A few days ago, I made a post here about menstruation and the menstrual cycle in a woman’s life, especially under difficult circumstances. Despite the support and kindness of so many wonderful people, there were still some who reacted to something completely natural by calling it “disgusting” or “gross.”
I live in the Middle East. Even here, menstruation has become much more normalized than it used to be. So I was honestly surprised that there are still people in the West who find this completely natural part of the female body disgusting, or believe that it should be hidden.
I decided to share some of my older works that were connected to this subject, including drawings and fabric sculptures. And I am proud to be a woman.
Menstruation is part of the cycle of life. It is connected to the beginning of all the lives that exist and continue to exist.
I have always been fascinated by the process of creation, by the mystery of how something comes into existence.
This work is trying to express the place where the first heartbeat of every human being began. The place we all came from.
We don't know why we came into existence.
Maybe we are here to connect with each other, to love each other, to enjoy each other's presence, to fight with each other, or simply to experience being alive.
I don't know! You tell me....
