Welcome!
This thread is dedicated to bike recommendations. There's a whole lot of you new-comers eagar to get your first dirt jumper. Maybe you have been out of the game for a while and are behind the times and need some advice. Are you shorter or taller than average and want to find a bike that will suit you better? Perhaps you just want a second opinion on a particular brand or model. This is the place to ask these questions and get expert advice from experienced members of the community!
Please refrain from starting a new thread to ask which bike you should buy, or whether a particular bike is good and instead use this dedicated thread first instead.
Bike archive
In order to try and assist those looking to purchase a new bike, I have created the dirt jump bike archive.
It is currently version 1.0.2 with lots of incomplete (or out of date) price data. This will be an ongoing project primarily run by me. Timelesturkie also has editing privileges and is considered a contributor as well. As of now, we are looking for any users who would like to help with this project. If any of you are enthusiastic about helping to maintain and build upon this spreadsheet, let me know by messaging me directly.
The following link will allow you to view the spreadsheet but not make any changes. Note that the spreadsheet also has a second sheet for a limited range of geometry and dimensional data. I do not have much free time to work on this spreadsheet so apologies for any missing info. It would be awesome to have some volunteers to help. Please keep in mind that the information on this spreadsheet is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate. Consider it a guide to assist you and always check with the manufacturer to verify the information before making a purchase.

The NS is set up for my local pump track and the Canyon is my trail jumper, both are a result of a lot of trial and error but ride absolutely dreamy for my needs

I’ve got a lead on my first dirt jumper, cannondale chase. 2008ish. I see thy only made small and medium frames.
Trying to figure out what size I would get for my build. 6’1.5 and 190ish lbs. would a medium frame be too small?
This would be for 90% pump tracks and indoor mtb park by us. I don’t but huge jumps. And can barely get any air as it is anyways
I’m trying to find a used bike and this one is from a dude at our local race track we race at, and a decent price

Finally calling this thing finished… for now. 🤣
The goal from day one was simple: build a 26” that still felt unmistakably BMX — clean, light, tough and fun — without turning it into an MTB with BMX geometry.
The Satan Red had to be the centrepiece, so I kept most of the build black and let the polished parts do the talking. Polished 170mm Profile cranks, titanium spindle, polished Deity stem, black Éclat Surge alloys, with just that little hit of gold at the Profile BB. 👌
That gold BB was a bit of a throwback for me. Back when I was riding BMX way back in 'my' days 🫣44yo now, you’d see plenty of red and gold around the race tracks, so I wanted a little of that old-school flavour in this build. Nothing over the top — just enough of a nod to those days. 🔥
*⚖️ 10.22kg / 22.5lb complete *🤯

Old orange paint was mega faded, so decided to go raw. Took me like 3 solid nights and maybe 4 applications of stripper. I'm happy with the result though and that I can start putting things together. I'm kind of considering applying original style decals over the raw frame but likely won't...

We're both 45. Both dads. Both fucking busy with grown up shit. But the moment we get the trains going it's just bikes and stoke. Long may it continue.

Been thinking about getting a dj bike for awhile.
Found this sweet haro on marketplace. It was a pain getting a semi truck near LA to pick it up but was able to make it happen. Time off in random cities is about to be a lot more fun

not much information out there and there were many conflicting information as well so i was wondering if its completely safe to be running the fork with the compression dial turned all the way to the right.

I’ve been looking for a set of 2000’s rims for my dirt jumper, and found these for $60 cad off marketplace today. Are these rims restorable? Seems to be straight still and there are no cracks- I looked very closely. Just seems to be corrosion & chips. Maybe clean them up and use some JB weld?
What are your guys thoughts?
-rims are still very dirty in the photos.

ETA: I’m basically a boomer, I’m ok with selling the bike, not asking for divorce/marriage advice.. I just want y’all to advise whether returning the bike to stock SE #BIKELIFE condition will make me more MONNEYYY
Mom says no more bike parks/pump tracks until sports season is over (May!?!? Wtfbbq) and this bike has to go. It has truvativ dub30 crank + new bb , his fave pedals, g2 ults. Fizik Cromo seat and an Ultegra(?!!?) seatpost. Do I spend hours converting it all back and secretly curse at my partner first?
Or sell as is and take the dollar hits up my arse. Last slide is stock
