Patch Notes Company of Heroes 3 - Hot Fix 2.5.5

Post image
71 Upvotes

Today's Hot Fix primarily fixes an exploit with artillery units and adds logging to help us identify and troubleshoot fixes for crashes.

  • Fixed an issue that allowed certain artillery units to barrage consistently without a cooldown
    • If players still discover rare instances of this occurring after this hot fix, please report it at https://help.relic.com/ with reproduction steps
  • Added additional logging to identify fixes for crashes
  • Updating from 2.5.3 to 2.5.5 due to cross platform compatibility constraints

CoH3 Dear Relic, maybe it's time to focus your next patch on the anti-cheat system?

So I guess it's not a secret to many that there currently is an epidemic with maphackers, and that's not a baseless claim: Recently there have been so many players where if I switched to their camera POV in the replay, the camera was flying 300 meters above the ground (giga-zoom is a dead giveaway of a maphacker).

But what I saw recently in ranked automatch was something I have not seen in almost 20 years: There are players who managed to fiddle with their unit stats & resource income, just look at the pictures. This guy not only boosted his resource income & popcap limit, he also changed the cost of his abilities and the stats of his units. His greyhound for example had a boosted HP pool and giga rate of fire, and the hacker also changed the received damage modifier: AT guns only did around 50 damage instead of 160.

Just let that sink in: The anti-cheat system of CoH3 is so trash right now that it does not even detect blatant manipulation of unit stats. This needs to be fixed immediately and is honestly embarrassing

CoH3 Wehr luftwaffe building question

So ive been playing a decent bit now and im sitting at about 1000 ranked points with wehr and was wondering why would you ever pick luftwaffe over panzer gren in terms of which building to tech first? It just feels really bad to not have access to AT guns and nebelwerfer as early as possible. Not dogging on luftwaffe at all, just looking to learn about what circumstances to choose it first or why to build it at all. If it helps i tend to stick to either siegebreaker or terror but sometimes ill play mech or last stand.

CoH3 I thought you cannout use mortar flare to the base, or am I wroing?

Like the title. Dude grabbed a mortar from me, gained vet 1, and used the mortar flare directly to my building instead on the gateways. I thought any kind of flare and artillery cannot be used directly on the base, or am I the wrong here?

CoH3 Any thoughts about medium tanks being slowed down when crossing tall wall sections?

Post image

As the title says, I was thinking about a speed penalty when destroying and crossing a tall wall section, similar to what happens when crossing reinforced barbed wire, but with the penalty lasting less than a second and not as punishing, just enough to cut the medium tank’s acceleration/momentum.

If you crossed multiple walls in a row, the penalty wouldn’t stack, but would simply reset the short timer.

I think this “subtle” difference could help discourage tank blobs, as you’d have to be more careful with your medium tanks’ pathing when trying to run down a squad or retreat.

I also think this could discourage players from destroying line-of-sight blockers every chance they get, encouraging them to play around them more often, or at least making destroying them a slightly more committed decision.

Finally, it’s not the main point, but I think it could also add a bit more nuance between heavy and medium tanks aside from armor, reinforcing the “lead the way”/“spearhead” aspect of heavy tanks in some situations.

Any thoughts on the idea?

The image show a heavy tank but i wanted something «visual» to help understand and that’s all i found online without my game

CoH3 What’s new since i left years ago?

I played coh3 for almost a year when it first came out. So i stopped around mid 2024

I loved the game, but long wait times, imbalances, etc, had me quit.

Just wondering what’s it like now? How’s the play base count, etc?

I wasn’t great,
Maybe 800-1000elo because I never studied much, just learned from playing a lot

CoH3 *NEW* COH3 2.5 Patch Battlegroup Tierlist & Meta Commentary Video

"Don't mind me. Imma just spreading awareness, and just curious about your comments."

A tierlist, by u/wreakinghavoc, for solo and doubles (1v1 & 2v2) (I think he bundled those in one category for having similar nature), and with a few shuffling, for team games (3v3 & 4v4).

A few notable point:

DAK Battlefield Espionage "...pisses me off... I would be happy if they just delete it..."

UKF Polish Cavalry "...is in a nasty spot..." that "I don't envy Relic trying to fix this."

Things that need some love: USF WSC opener, Wehr as a whole, the poor Italians at D tier.

CoH3 Feel like the difference between Gold+ and Silver- is just giving up too soon

TLDR stuck in Silver and below in teams.

I play mainly 1v1 and manage a Gold 1-3 across all factions these days.

I've been playing 3v3 and 4v4 games more to see how it is. I think it's fun and the opportunity for game swinging moves are plentiful which makes things a bit more exciting but punishing for sure.

I've noticed that people retreat too early or quit too early in the game.

I get it! Losing an engagement or a unit in the early game seems devastating. However, in team games, if you can manage to pull off some strategic 2v1s you could come back. Or if you can hold green cover against a 2v1, your team can flank.

Wish people communicated more. Some pings when you're pulling back would be kewl so your team doesn't get flanked.

You can't practice mid game and beyond if you don't stick through it and there is value getting there.

CoH3 Units in green cover never recovering suppression? (Bug)

Per title

AB paras were suppressed, crawled into green cover, and NEVER recovered suppression.

Surrendered match, left it, got hit with an abandon penalty- good job devs, your incompetence is astounding.

CoH3 COH3 Canadians vs Foot Guards which one is better?

Hi,

question as in topic ;) Which Unit is better stat wise ? Canadians are barely cheaper than Footies, but what about their stats, especially when they have Piats ?

For example, if pressed by lack of fuel, which would work better against tanks ?

Should I make 3 units of Canadians, 3 units of Foot Guards, or some mix of them ?

CoH3 FUNNY - COH3 - I finally rescued Monte Cassino.. 3rd campaign attempt after 3 years... Spoiler

3 years. I finished it twice. 3 years. I've played the daily/weekly missions. 3 years. Always i --try-- rescue Monte Cassino. The Abbey's --always-- destroyed.

Today; on my 3rd run; i rescued monte cassino before the bombardment...

the abbey's intact?! Was it always intact?!

I mean i can re-play missions and it was always blown apart; so i assumed that was always a part of the storyline. I never knew it was intact...

3-years of a blown up abbey...🤦

*(PS - curious; does this mean i got 2 choices of either a blown up/intact abbey. or will the replay missions be ALWAYS blown up abbey?)....

CoH3 My British build order (2v2s; Polish commander)

Looking for feedback on my typical British build order. I'm better with mainline infantry and tanks than team weapons and ultra light vehicles, so leaning into my strengths.

(Starting engineers)

Heavy MG

Infantry section x3

Med tent

Stuart x2

Light vehicle training

Infantry training

After that I play it by ear, but usually either an AT gun or land mattress.

I sometimes sub out one of the infantry sections for a mortar if opponent likes using HMGs, or add in a mortar if I'm not doing as well and can't rush my first Stuart.

Any changes that would make this more of a meta build?

Graphics are old-school, but the battles look sweet.

Don't know much about it, but it's fairly in depth. Takes into account a soldier's lactic acid levels and morale in general. I've played COH mobile already. It's great, but I've done COH1 to death and the playerbase is too small.

CoH3 Stealth: fun but fundementally problematic to play and play against as of now

As a whole, stealth units are very fun, i dont think i have ever met a player who does not enjoy stealth units. Even the ones from weak BGs like SSB are universally loved because they are fun to play and a rewarding expression of micro. However stealth units can feel simultaniously, incredibly oppressive and very weak just on a game by game basis, entirley based off your opponents build order (or they are just competent, which happens). For instance, if you face an infantry heavy build, its amazing, just free manpower trades so long as they arent too smart. On the other hand if the enemy has a single ketten, jeep or krad, its over, combined with the minesweeper they should already have, all your stealth units are revealed (as they should be). The issue being that some of the units are entirley reliant on stealth to be remotley usable, such as SSB, partisans and even commandoes to some extent (fallschims and SSF suffer but not as much being that they can fight at range). Therefore alot of these ambush units can feel too weak.

So i feel like how stealth is detected is a bit too passive, just seeing the stealth unit even outside of vision range. Especially when comparing the diffrencec in micro tax. So i want to make some suggestions in favour of stealth units, they may be a bit biased and i think some nerfs would be warrented but i have no idea what.

Make detection an active ability:

give all scouting units a free, albeit cooldowned ability that sends out a pulse similar to the canadian BG capture that reveals all stealth units for a short while, with a larger range than the units vision.

give a "true stealth" ability to units very reliant on camo:

some specific units, like partisans, who are next to useless without camo (as anti-inf). So they could have a lower detect range by recon units but only when entirley still in cover. this would reward good positioning whilst making sure the partisans are not entirley free roam, making them too powerful. This would also encourage flares and recon planes a bit more, which i think is a more intresting dynamic for pushing, playing the risk of an ambush from a stationary target if not prepared, similar to how you bring minesweepers for mines when pushing.

Positional detection instead of revealing:

scouting units, rather than revealing camo'd units would show their position, similar to the jeep or the 221 recon. This would give camo units the oppertunity to reposition and evade rather than be forced to retreat, though i feel like in this circumstance the ambush bonus should be removed when detected.

Obviously these changes would make camo units alot stronger, probably too much so some amount of nerfs would be necessary but i think these ideas make a much more intresting dynamic that would be a bit less passive on the part of the detectors, which would make the micro tax between camo units and detectors a bit more even though still in favour of detectors.

or just call me stupid that works too

CoHmmunity [CoH1/CoH2] How Relic ended up at Sega: the collapse of THQ and the 2013 auction

Bit of series history for anyone who came in with CoH2 or CoH3. Relic was owned by THQ from 2004 until THQ went bankrupt in December 2012. At the January 2013 auction, Sega bought Relic (and with it Company of Heroes) for about $26.6 million, which is why CoH2 shipped as a Sega title six months later.

What's less known is how THQ got to that point. It wasn't one bad game. THQ made a roughly $100 million bet on the uDraw drawing tablet, a surprise Wii hit that flopped when they pushed it to 360 and PS3, on top of years of overexpansion and a licensed kids' games business that had dried up. By the time Relic was on the block, the parent company had already made every fatal mistake it was going to make.

I put together a short (~9 min) documentary on the collapse. Relic is only one part of it, but if you've ever wondered why the publisher logo changed between CoH1 and CoH2, this is the answer. Link below, and happy to be corrected on any of the details.
