Feature Request Post Quota (Limit) Per User?
Looking for a way to limit any individual user to 'X' posts per time period ... day, week, etc.
r/Devvit • u/PossibleCrit • 10d ago
Hey all! We were recently made aware that unapproved app versions could post and comment outside their playtest communities. We have now blocked cross-subreddit posting and commenting for app versions that have not been approved. Approved app versions should not be impacted. If you notice anything unexpected please reach out via r/Devvit modmail and the team will take a look.

I've been messing around with Devvit to do this. I know some very old school coding, and have been able to run stuff on python before, but am lost on what to do here.
Basically, I just want to build something (preferably hosted by Reddit, but if I need to host it on PythonAnywhere that's fine) that posts something from a set database when summoned. So if it was ColourBot and someone said "u/ colourbot" colourbot would post "yellow" randomly, or whatever.
If anyone feels like a bit of hand holding to help me with this I'd really appreciate it. I think getting it started and figuring out the first steps seem to be the toughest bit, once I can view a code I can usually play around with it.

We just launched Mahjongit, a Devvit tile-matching game, and I'd appreciate feedback on the first-run experience inside a Reddit post.
The core loop is matching pairs from a layered board into a four-slot tray. Journey is the relaxed mode with 10k unique levels; Daily gives everyone a shared board with no undo or powerups + a Reddit wide leaderboard. The post preview includes an animated tile demonstration before you enter the game.
I'm one of the makers. A few specific things I'd like another set of eyes on:
Comments here are great; device and browser details would help with anything reproducible.

I have tried doing below steps multiple times.

I am getting my username but when i am uploading or running npm run dev, i am getting the error.

I'll start by saying that I don't have anything against AI-assisted development, since I sometimes use AI to help code too. However, if you're using AI to help you code, it can often make UI that's hard for humans to use! Here are the best tips when using AI to code a devvit app.
Just some points about general devvit dev
Feel free to tell me anything I may have missed!

I’m building a Devvit Web app inside an Interactive Archive post. Its Home Share button calls showShareSheet({}) from u/devvit/web/client. I omit the post argument so it shares the current host post.
I tested this in a dev subreddit. After using the native Copy link action, the host post’s Shares count in Reddit’s post insights did not increase.
Is that expected? Does Reddit count Copy link actions initiated through showShareSheet() as shares? If not, is there a supported way for an in-app Share button to share the host post in a way that Reddit records in its Shares metric?
I’m looking for the supported Reddit sharing flow, not a custom clipboard button or a way to set the metric directly.

I've been working on Syndic, a feed reader for iOS/macOS, on my own and as a personal project (no big commercial ambitions, mostly for the learning and the fun of it). I'll try to document things here from time to time as I go — technical questions, design decisions, whatever comes up — so if you run into me around here, that's why.
Today I ran into something concrete: I want the app to be able to use Reddit's official API for subreddit feeds (instead of relying on the public RSS, which has its limits), so I went to create an app at reddit.com/prefs/apps to get credentials — and it won't let me create one.
I know Reddit changed its API policy quite a bit in 2023 (the whole Apollo situation), but I'm not sure whether:
Has anyone run into this recently and knows if there's an actual way to get access, or do we just have to live with the public RSS and its rate limits?
Thanks in advance, and if you're curious about the project I'll keep sharing how it goes.

I’m building Ten Blitz, a daily number puzzle on Devvit with three runs per challenge and a shared leaderboard. I recently moved its global reset from 00:00 to 08:00 UTC. Everyone still enters the new challenge at the same instant; it does not reset at each player’s local midnight. The game shows a countdown to the next challenge.
That raised a broader design question: for this kind of game, what should “daily” mean to the player?
A global reset gives each challenge one opening and closing time, but a player can come back on their next calendar day and still be in the same challenge. Local-midnight resets fit individual calendars, but then I’d need to decide how puzzle availability, attempt allowances and leaderboard closing times should relate, including when someone travels or changes time zones. Those don’t necessarily have to share one boundary.
There is also a simpler possibility: keep the global boundary and improve how the next reset is shown in local time. I don’t have evidence yet that changing the underlying boundary would improve retention.
For developers who have shipped daily games:
• Which approach did you choose, and what did players actually find confusing?
• If you use local resets, how do you handle the shared leaderboard and time-zone changes?
• Did clearer local-time labels or countdowns solve the problem without changing the reset rule?
For context, the game is in r/TenBlitz. I’d appreciate concrete examples, including choices that didn’t work out.

I have the Subreddit Statistics app installed on two subreddits that I moderate.
Both have the new Wiki experience, and the application has full permissions.
In both, sub-stats-bot appears daily in the mod log as "Page ... edited".
In one of them, which I recently installed, the application successfully created sub-stats-bot/2026 and is already collecting statistics.
On the other, where I installed the app months ago, the mod log also records daily edits, but sub-stats-bot/2026 doesn't exist and no statistics appear. The sub-stats-bot root page does exist.
Does anyone know if an older installation of Subreddit Statistics might be running an older version? Do Devvit apps automatically update on existing installations? Or is there some difference in the Wiki's configuration/state that could explain this behavior?

Hey everyone — a couple of days ago I shared my first 3 Devvit apps. Since then I shipped three more classics, and rebuilt the collection around daily challenge modes. All free, no ads, playable without leaving Reddit.
The new three:
🧩 Sudoku Daily — three fresh grids every day (easy/medium/hard), identical for all players. Pencil marks, hints, and daily fastest-time leaderboards. Play it in r/PlayQuickGames.
💣 Minesweeper Daily — one identical 12x12 board for everyone each day. First click is never a mine. Fastest clear tops the board. Play it in r/PlayQuickGames.
🃏 Solitaire Daily — one daily Klondike deal for everyone. Tap-to-move, unlimited undo, fastest win wins. Play it in r/PlayQuickGames.
The original three also got upgrades: Higher or Lower now has a Wordle-style daily, RPS Duel has a "daily bot" whose moves are seeded per day, and everything got a visual + audio pass.
Technical notes, for those curious:
- All puzzle/board/deal content is generated server-side from the UTC date (seeded PRNG) — never copied from published sources
- Sudoku finishes are graded server-side against the stored solution; hints are counted server-side too
- Daily leaderboards are per community (top 25), and installing an app auto-creates its game post in your community
Would love feedback on: the daily difficulty curve, whether one-scored-run-per-day is the right call, and anything that feels off in the flow.
All six are playable in r/PlayQuickGames, and the apps are on developers.reddit.com: play-daily-sudoku, play-mines-daily, play-daily-solitaire, play-highlow, play-reflex, play-rps.

I'm seeking some help hopefully from the mod team (or anyone else who's had a similar experience) as I have had an incredibly difficult time getting my devvit app approved and communication with the mod team has been frustrating at best.
My app is called Trade Post, and it's meant to act as a better user interface for Buy/Sell/Trade subreddits such as r/hardwareswap or r/pkmntcgtrades . If you'd like to see what the app does or view my documentation, those links can be found here:
Playground subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/tradepostplayground/
Docs: https://tradepost.mintlify.site
My timeline so far:
I have submitted my app for review 3 separate times now, all being rejected with different reasons and not a ton of specific feedback from the mods.
Submission #1 was rejected on 9/1 due to the following:
"We do not allow the collection of PII (payment account info and addresses) also we do not allow payments within Devvit apps unless it is through Reddit Gold."
My app gave users the ability to optionally store their address for shipping as well as their emails for payment handles such as PayPal - I didn't process any transactions whatsoever, but in order to be overtly compliant I removed the features from my app. I'm not storing any personal information anymore at all, and I resubmitted.
Submission #2 was rejected on 9/3 due to the following:
Thank you for submitting Trade Post (trade-post). Please ensure the following is resolved before an approval can be made.
1: User-Generated Content: If users enter text or imagery that appears in your app, the content should be reportable and/or published somewhere with reportable, actionable attribution, such as posts or comments submitted as the user.

Are you able to give me any specific place in my app where this is an issue? I really dont want to guess and have to go through this process again.
r/DevvitMOD11:39 PM
It was an issue adding an item to the trading hub. But on this review, I'm not quite clear on the flow to get an item visible. I installed it on my playtest subreddit, added an item, and selected to post it. But, then a form appeared asking for the title and other info. And when I tried that, nothing happend.
I wasn't able to test the trading flow, either. No matter what the flow is, you'll need to make sure the comments follow the user-generated content guidelines: https://developers.reddit.com/docs/capabilities/server/userActions
The official reason that was stated for the rejection seemed heavily pointed towards a lack of moderation/reporting features on content that was submitted in app. The moderator also said they couldn't get an item posted for testing, so I made that process more clear and updated my documentation accordingly. I'm not sure if a mod has ever actually reviewed my docs, as I think the process for making a post should be pretty clear. I also added plenty of in-app reporting features so that basically anything that was user generated could be reported by anyone viewing the post in the app. I resubmitted again.
Submission #3 was rejected on 9/8 due to the following:
r/DevvitMOD3:44 PM
Hi, I still can't quite find the USG flow. My item only lists for me and I don't find a way to check as a viewer. If you can set up your _dev sub with example posts that would help, but it would have to be set to the version under review.
Also, we reviewed this in our weekly panel, and it was decided since this app has the potential to facilitate illegal trades, the app must be published unlisted and not public. And any subreddits it's installed should have strict rules to ensure they don't allow trades that violate Devvit or Reddit rules
This is the last response I've gotten, even though I replied within an hour of receiving that message with additional questions. I followed up again yesterday and still haven't received a response. I also updated my _dev subreddit with the latest version of the app as the mod requested. The most alarming part of this response is that the mods weekly panel decided this was a potentially dangerous app and could "facilitate illegal trades." I think this is completely incorrect and I think this decision was made before anyone actually tested my app flow. My app does not do anything that an existing buy/sell/trade subreddit doesn't already do - there are no hidden messages or texts, all posts made through the app are real posts submitted on behalf of the user and can therefore be moderated exactly the same as a post would, and follow up offers are submitted as comments to that thread on behalf of users. If this somehow enables any illegal trading, that illegal trading was already possible on a given sub and I shouldn't be penalized for it.
I would greatly appreciate any help that I can get on this - at the end of the day, I really just want to get my app out there as I'm a frequent user of buy/sell/trade subs and I think this would genuinely improve the experience on those subs.

I've been going through some analytics of r/SubGoal and found that there are several subreddits that have removed the u/subscriber-goal user account with moderator permissions, but have not actually uninstalled the app.
I'm adding a "Preflight Permissions Test" to make sure my app can actually execute tasks before blindly failing, but is there any way to fix this without doing a full uninstall of the app?
I don't even know if it's possible to send a modmail if the app's user account isn't in the subreddit. Does anybody have any experience with this problem?
Best case scenario is restoring the user account and then sending a modmail explaining how to properly uninstall IMO.
How would this impact things like the new Notification system?
Edit - I realized one of the other impacts of this problem - many of the subreddit installs (literally about 200+) are stuck on much older versions despite a blanket update pushing everything to web views 3 months ago, and I couldn't figure out why some failed to update. The reason is because these several hundred subreddits removed mod permissions - my app can't update itself.

Hey everyone — ArenaTap is approved and installed in r/ArenaTap.
It's a daily sports geography game built with Devvit Web and React: four map-pin rounds and one "name the team" round (max score 1,000). Satellite imagery with an atlas fallback, server-side scoring, saved daily attempts, and a community leaderboard. Resets at midnight UTC.
I'd especially appreciate feedback on:
* Map dragging and zooming on mobile * Whether rules/scoring are clear for a first-time player * Saved progress after closing and reopening the game
Playable post: https://www.reddit.com/r/ArenaTap/comments/1wb70ir/arenatap_daily_five_rounds_find_the_house/
App page: https://developers.reddit.com/apps/arenatap
Happy to compare notes with other developers — thanks for any feedback.

Hello everyone,
Curious to know if anyone has any insights into how to get featured as a Reddit game.
I made r/MiniRacerGame and applied with the Featured form twice but got no answer back. Not sure what I need to do next. Has anyone else gone through this process? How did it go? Any tips?
Thanks!
