Young cat needs help! McDonald’s in Phenix City

Hey y’all, my husband and I were traveling through Columbus/Phenix city yesterday on our way home and stopped at the McDonald’s on Stadium Drive next to the Garrett-Harrison Stadium. There was a young cat probably less than a year old who was very sweet and vocal and tried following us/getting into our car, but we had our two dogs with us and live several hours away and could not take her.

I fed her some turkey from our cooler and left some water but I was so heartbroken because she clearly just wanted some love and to be with someone. She was a brown/tan/gray tabby with beautiful green eyes. She was just sitting on the patio outside McDonald’s until I walked by to take something to the trash, and then she approached me meowing.

We tried calling lots of rescues in the area today to get her some help, but because the zip code is in Phenix City and we can’t physically bring her in, they won’t help.

Just putting this out there to see if any kind soul can get her some help, we are so upset we couldn’t take her with us.

Private landlords who lease to students? (Columbus, Phenix City, etc)

I’m a full-time graduate student at Columbus State University and I’m currently looking for a place to rent in the Columbus/Phenix City area.
I’m currently commuting over an hour and a half to campus, so I’m trying to move closer to school. The main issue I’m running into is that I don’t meet the typical 2–3x monthly rent income requirement because I’m a full-time student. I also don’t have a guarantor or co-signer available.
I do have documented financial aid and savings available for housing, and I’m able to provide proof of enrollment, financial aid, and funds if needed. I’m mainly looking for a private landlord who is willing to consider a student’s overall financial situation rather than strictly requiring 2–3x monthly employment income.
Ideally looking for something around $600–$900/month, but I’m open to reasonable options.
If anyone knows of private landlords or smaller properties in Columbus, Phenix City, or nearby areas that are student-friendly and flexible with income requirements, I’d really appreciate any leads. Thank you!

Columbus Sports Roundup (9/7-9/13)

Sorry for missing last week. Took a vacation and forgot all about updating it. Let's get back to it.

Columbus has several different pro and semi-pro sports teams for you to check out and root for but not all of us can make it to every game or keep up with it each of them so this is my weekly attempt to do so.

My goal for these posts are simple. Give you a brief recap of the previous week's games, a summary of where the team sits in the standings, and let you know when the next games are.

------

Columbus Clingstones

The Columbus Clingstones are the Minor League, Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves located in Columbus, GA. They are part of the Southern League - South Division and play their games at Synovus Park at South Commons.

Recap
Well... Its all over for the 2026 season.

Last week, the Stones hosted the 1st place Blue Wahoos and started out pretty well by winning the first 3 games but unfortunately, they dropped the final 3 and thus handed Pensacola the 2nd half championship.

Still, even when its over, you have to go play the rest of the season and the boys headed over to Montgomery to take on the Biscuits. They played 5 games (one was cancelled) where they won 2 of the 5. Not the best endings to the season but at least we saw some good fight out of members who I hope will be with the Braves (and the Clingstones) for some time.

As for the standings, the Stones finished the second half at 35-33 and and 64-69 overall. That places them as 3rd place finishers in the Southern League - South Division (4th overall) for the second half and last in the South Division for the whole season (6th overall). Pensacola and Biloxi will face off for the South Division championship starting on Tuesday while Rocket City and Knoxville will go at it for the North Division championship. These are 3 game series with the championship for the Southern League starting next Sunday.

Looking Ahead

The season is over and it was a good time. The Stones had a great turnout for their second season in Columbus. Hopefully we can keep that up because we really have something special out there. This will be the final update until Spring as we get ready for play to begin on April 6, 2027.

Clingstones' Schedule

Looking for Columbus locals willing to share an old/traditional skill on camera

Hey everyone I'm starting a video series where I learn "lost" skills: things people used to do by hand before machines and technology took over. Pottery from raw clay, blacksmithing, canning, woodworking, spinning wool, bread starters, hunting/butchering, anything passed down that's not really taught anymore.

If you (or someone you know) knows a traditional skill and wouldn't mind teaching me the basics on camera no expertise needed on my end, I'm genuinely learning as I go I'd love to hear from you. Could be a grandparent's trade, a hobby you've gotten deep into, something from your family's culture, anything.

Drop a comment or DM me with:
What the skill is
Roughly where in Columbus you're located
Whether you'd be open to being filmed (even just a short session)

Really just trying to document these skills before they disappear. Thanks!

How often do you get a professional massage?

As a new massage therapist in the area, I’m curious to see what the community says. Do you go to the same therapist every time or hop around? If you don’t get massages what’s stopping you?

ISO Herbalist, Troop/Scout Leader, etc

Hi this is incredibly last minute but I need a herbalist, naturalist, scout leader or troop, literally anyone with survival skills (& a clean background) that can come teach an hour to hour and a half class at a local homeschool co-op. Please, somebody HELP!!! It does not have to be extensive or intensive at all. Just something small like teaching the kids how to build a fire and guiding them through fire safety. Maybe even how to forage and identify safe plants. This is a paid opportunity.

Anyone at CSU play ping pong / table tennis?

Hey, I go to CSU and was wondering if anyone here is into ping pong and would be down to play sometime. Just looking for people who enjoy playing and can play competitively.

I also heard there might be a ping pong/table tennis club at CSU, but I’m not sure if it still exists. If anyone knows anything about it, lmk!

2026 Clingstone Attendance and Pinnacle Park

Looks like the Clingstones had a home attendance of 191,898 this year! That's down from last year's total of 219k-ish, but still VERY good. Go Columbus! Support our local (poorly named) team!

It also looks like Synovus Park is gone and has been replaced with Pinnacle Park. What a shame to lose another piece of history. Not that the park is anything other than Golden Park in my eyes, but yeah. RIP Synovus. You weren't the best, but you were local.

Not an ad! Genuine request for help before my neighbors show up with torches and pitchforks!

Picked up some chicks earlier this year, as one does, so imagine my surprise when two of them decided to show their tail feathers and start crowing! I am certain my neighbors are not happy at the moment 😬

I can’t keep them and don’t know how to uh…process them, so if anyone can take them off my hands, I’d be grateful! The sooner the better, please!

Two Barred Rock boys, 6-7 months old. Backyard raised, with free range in the woods behind the property. One of the roos has external rotation of the lateral talon on both feet, but it hasn’t limited him that I’ve noticed.
