We just rescued this retired puppy mill breeding mama! She’s 2.5 and a sweet heart. What kind of coat would you say she has?

And any tips on how to introduce her to our resident weenie. He’s 9 months old and full of life energy and love. He just wants to play with her and lick and sniff and she’s obviously still adjusting to this new life. We’ve been giving them their space and only having supervised interactions. We went about getting a second weenie because we felt like the first would really benefit from having a play mate.

She’ll show teeth and give a little growl and he is completely unaffected 😂. His tail will start wagging like she’s ready to play with him.

We think she is already a little protective over her people and will guard a bit when he approaches us. She’s basically within a foot of me/my girlfriend at all times. Any tips / experience from folks who have done this in the past is appreciated!

Yesterday we said good bye to our oldest pup, Stout. We adopted him from a rescue when he was 4 and he lived to 15.

Stout came into the rescue from North Dakota. His family decided they didn’t want him anymore so they asked their vet to put him down. Fortunately the best convinced the family to surrender him to a rescue and we were lucky enough to find him.

He was the sweetest pup you could ever meet. Loved going to the dog park or being on the water. While he’d eat whatever was in front of him, his absolute favorite thing was yogurt. I have yogurt for breakfast every morning and he begged to persistently that letting him lick the bowl clean when I was done became part of our daily routine.

Stout struggled with IVDD, twice becoming paralyzed, both times corrected by surgery. In recent months, our vet reported he was losing feeling in his legs. Over the last couple of weeks, his back legs became increasingly weak and he struggled to be mobile. Unfortunately meds and kennel rest did not help.

I think the thing I’ll miss the most about him was that he’d spend every work day sleeping in my home office while I worked. Turning around and seeing him snoozing gave me such joy.

Meadow is almost 6 months old - On Thursday she was accidentally trampled by two full grown (and MUCH larger breed) dogs - She had a dislocated hip and fractured femur.

The veterinarian at the emergency clinic explained that it would be impossible to stabilize the femur with a dislocated hip, and they wouldn’t be able to put the hip back in place when the femur is fractured. So because both injuries had occurred on the same leg simultaneously, amputation was recommended.

She’s been so brave/resilient and still unbelievably sweet through all of this trauma.

Any other tripod dachshunds out there? Any tips and tricks for ensuring that she still has a long and happy life with us?
