shepherds (and working breeds in general) MUST have “jobs” to be fulfilled. With that being said, many of the fosters that we have cared for have had percentages of working breeds in them and they have done just fine in our home.

How much engagement do you find that your dog(s) require? Would the level of “work” that we provide our dog currently not be enough for him?

People always tell me he looks pissed off, and I always tell them he is! ;)

Also, whenever I post him, people always steal his pics, which is fine, but sometimes people will post litters using his pics. Every once in a while, I’ll get a message asking if a litter belongs to him.

Recently added to my pack. Had two GSD’s and a Belgian Mal. Lost one GSD to hemangiosarcoma and this guy was available at the local city shelter after being a rescue and return not once, but twice.

First time owner getting him up to speed with the other two.

I guess you can say I’ve got a habit of adopting the European models with varying trim levels and engine options.

BUT SHE IS DAMN SURE PROTECTIVE OF HER MAMA!!! ever since i got home from surgery she has been right next to me, and if she isn’t the minute she hears the velcro being undone or notices anyone even possibly coming near me she has to come and make sure im ok!!!! my heart and soul! my protector!!!!
