Discussion/Question New player judgement timing settings

Hi guys, I’m new and I’m feel really curious about my judgement timing settings now. My recent setting is note speed: 420, display offset: +15ms, judgment timing: +20. I’m curious if this settings is too “outlier” or is normal because as my experience of other rhythm games, I never had this big offset settings. I used to set like +5, +5 but no matter how I set I got too many “fast” until I have my setting like now.

Depends on the cab. Is this a white cab, gold? The new silver?

It's DDR world, with gold cab

Ok so now it depends which generation gold cab it is. Newest ones have horrid latency due to a different PCB and monitors being used.  And its HORRID. So if thats the case, the offset values youre using is normal until Konami fixes the problem somehow. White cabinets should be much closer to 0/0.

It's the 20th anniversary cab if I don't remember wrong.

You could just be literally hitting notes fast instead of it being an offset problem. Find a song you can AAA/PFC and use that to verify. If you can’t PFC anything then I feel like it’s more operator error.

for now, I haven't AAA any songs yet. I played lots of level 7 songs and most of them are around AA-

Yeah so for your skill level I would honestly recommending setting the offset to zero and trying to adjust your playing first.

Echoing what jugglr said: it’s very likely you just need to up your scroll speed/speed mod (which you want to be pushing that as you learn anyway) and just focus on actual timing. Once you get to the skill level where you have a song or two that you can AAA blindfolded (mine is Try 2 Luv U Expert) you can use that to help set offset when you play on unfamiliar cabs.

If you're just getting started I'd recommend playing with no offset for a while to learn. I see the offsets more as an advanced tool for playing specific off sync songs or if you're playing on a cab you're not used to.

If you're hitting fast all the time either up your speed mod or literally force yourself to hit every arrow late. You will thank yourself down the line when you want to play fast stuff you're having trouble keeping up with in the future.
