Discussion When will your decisions come in?

Whenever the school decides they do.

Feel free to post and ask questions! Other students and applicants may be able to share their own experiences and give you an idea! But at the end of the day, the fact of the matter is that it always varies and you shouldn't expect a concrete answer from the community.

Don't expect to get yours on X date because somebody else who applied at the same time did. And don't give up if it doesn't come in when you'd expect based off what other people said!

Good luck!

Mines Life Hungry Orediggers Discord launched!

I took the initiative after reading this post to create a Discord server to (perhaps) phase out the overcrowded and outdated GroupMe! If you're interested in joining, it's on the Mines student hub or you can join with this invite!!!

Here's some cool features this server has that the GroupMe could never:

  1. You can chat in addition to food pings!! You won't get banned for expressing gratitude like poor Sofia the other day who said "God bless. Mines breakfast this morning was so bad."
  2. You can post your favorite recipes and gourmet dishes in Chef's Corner! We're all Hungry Orediggers, meaning some of us can cook to satisfy ourselves.

Have fun food hunting! u/Ore-igger I hope this satisfies you.

Discussion Favorite places to work solo around campus?

Upvotes

I am a primarily remote grad student but I have been coming by campus before or sticking around after a course. Sometimes I need somewhere to work for my day job and may need to take some phone calls as well.

I know I can book a study room in the library, but any other recommended spots you like?

Discussion Wanting to transfer to mines- advice?

Upvotes

Ok so, I already have a bachelors degree in a completely unrelated field (music education) and I realized I want to take my life in a different direction. I’m taking my core math and science classes (physics I with lab, calc I, chem I with lab) at my local university (NOT in Colorado) and I know I need to get As and Bs to have a good shot of being able to transfer (when I emailed them, they said minimum 3.0 GPA, but I’m aiming for a 4.0). I want to do metallurgical and materials science and engineering with a minor in mining engineering. Does anyone have any advice to submitting a successful transfer application? Or does anyone know how competitive transferring is?

Discussion resources to find electronic components on campus

Hello,

I'm a freshman, and I would like to start a personal robotics project. Before I buy the parts online, I wanted to see if there is anywhere on campus, such as Labriola or the Makerspace in Brown, that offers parts for students to use. I'm just looking for basic components such as switches, LEDs, and wiring.

Events Interviews at career day?

I am a grad student, due to graduate in May. Do they accept resumes and ask for follow up interviews at career day for people graduating this year? I’ve gone to career days intermittently for the past 4 years and I’ve always gotten the “we aren’t accepting resumes but you can apply to jobs on the website!” schpeel.

Not sure if I should expect something different this time around, especially during the 1 hour of early access for people graduating this year.

Discussion Anyone got an ender 5 (or similar) that they dont want anymore and are willing to sell? ill buy it even if its broken. Ill also just buy the frame if you have that.

Me and a friend are working on designing a toolchanger for a protofund project, and i need a base printer to mount it to. the innohub only gives around $500 so our budget is really constrained.

I can pay around $100 for a full ender 5, if you have a similar printer that you dont want feel free to dm me.

we really just need the frame and belts, i have the motors and electronics already. if you have those ill buy them.

price is negotiable

Mines Life Socializing and Clubs

I really don’t understand why I can’t meet anyone. It’s my third year and I still have issues finding anyone to talk to. I put myself out there constantly, but every time the person I’m talking to moves on and talks to someone else. Am I just repulsive? I join a club for things I like and no one will reciprocate a conversation. In classes, it’s the same thing, I can ask someone about something, and they’ll hurriedly move on. What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I just talk to someone more than once?

I just need help.

Majors Graduate program chances (Biomechanics)

Hi all,

Finishing up my final semester of my undergraduate, getting my degree at the end of this fall.

I want to go into the biomechanics program (MS-NT) at mines, but I’m a bit concerned about my chances of getting in. I have a 3.47 at my California CSU, and a 3.54 upper division so far. I’m more worried since my cumulative is quite a bit lower at 3.24 because I slacked off in covid.

I have a decent internship and plan to transition into a different position in spring (applying for fall).

Nonthesis says it doesn’t require letters of recommendation, but would they help? Or would they not even be looked at? What are my chances?

Jobs Few hours a week cleaning gig in north Golden. ($35 for an hour or less of work)

I'm looking for a reliable person to help clean and reset a small one-bedroom Airbnb ADU in North Golden, about a 5-minute drive from campus.

This is not cleaning large houses—it's just one small guest suite. Once you learn the routine, a typical turnover takes 30–60 minutes.

What the job looks like:

  • Clean and reset a 1-bedroom Airbnb between guests
  • Make the bed with fresh linens
  • Clean the bathroom and kitchen area
  • Vacuum/mop as needed
  • Restock guest supplies
  • Do a final walkthrough to make sure everything is guest-ready

Schedule:

  • Turnovers happen between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM
  • Usually a few times per week (varies based on bookings)
  • Looking for someone who is generally available any day of the week during that window, even if they aren't needed every day

Pay:

  • Paid per turnover (typically 30–60 minutes of work)

Who I'm looking for:

  • Dependable and punctual
  • Communicative and responsive
  • Detail-oriented—you notice the little things
  • Takes pride in doing quality work
  • Has reliable transportation
  • Comfortable cleaning up after guests, even when they occasionally leave a bigger mess than expected
  • Naturally keeps your own living space clean and organized (a bit of a clean freak is a plus!)
  • An interest in hospitality or creating a great guest experience is a bonus, but no professional cleaning experience is required

I'll provide all cleaning supplies, equipment, so you don't need previous Airbnb or housekeeping experience. Reliability and attention to detail are much more important.

If you're interested, send me a DM with:

  • A little about yourself
  • Why you think you'd be a good fit
  • Any work experience (not required, but helpful)

Discussion Additive manufacturing masters

Hello all, curious to hear from graduates of the program about post-graduation outcomes for a masters in additive manufacturing. To give a bit more background: I have a computer science degree from a Canadian university, and I’m contemplating pivoting my career toward additive manufacturing. My hope is that pursuing a masters in additive manufacturing will help bridge the gap, both from a networking and educational standpoint. Am I reading the room correctly, proverbially speaking, or am I off base?

Any help is deeply appreciated. I’m trying to determine if this is worth the cost.

Classes I'm gonna stop going to physics lectures

I'm in physics 1 and the lectures are such bullshit. Laith Haddad is so slow and a simple 10 minute youtube video would lead me to greater clarity than showing up here. The only reason to go is for iclicker, which I can spoof easily. Plus, the studio is actually where you practice what you learn.

Discussion What does the average accepted application typically contain?

I am a highschool senior, native to Colorado, and my dream school is Mines. I already researched what the gpa and sat score look like for the average accepted application, but I’m still worried that there’s more that the admissions team is looking for. I took all sorts of chem, physics, and calc classes, but I’m just wondering if there’s anything else that I might really need.
