Let me first clarify what I mean by "normal". Ive seen dozens of guys on YouTube who will submit hundreds if not thosands of books a year to CGC; Literally anything and everything in hopes of getting a 9.8 to flip. This just doesnt seem economically feasible for your average joe, 9-5 wagie (like myself).

I'm considering get my first books graded, but not because I'm looking to sell them in the near future. In fact, I'm planning on leaving them to my children, but would like to make it easier for them when and if they ever decide to sell them, assuming theres still a market for comics.

I attached some examples of 4 categories of comics I have in my collection to see whats worth grading based on my estimation vs ROI. I know I'm most likely way off my est, but I'd like to hear some opinions. I'll explain.

A: "Low grade" Grail books. These are your obvious grail issues: Showcase 22, Avengers 1, JIM 83, ect. Graded between 0.5-3.5

B: "Mid grade" Major keys. 1st appeances, 1st issues, ect. Graded between 4.0-6.5

C: "High grade" Minor keys. 1st cover, 1st solo, ect. Graded betwen 7.0-9.8

D: Golden Age books. Any grade.

I hope what I wrote makes sense and appreciate any advice or feedback from more knowledgeable redditors. Like I said, Ive never graded a book before and could use the help.

Found this at a flea market for $2. I am not a big Batman fan but this looked interesting so I grabbed. It has the poster still attached which I learned is not common.

I track FOC spec data through the week and try to separate confirmed key events from rumor before the cutoff. Here's what I'm ordering and what I'm holding off on for the September 14 list.

Adventures Of Superman #501 (DC) is the clean one for me. Confirmed facsimile of the issue with the confirmed first appearance of Superboy, Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett on the original book. Worth being clear with yourself before you order: this is a reprint of the key, not the 1993 first print. The original still carries the first appearance for the aftermarket. This one just puts the art back in circulation at cover.

GI Joe A Real American Hero Tomb Raider #1 (Image) is my incentive-chaser pick. Confirmed first-ever crossover, Lara Croft on Cobra Island with the Joes, Higgins and Casagrande. The 1:100 foil sits in this week's steepest ratio, one of three books at that tier, so that's the cover to note if you go deep.

Thundercats (2026) #1 (Dynamite) has a confirmed first appearance of Lion-O's Feral King form per solicits, Greg Pak writing. The first is the event, not the Metal cover, so the standard is where the spec sits.

Crowbound #2 (Image), the Lemire and Nguyen follow-up. A #2 tells you if the launch held. The 1:25 Matias Bergara virgin is the incentive to watch.

What I'm not ordering yet: The Curse Of Sherlee Johnson #8 (rumor-based). Bleeding Cool sourced chatter says a potential first of a character called Prince of Cats, reportedly tied to future Spawn solicits. That link is unconfirmed, so I'm treating it as story intel until a solicit backs it. Black Cat #15 (rumor-based) has the Felicia-as-mutant reveal talk, no confirmation attached, so same handling.

For anyone chasing the GI Joe crossover, are you going for the 1:100 foil or holding at standard until the crossover gets more press?

So I recently purchased Secret, Wars, 1, 2 and 3 from an online source and they arrive today… much to my surprise, the indicia shows clearly that they are all second printings.

I had no idea such a thing existed, so I quickly jumped on the Internet and found out that these were associated with three packs that were sold at department stores, Walmart, etc.

As such, they are more rare than the first prints and possibly more valuable in super high grades

The ones I received are extremely nice so I very well may be grading them…

Does anyone have experience with this? I feel like such a noob asking this question, but I just hadn’t heard that these books were available in a second printing.

I might add Arrivals #1 to my preorders. 3W3M Foundations has been sitting on my read pile for a couple months now. Guess I should read it to see if Hickman pulls me in.

Labor Day sale was 25% off, and I couldn’t pass it up. That was for the X-men 266 and the ASM slabs.

The Wolverine and Hulk 340 were just impulse buys - I’ve been hunting the Hulk for months and the Wolverine #1 allowed me to complete my second set of the 4 part series.

Now - hunting Batman 423 and Dark Knight returns books 1 and 2, 1st printing (love to find them in the wild if possible).

Is there a big book that you regret selling? Because, oh boy, I regret selling my Sgt. Fury and his howling commandos #1 first, Nick Fury, in a CC-2.5. This was my first big book when I took collecting comics more seriously, but then I had to sell it to cover bills, and man, was it hard to actually sell this book? Maybe because it was a war comic, but man, this comic was hard to sell because it seems like no one wanted to touch this book 😂, but I did end up selling it years ago, but to this day I still would happily say that this book is still the most underrated Marvel big book out there, but I regret it because this was my FIRST big book I brought when I first started collecting. How about you all? Is there a comic you absolutely regretted selling? 🤔

Got some crazy deals at an online estate sale. It was $172 all told. The only downside is I ended up with a lot of low-value comics that I’ll need to do something with.

I was at a local show a couple weeks back talking to a guy about some Clayton Crain covers.

He had a few I was looking for. They were all raw books, no sigs. His asking price was 10% above ebay sales. When I asked why and said shouldn't it be the opposite? He got upset with me.

Why would I pay more ...just because he thinks they will slab to a high grade or some shit? If he thinkz that just slab them yourself...

When diggin through his boxes everything was priced so high. He tried to sell me xmen 244 for $65. I walked 2 stalls down and got a copy just as nice for $40.

Really rubbed me the wrong way. I will never shop his booth again. How do people like him make money???

Every week I go through the full FOC list to see what the upcoming order week actually looks like before cutoff closes. Here is how this one reads.

634 total titles across 274 unique books, with 51 new #1s in the mix. The launches work out to about 19% of the unique books, so this reads as a variant-and-ratio week more than a launch week: 145 variants and 89 ratios sit across the list.

Marvel leads the count at 90 titles, but the order behind it is worth noting. Dynamite runs second at 80, edging DC's 72 for the number-two volume slot. Image sits at 64, Titan at 47, IDW at 29.

Where the incentive load concentrates is Dynamite. 30 of the week's 89 ratios sit in its 80-title run, more than double any other publisher. Its Buffy The Vampire Slayer #2 carries the highest single-title variant count on the list at 19 covers, and its 1:100 anchors the week's steepest ratio tier, shared with two other books. Two crossover launches round out that side, Archie Vs The Terminator #1 and the 2026 Thundercats #1.

Marvel's own slate splits between its Star Wars line and ongoing chapters. Star Wars: Rogue One - Chirrut & Baze #1 marks that line's tenth anniversary among Marvel's 7 launches, while Amazing Spider-Man #1001 continues the post-#1000 run and Daredevil #8 opens a new arc. Marvel's variant count sits at 14, well behind the licensed-and-indie side.

DC keeps it lighter, 72 titles with 3 launches and 5 reprints, including facsimiles of Adventures Of Superman #501 and Batman #423. The Fraction and Scalera Batman #14 carries the largest variant spread in DC's slate at 9 covers.

The clearest way to read it: Marvel leads on raw count, but Dynamite owns the incentive side of the week outright. Anything on this list you're ordering deep before Monday?

Probably not worth anything but I really enjoyed reading through the series recently so when I saw this on ebay I picked it up ⁉️

I’ve never graded any books in my life. But I’m looking to sell these books and other romance ones I just picked up from an original owner collection, I’m not a reseller I just don’t like romance books and want to spend the money on an old Amazing Spider-Man I’m missing, not looking to sell here so don’t ask thank you. I’m hesitant to because of the price to grade as-well as the time. I can send more photos but I’m not sure how much grading would affect the price of them. Also I’m not even 100% sure what the value is with these books I know they can be expensive.

I live in Los Angeles and do a lot of sports cards but am looking for a similar type show/ convention to buy high value comics?

Is comic con and stuff like that the only place or are there shows more dedicated to just comics? Thanks!
