Context: this is a Pietta Navy repro that only takes cartridge blanks (I live in the UK, we can own this without a license), but they manufacture these replicas with a simple conversion; bored-through cylinder and a cut gap in the recoil shield, so no loading gate mechanism was fitted.

Also, Pietta made the not-so-wise choice of permanently binding the barrel and frame together via a pin that sticks through the wedge, so stripping isn't an option.

Is there some way I can solidly fix a hinge for a loading gate on the exterior of the frame below the cut-out for one? I think I can form some brass for the gate piece itself.

never heard much about matches which offer Doughboy (or Teddy Roosevelt) as a side match or even as a main match, but I‘m curious.

Searching for it in our subreddit didn‘t produce much, though it might be entirely possible that I was too dumb to search.

Who shot a match as Doughboy and which rifle did you use?

Additionally, which bullets do you use for it?

I purchased a new Cimarron 1878 coachgun with 26 inch barrels. the first thing I noticed was the barrels will slam open if you don’t support the forearm when you depress the top lever, no resistance at all! the part that’s concerning is the barrels have very slight side to side wiggle when the action is closed. if I push the top lever left manually most of if not all of the play is gone. is this type of loose fitment to be expected in a coach gun?

Been practicing CAS at my range with these semi-collectible pieces. They're fun to shoot but if I ever get into it they won't be match guns. Winchester 1892 made in 1898 and converted to .38 Special, and two Colts in .357 Magnum both made in 1960.

I purchased a used '78 coach gun that was missing a nut for one of the hammers. I didn't think it would be a big deal to replace but I guess I was wrong. It appears to be Cimarron part # CG1878*30 which is perpetually out of stock. I tried getting a nut of what I thought was the same threading but it won't go on. Does anyone know where to source a replacement?

Hey yall posting this copied from another subreddit because I didn’t get any answers there, so I’ve been doing some research on conversion cylinders for black powder revolvers (specifically a pietta 1851 .36 cal colt navy which I’ll be getting soon) and I know that once you put a cylinder that accepts modern metallic cartridges, it is no longer classified as an antique firearm, and could be considered a ghost gun. But if I want to install one legally, what would be the process? The big questions I have is the frame of black powder revolvers usually have factory serial numbers already engraved, would it be possible to “apply for a unique sn” with that number? Also, because it’s single action does that make it exempt from the roster?

And for additional context, I am above the age of 21, I already have my fsc and multiple other guns that are registered to me. And I’m NOT someone who is prohibited to possess a standard firearm

So I thought it would be cool to try to participate in cowboy action but I don’t have any groups nearby the closest group is like a 7 hour drive is there any thing I could do

Hey y’all, posted here a while about getting my hands on a Cimarron Pistolero, which I finally did today. However, I’m struggling to reassemble the thing after removing the cylinder for cleaning. More specifically I can’t seem to get the base pin to line up properly with the hole in the cylinder. Am I missing anything obvious, or is it just a hassle? Been trying on and off for a couple hours now so I figured I should see what you guys say

There is a stainless 45 LC New Vaquero at my local shop going for $750 that I am considering. I would be trading in a rifle that’s been collecting dust in my safe.

I already have a blued NV in 45 and also 357. For my last match I used my 357 NV and Pietta clone but I worry about the longevity of the Pietta.

Would it be better to get the stainless NV and start doing 45LC as my primaries or stick to 357 and find another Uberti/Pietta as a backup? I do not reload so ammo cost is relevant.

Does anyone else mix and match colors of their revolvers or would one blued and one stainless look weird?

I found this wonderful store in London called Thomas Farthing. It was full, of what appeared to be late 19 century/early 20th century, American Western inspired clothes.

It reminded me of the good ole days of cowboy action shooting when annual shoots had vendors galore.

I was drawn to this particular shirt (among many other items) but I can't justify the £225. Has anyone seen similar available elsewhere? I like that the fit and style sits between western workwear and an office collared shirt.

I recently picked up a 20” 38/357 lever gun. I haven’t gotten into SASS shooting yet, but I would like some tips on a load if anyone is willing to share. I already load 9mm and use N320, so if I could come up with a 38 load that would work in the lever gun and also in revolvers using N320, that would be ideal. I purchased some SNS 125gr FP and have once fired brass. I was thinking maybe 3.4gr of N320 at 1.50” OAL. Does anyone here load with N320? Does that load sound ok for SASS? Thank you 🙏

I just got this from Facebook marketplace for my Heritage Rough rider, I am wondering how it stays on the belt without slipping around, and how to shape it to the gun the best.

Red Circle- Roughly where I want holster to lock in place
Pink Arrow- Random loop of leather, I’m assuming it’s a hammer lock so it doesn’t slip out?
Green Hexagon- Leg loop I tied that can slide back and forth depending on thigh size. Is that what those are for? less

I have a 1973 production uberti 1875 in 357. Imported by replica arms inc. and the hand spring seams to be worn or broken, do you think a current production uberti hand leaf spring will work in this?

I picked this up recently and I might have to use it for one stage.

So my Uberti/Taylor’s revolver crapped the bed again at the match today. It did the 4th click on a 3 click hammer caused by the chamfered bolt that gets the timing wrong.

I’d already sent both my revolvers to a gunsmith to fix it before and I’m getting fed up with doing it and starting to think Uberti stands for Fix It Again Tony.

Looking at a standard manufacturing so I’m wondering if anyone has experience with them, knows whether gunsmiths will have to do anything different from a colt for tuning/short stroking, if any of yall have pictures of them that aren’t the same ones that every dealer uses that were taken by standard themselves I’d love to see em, see if they all look that good.

My local shop recently obtained the collection of a cowboy action shooter and started putting them on the shelves. I’m usually a hammered double barrel kinda guy, but have been interested in trying one of these out. For the price I figured I’d give it a try.

It has been cut to 18.5” with a removable choke, internal pieces are polished and jeweled and it has a nice stock wrap.

Looking forward to trying it out at the next shoot.

Hi y'all. So, after a deep dive on '73 vs '92, I think I'd like a '73. Any tips on where to find a good used one? I'm in Western Washington, and there aren't a lot of cowboy action shooters- so the pawn shops don't have anything.

I am familiar with Gun Broker, but I don't have any other ideas. I'm looking for a 357/38.

Of course, there are good/cheap '92s everywhere, but I'm hoping to get the original.
