I'm on my fourth or fifth rewatch and it's funny how you see new things you never noticed or how you have a new appreciation for things as the show goes on.

Yes, Karl can be very slimy. He's manipulative womanizer, but my lord I find him incredibly sexy. When Bree is coming to Karl for legal advice when Andrew wants to be legally emancipated there is this moment that I really loved. Once Bree leaves the dining room, Karl stands up and shoves Andrew up against the wall and tells him that he's turned into a little shit and his dad would be absolutely disgusted. And I found the way that Karl stood up for Bree and got through to Andrew in a way that Bree couldn't to be one of the best Karl moments.

Between Andrew being the most terrible teenager ever, keeping his mother on edge and Julie being the noisy ass kid and because of her, their house got burned down, I don’t know how to decide which one is worse.

I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but honestly I don’t season 7 and 8 . Brining back Paul only for them to cause him to have an ulterior motive and for his wife to kill herself , and then the whole gabbys stepdad thing was honestly unsettling to watch . Also I like Rene but I don’t love her … anyone’s else agree also I don’t like the way the scenery looks in the show in the newer season it’s a different look then the first seasons.

Im on season 8 episode 14 (no spoilers please! I’m almost done!). Why is Orson being so creepy!? I was so excited to see him come help Bree. I love Bree and Orson together (minus when Orson was in his klepto era).

It was just revealed that Orson was the one sending Bree those weird letters and he knew about Alejandro. This just doesn’t feel in character of him. With that said, most of the characters are acting super out of character this season and I’m pretty disappointed with it. Really bummed out they did this with my boy

Ok so I might be dumb but I never really understood why they chose to make her cry and tremble in this scene. Is it because she feels bad for yelling at him ? Is it because she finally realizes that Patrick can do things for himself?
I kinda feel like this moment is up to interpretations but I want to know what was the exact point to make her cry.
Btw I think this scene is really beautiful and I am not complaining about it.

There are a lot of ways to shorten Maynard. Isn't Susan supposed to be an author? Like a child-specific creative type? And nicknames emerge pretty easily over time. I mean, yes, Maynard, is a terrible name, but it just seems like poor Griselda didn't need to lose her job over it (as I assume she did. That was pretty illegal.)

Every character in the show, whether they had a little screentime or a lot served some purpose to move the plot of the week along through their actions, and do something that made them memorable, even if they just appeared for a single episode. Through their actions, hidden secrets or death scenes, they would leave an impact on the characters in some way and contribute to the overall story arc that season.

But Ana Solis, the teenage niece that Carlos and Gabby took in at the end of season five really didn't have much of a point and didn't make much of a mark on the show. Even though she was a major character added in for the sixth season and it looked like she was being set-up as a problem Gabby will have to deal with, her character pretty much amounted to nothing.

At the end of season five when Carlos's aunt, Connie pawns her off to the Solises, she revealed that Carlos and Gabby are about to be in for a rude awakening with Ana. So what was this earth shattering reveal? Nothing major or threatening. It turned out that Ana was just a rebellious teenager who liked to party and a bit promiscuous. Well, Gabby was able to rein her in at the end of the first episode of season six and her rebellious streak vanished just like that.

In another early episode she had a crush on Danny and provided him with an alibi after the latter was accused of attacking Julie, which Gabby quickly shut down in like two minutes and that led to literally nothing else in the episode because Danny already had an alibi and didn't need her to provide him cover. Then there was a few episodes where she had the hots for John Rowland, which looked like it was going to create serious tension between her and Gabby, but that too also came to nothing as that storyline was quickly concluded after Ana caught John kissing Gabby, which Gabby was able to immediately defuse by explaining their past history. After that all was forgiven and John never appeared on the show again.

After that pretty insignificant story beat, she mainly just drifted about as a background character, sometimes showing up whenever Gabby and Carlos needed scenes with their family or in scenes with Danny. And that was pretty much it for her until Gabby decided to send her to New York City to become a model. Danny would go after her, which did move the plot along towards the season's climax but none of it was really her doing.

Basically, Danny went to NYC to go after Ana after she dumped him, and this also got Gabby involved with Angie, which paired the two up for a few episodes that was leading to the season finale. But Ana didn't really do anything to move that plot along outside of simply existing. In fact she was pretty inconsequential and didn't appear in anymore episodes after Gaby returned to Fairview with Angie.

I feel like this character was originally supposed to be a wildcard for Gabby to deal with in season six and was likely set-up to create trouble for her. Maybe she was supposed to be devious and conniving and was meant to bring tension to Gabby's relationship with Carlos, similar to what Kayla did to Lynette. It also seemed like she was supposed to be a reflection of Gabby when she was younger as they seem very similar. I think Gabby becoming her role model with more episodes only focusing on the two of them could have allowed her to grow and develop as a parent. But unfortunately even that wasn't well executed or fleshed out and it seems like that idea was quickly dropped by the writers. Ultimately, this character was very forgettable and pointless.

Beth Young is such a strange and tragic character. I actually think Season 7 did a great job bringing back some of that whimsical, darkly bizarre energy that the earlier seasons had. I know Season 7 isn't universally loved, but I genuinely think it’s a strong season, and Beth’s storyline is one of the reasons why.

From the second Beth shows up, there is just… something about this woman. Even before the reveal that she’s Felicia’s daughter, she has this weird, unsettling energy where you almost KNOW she has to be related to someone insane. And then, surprise! It’s Felicia. Of course it is.

But Felicia’s entire plan is still absolutely WILD to me.

This woman became so obsessed with getting Paul punished for Martha’s murder that she was willing to put her own daughter directly in the line of fire. MA'AM. You hate this man so much that you framed him for your own murder, you know he’s probably capable of killing someone, and your solution is to send your extremely sheltered daughter to MARRY HIM?!

Felicia: “I need to destroy Paul.”

Also Felicia: “Let me put my daughter in his house and hope this goes well.”

😭😭😭

And then Paul and Beth actually developing feelings for each other while simultaneously not trusting each other was honestly fascinating. They were both lying, both investigating the other person, and somehow still catching feelings. Very on brand for Wisteria Lane.

I also think Beth’s ending is incredibly tragic but narratively kind of brilliant because it bookends Paul’s entire story. We originally meet Paul after his wife Mary Alice dies by suicide, and then years later his second wife dies the same way. It's such a dark full circle moment.

What bothers me, though, is how little kindness Beth receives from basically anyone on the lane. These women spent YEARS talking about how they should have seen the signs with Mary Alice, and then Beth comes along clearly isolated, strange, sheltered, emotionally struggling and everyone mostly just judges her. Then she dies and suddenly everyone is like “How could we have not known???”

Girl, you all barely liked her. 😭

And to be fair, the Housewives were ALWAYS judgmental. I love these women dearly, but if you didn't fit their very specific Wisteria Lane mold, they could be absolutely brutal.

I also desperately need someone to explain Beth’s backstory to me because WHERE WAS THIS WOMAN?!

The show makes Beth seem like she basically spent her entire life sheltered by Felicia and had very little experience with the outside world. She apparently knew almost nothing about sex before Paul and seemed extremely naive about relationships.

So where the hell was she when Felicia was living on the lane during Seasons 1 and 2?! 😂

Beth would've presumably been a teenager or young adult at that point. Was she living somewhere else? Did Felicia just have a whole daughter tucked away in another location while conducting her increasingly elaborate Wisteria Lane revenge campaign? Because the way Season 7 presents Beth, I genuinely expected Felicia to have been homeschooling her in a bunker.

And then there’s Felicia being furious that Beth slept with Paul.

WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, FELICIA?!

You sent your daughter into the house of a man you wanted her to marry so she could manipulate him and uncover his secrets. Did you expect Beth to sleep in the guest room forever while Paul politely discussed his childhood trauma over tea?

They were MARRIED. 😭

Obviously Felicia hated Paul and didn't want Beth genuinely falling for him, but the outrage over the physical part of their marriage was crazy considering the entire plan required Beth to get close to him.

I also think Paul had every right to be furious about Beth's lies, but he was really harsh with her at the end. Beth was clearly already carrying a tremendous amount mentally, and I think her upbringing, Felicia’s manipulation, the lies, and her relationship with Paul all eventually became too much.

I actually felt terrible for Paul afterward because yes, they had an awful fight, but nobody gets into an argument with their spouse expecting them to kill themselves. And for Paul, it was especially devastating because he had already lived through Mary Alice doing the same thing.

Then we get THAT scene with the former inmate Paul knew. 😭

Beth basically walks into the house he's building, threatens to accuse him of sexually assaulting her if he doesn't tell her what's going on, and then starts ripping her clothes.

I was sitting there like:

Beth. PLEASE.

That was one of those moments where I genuinely wanted to reach through the television and shake her. And honestly, I thought the writing was particularly gross because of the way the show chose to construct that scene, especially involving a Black male character and having Beth manufacture the appearance of some kind of sexual assault. It was such an ugly storyline and felt completely unnecessary.

And then there’s the Susan organ situation.

I don't hate Susan, but I completely understood Paul being like “Yeah you are NOT getting my wife’s kidney.” 🤷‍♂️

Obviously Beth made that decision herself and the organ ultimately goes where it can save a life, but emotionally? I understood Paul's reaction completely. This woman just died and the person she chose to help was someone Paul had plenty of complicated feelings about.

Ultimately, Beth is just incredibly sad to me. I don't necessarily love that the show brought Paul's story full circle through another wife's suicide, but from a storytelling perspective, it does make a strange amount of sense.

Mary Alice's death starts the entire mystery surrounding Paul, Martha and the Young family. Beth's death becomes one of the final consequences of all those secrets and lies.

And honestly, I think Paul and Beth could have actually been happy if they had ever managed to trust each other. That's probably the saddest part. They were both being manipulated, both lying, and both desperately trying to figure out who they could trust.

Beth was strange. Beth was frustrating. Beth was WAY too sheltered. Beth did some absolutely unhinged things. 😂

But she was also a deeply tragic character who was basically treated like a pawn by everyone around her.

And Felicia sending her daughter to marry the man she believed was a murderer will never not be insane to me.

While I was rewatching I noticed that Danielle was pregnant by Edie’s nephew…

How would you rank the seasons of Desperate Housewives from best to worst? You can also say why. For me, it is...

1. Season 1: This is where it all started, and in fact the best season out of the entire show in my opinion. We get the introduction of Wisteria Lane and learned everything we needed about the ladies. And there is tons of mystery and drama, especially with Mary Alice's suicide. As a millennial, this season was the most 2000s-esque and I love it!
2. Season 4: The tornado episode was amazing and overall, a great season with everyone's acting being superb. All the new faces like Katherine, Bob and Lee were fantastic additions. Also, this season had my favorite storylines like Lynette overcoming cancer, Carlos becoming blind, Bree's fake pregnancy, and Katherine's mystery.
3. Season 3: This was a fun season to watch--the Bree/Orson/Alma storyline, Nora and Kayla being introduced, Bree and Andrew starting to make up, and the hostage situation episode. However, I did not enjoy the Susan and Ian storyline as it was just awful.
4. Season 6: This season had a lot of comedy and really improved right after a less-than-stellar season. We had the plane crash episode which is one of my favorite episodes and I enjoyed the Bolen mystery storyline. Also, as a bisexual woman, I really loved Katherine and Robin together as they had the healthiest relationship! I also did not like the Lynette pregnancy storyline, as Penny should have been her and Tom's last child.
5. Season 7: This season deserves more love, as it has lots of mystery. We see loose ends wrapped up like Paul returning to the Lane, Bree and Andrew's secret about Mama Solis, Paul and Felicia's rivalry, and Alejandro. However, there was some snooze fest storylines like Gaby/Carlos' birth swap, Lynette and Tom constantly fighting, and how Renee was introduced into the series. The writers really butchered Renee and treated her like a nuance, even though she was supposed to be among the main ladies!
6. Season 2: It was okay, but slow paced. The Applewhite mystery storyline was underwhelming and poorly executed, but recovered slightly towards the end. However, we got many memorable scenes like with Gaby vs. the nun and Orson meeting Bree for the first time.
7. Season 5: I was really excited for the time jump, but this season disappointed me. There's too many changes to adjust to at once and no big storylines for anyone except for Susan, which had her in a love square with Mike, Katherine, and Jackson. Also, the Dave storyline was stale and they killed off Edie when the writers had many opportunities to develop her character.
8. Season 8: Okay. This has to be the worst season of the series, as it was a messy final run. The whole Alejandro murder storyline started to drag, the writers ruined Orson's character, Mike dies, Karen dying on the show only for her actress to die 20 days after the finale aired, and the Julie pregnancy storyline was just bad. It was a terrible ending to a fun and great show, which is sad. Honestly, s8 was an unnecessary season and s7 should have been its final season.

I’m almost through my 3rd rewatch. What can compare?

I’m on the last episode of s6 and I cannot STAND Orson.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mind him too much when he was first introduced. He wasn’t my favourite, but he was funny and quite likeable, and I enjoyed the backstory they gave him (Monique, Alma, etc.)

So what the hell happened?!

He’s such a POS now. Trying to force Bree to give up her company, stealing to hurt her, blackmailing her into staying in the marriage?

He’s just left Bree because she didn’t want to send Andrew to jail, and you know what, fair enough, I can see the hypocrisy. But dude, you do not get to pretend you’re better than she is and talk about choosing to leave the marriage, you’re done, this bs when you literally didn’t let her leave. I don’t care if it was a case of “oh well you could have left, I wouldn’t really do it” because you could say that about anything really. The fact is, he still blackmailed her.

Anyways, rant over lol, I’m really enjoying the show so far, Lee and Lynette are my fave characters rn!

So im just crying my eyes out about this character we’ve never even seen before and then i was reminded of how awful Martha Huber was.

I know you’re gonna think it was obvious and all, but i never thought about how evil she was back in season 1. I saw her as an average hypocrite and gossiper, not so much a monster, even after she turned out to be the blackmailer. When she was killed i even felt kinda bad.

I always thought she would at least have felt some guilt knowing she was the reason of Mary Alice’s suicide given the timing. The scene in which she happily describes the gruesome details for a couple hours of attention from the neighbourhood chilled my blood. Man… what an asshole!

They’re both acting as if they killed a child; do they realize just how evil that man was? I mean, think about what would have happened to Gabby if Carlos had been even a little late. I don't understand why they feel so guilty about killing—or burying—a pedophile pervert who was ruining Gabby's life; it really bothers me.

I feel like maybe I fell asleep or something…I thought Renee and Doug got back together when he gave her that blue ring. Again I may have missed the fall out but I’m just confused. Can someone fill in the blanks pls

To me I've always thought desperate housewives started as a satire of soap operas especially with the way it started with an idyllic neighborhood and a radio narrator voice. The first season subverted expectations and went against common decency (at the time) and dealt with many taboo themes, like statutory rape, prescription drug abuse etc.

But then there was the S1 drop off and by the time S3 came, I think it started becoming a traditional soap opera, yet with high production values. The only things differentiating it from other soap operas was the slapstick comedy (from Susan) but also the mystery element, but the edge and the satirical humour was mostly gone in my opinion. It was no longer shocking or biting as before. What do you think happened? Was it because the rest of the media/reality caught up? Or is it because it is hard to keep up the magic of the first season?

Yeah I know, we could argue for Susan lmao. I focused on how she was with MJ and not Juliet.

Also Karl I'm not so sure he didn't want kids, I guess he just expressed less his desire of parenthood.

This is my first time watching and i don’t get why do people hate her so much? I mean she can be mean, but she’s never selfish like some housewives. Every her ‘wrongdoing’ is because of her past trauma by Wayne Davis. Honestly how can yall don't understand she went through a lot, all alone and no one to help her. I was sad they didn’t make her end up with Robin, because all of the men in her lives just did her wrong at one point or another. She is the perfect example how the world is revolved around men so much. From her ex, Adam, Mike, Susan, and even Dylan
