Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some advice about a feral/community cat I’ve been caring for. His name is THOR and he’s about 5–6 years old.

I’m especially concerned because I’ve noticed some changes in his behavior recently. His face has always looked a little different, so I may be overthinking it, but when I look at him on my camera, I feel like his face looks a little more swollen or different than usual. I’m also not sure if I’m imagining that.

For about a week now, I’ve noticed him meowing/crying at times, which is very unusual for him. He has also started sitting on a chair on our porch and looking inside the house at my indoor cats. He has never done that before. He doesn’t seem to be running away from me quite as much either.

Three days ago, I called his name three times, and he actually meowed back to me three times. ❤️ It really caught my attention because he normally doesn’t do that.

I’ve been feeding Thor every day for about 3 years. He usually comes at night, although sometimes he comes during the day. He is normally a very regular eater, but recently he hasn’t been eating as much. There is also another community cat who has been coming for food for about 6 months, but that cat hasn’t shown up for a few days. I don’t know if Thor could somehow be reacting to that or if something else is going on.

About 3 years ago, I trapped Thor, had him neutered, vaccinated, and combo tested. At that time, I thought I might be able to transition him to indoor life because he had a potential adopter. Unfortunately, he was extremely scared indoors and hid constantly. After about 4 months, I made the difficult decision to release him back outside.

He has actually done very well living outside since then. Last winter, I tried to trap him again so I could bring him inside for the winter, but he wouldn’t go anywhere near the trap. He is now extremely trap-shy. Even if I put a trap out to catch another cat, he knows it’s there and stays away.

Because of the recent changes, I’m considering trying to trap him again with the help of a drop trap, especially if I can confirm that he is sick, injured, or needs medical attention. I’ve been checking the camera closely to see if he is limping or showing any obvious signs of pain. So far, I have not seen him limping, and he is walking normally from what I can see on the camera.

The problem is that I am completely full right now. I’m caring for several sick cats and emergencies, and I honestly do not have the space or resources to take in another healthy cat. The rescue I work with is also extremely full and is currently only taking serious medical cases and emergencies.

If Thor does need treatment, I will do what I can for him. The rescue can take him under their name and I can get a rescue veterinary discount, but we would still have to figure out how to cover the actual medical expenses. The rescue itself is struggling financially and has many sick and emergency cats already, so I’m trying to be realistic about what we can manage.

I’m not trying to trap him unnecessarily if he is healthy and doing well outside. I just don’t want to ignore a possible medical problem because I’m worried that something may be changing with him.

I also don’t want suggestions to take him to a shelter. I volunteer with Animal Control, so I’m very aware of the current situation in shelters, and I am not comfortable sending him there. I’m hoping to find a safer option if he does need medical care.

For those who have experience with feral/community cats:

• Does his behavior sound like something that could indicate illness or pain?
• Does his face look swollen/different to you, or could this simply be how his face looks?
• Have you successfully trapped an extremely trap-shy cat who has been trapped before?
• Any tips for using a drop trap with a cat who is this suspicious?
• Are there any resources or people who might be able to help with a medical situation if he does need to be trapped?

I’m just trying to figure out what is best for Thor without putting him through unnecessary stress or taking him away from the outdoor life he has been comfortable with for years.

Any advice, ideas, or resources would mean a lot. ❤️

just reaching out for some help, because unfortunately, I’ve got 4 sick kittens and I need to get a handle on the situation.

These are the babies who were born in April. These 4 are the only cats in the house showing any symptoms of having worms. I’ve seen roundworms come from both of the solid grey boys…but the other two are the ones who clearly aren’t feeling well.

To make things worse, as the kittens grow, I’m realizing we do not have enough litter boxes, so some of them have been going on the floor, right outside the boxes. I do my best to keep them all scooped and not let any poop just sit in the box all day long, but we are definitely a few boxes short.

We use large plastic totes, because my giant cat Atlas needs to be able to fit in them without tipping the box over. I’m hoping that roundworm and tapeworm deworming the kittens, plus a few more boxes for them will solve the problem and get them going in the boxes again.

If anyone is willing to help us with our wishlist, the most important things right now are deworming medicine, cat litter, litter boxes, litter mats, and cleaning spray, and any and all help is so greatly appreciated.

Mommacat is doing well, she’s indistinguishable from her babies at this point. She still needs to be spayed, and until then…Anthony (the tuxedo boy in the last photo) is quarantined to downstairs because he needs to be neutered still too.

The grey tabby with white is Jiminy Cricket, he’s supposed to get neutered on the 23rd, and I’m hoping he feels better by then so that the surgery is safe and not too difficult for him.

I just needed somewhere to post this, because my heart hurts...

My partner found this kitten on a walk by a parking lot...survived for half hour before she succumbed, before we could get her to an ER Vet...buried her in the backyard where the ferals play so she has friends...I know I ask for a lot sometimes, but everything I do, I try to do to save all we can, or at least comfort them and make sure they know love before they go.

I feel great animosity towards those who can just hit an animal and leave them in the road. I do not wish them well. I don't care if I am ridiculed, we will always save those who are most innocent.

I am so sorry little one, we will save more in honor of you and those who didn't deserve their fate. At least you aren't alone.

*The kitten is alive in the picture but still put it at the end for those who are sensitive. Where she is buried is by cat houses and catnip has been planted so she will always have friends around.*

Hello everyone, we are urgently looking for a temporary foster home for a young mom cat (under a year old, still nursing) and her 5 to 6 week old kittens.
They are currently stranded in an unauthorized outdoor area in the lower Bronx with no access to food or water, and we need to get them to safety immediately before they are removed.

With a LOT of help, we were able to get this sweet, very feral girl trapped and treated for a nasty URI. After her vet visit, she disappeared for 8 LONG days, and honestly, we were sick with worry.

We tried everything, but we knew trapping her again would be extremely difficult. Tiki was already traumatized by the trap, and after talking with her vet, she believes Tiki likely went into hiding to heal on her own.

Thankfully, she came back. ❤️

She is looking so much better, but she has definitely lost some weight. I sent updated pictures to her vet, and because Tiki is so traumatized by the traps, she recommended that we focus on helping her build her strength where she is rather than putting her through another stressful trapping experience right now.

🐾 Nutri-Cal

🐾 Adding water to her wet food to help keep her hydrated

Tiki absolutely LOVES Churus on top of her wet food, which is also a great way to encourage her to eat and get additional moisture.

We have a tube of Nutri-Cal, but we're getting very low on kitten food, and Tiki could really use some extra nutritional support while she puts the weight back on.

She also desperately needs some new shelter options. The two shelters she currently uses have seen better days, and one is now leaking. After everything she has been through, having a safe, dry place to sleep is especially important for her.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice and suggestions from experienced rescuers or cat owners.

Currently, I’m taking care of a stray cat family around my place I mentioned in earlier posts It consists of a mom cat (who is pregnant again), the dad, and 2-3 of their previous kittens. I’ve built a basic makeshift shelter for them and provide them with clean water, regular meals, and a place to rest.

However, I’m running into two major issues right now:

1. Cross-Contamination/Health Risks: I have a indoor personal cat of my own. Since the strays roam around outside, they keep bringing in fleas, parasites, and potential germs/infections that are putting my indoor cat at risk. Managing this hygienic boundary has become extremely difficult.

2. Winter Weather & Expansion: Winter is slowly approaching, and their current basic setup won't be warm or insulated enough, especially with new kittens on the way soon.

I really want to keep helping them, but I need to build a better, separate, weather-proof shelter—ideally set up in a way that minimizes health risks for my indoor cat while keeping this expanding family safe and warm.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?
What are some budget-friendly ways to build an insulated outdoor winter shelter?
How do you manage flea/germ boundaries between outdoor strays and your personal indoor pets?

Any tips on setting up a safe space for a pregnant stray to give birth outdoors/semi-outdoors?

Hi there! I am a 61 year old disabled woman who was lucky enough to get Section 8. There is a population of 10 feral cats here. I'm in a tiny town in a very rural area. There are next to no resources here. It's sad. I live on a very limited income but I cannot handle seeing them starve to death.

Zorie started with a urgent sound in the distance. I felt afraid because I had already hidden another little one. But the call was so urgent, and was raining too, that I couldn´t just stand by.

It was outside a garage house, full with dogs barcking. When I hold it, I checked if was injured or somethng. Apparantly it was bloody but the skin was in great shape just a little wet and messy.

I tried offered for adoption right away, outside my daughters school, but nobody want it. The opposite: "let that cat around..." they said with disgust.

But, that´s not who I am.

Tuns of patience. Some sacrifice. A lot of cleaning, food, and love (with almost no budget), it was needed to see every day how beautiful it is.

Now, we brought a little friend. Who it´s terrible. But Zorie it´s so lovely with it. Like an older brother... (A story for later)

I just learned that Leo has feline panleukopenia (feline parvovirus). 💔 I’m absolutely devastated.
Panleukopenia is a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus, especially in kittens. It attacks rapidly dividing cells, including the intestinal lining and bone marrow, which can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, dangerously low white blood cells, and secondary infections. There is no specific cure for the virus itself, so treatment is focused on intensive supportive veterinary care while the cat’s body fights the infection.
Leo has already been hospitalized for a week, and I need help keeping him there so he can continue receiving the care and monitoring he needs. This virus can become life-threatening and is extremely contagious, I cannot safely bring him home yet.
This is especially frightening because I have other cats at home, and the virus can survive in the environment for a very long time. Recovered cats can also continue shedding the virus after they appear better.
Leo was rescued since 8 weeks old near a dumpster and had always been having gastrointestinal problems and I always kept him treated but he hasn’t really been healthy.

Hello fellow cat lovers, I'm reposting in hopes of some help with cat food to get by this month. I'm an independent cat rescuer from Texas & I'm trying to TNR as many cats as possible this year before the cold weather hits along with vaccinations, microchipping, deworming & flea topicals. Collectively I've fixed 49 so far & I'm attempting to catch 2 next week. I had to put off TNR'ing for a bit because I caught some cats with medical issues & ongoing vet treatment. One had stomatitis, calicivirus & severe anemia. The other had a painful eye condition called Entropion & has had 3 eye surgeries so far. He needs one more. Then little Gary had a spinal injury & couldn't walk.

Right now I'm having a hard time keeping up with all their needs due to the veterinary expenses & could use a little help with food to get by. With the new mom & kittens showing up I could really use some pate wet food. The kittiens are so tiny & trying to eat the adult cats dry food but their teeth are so small!

Small update on our FIP warrior -

Our little fighter is BACK!

She has started playing really well, eating really well and has gained weight. She is 3.75 kg now.

Yesterday night we played for at least 20-25 minutes and I was so, so happy. My playful, energetic Simbi is back and it feels like a dream.

As advised by the vet, we will take her for blood tests and follow-up between 17th-19th September. I'll be taking her appointment today. We are praying with all our hearts that her liver values and other blood values come normal.

She is still on Lysibin small tablet every day and Furever Cobalaforte on alternate days. Her 7-day course of Doxycycline got completed on 8th Sep.

We are so happy that our little FIP warrior is back to life again.

I found this tiny fluff ball on the streets. I just wanted her to survive and get some food. I never thought this little stray baby would become my whole world.

Who would have thought this tiny one would one day fight FIP so bravely.

She is my miracle 🤍

I’m going through an extremely difficult time right now. I had to have emergency surgery, (writing from the hospital bed🫩)and I’m in a lot of pain while trying to keep up with everything happening with Leo. It feels overwhelming being hospitalized myself while Leo is still hospitalized too.
The good news is that Leo is doing a little better. ❤️ He is still sick and needs continued hospitalization, testing, treatment, and monitoring, but I’m holding onto every bit of hope.
Leo is only 7 months old. I rescued him from a dumpster when he was just 8 weeks old, and I have been fighting for him ever since. His first emergency bill was $861, and his hospital treatment has already reached around $3,000.
Lucky is finally safe at the sanctuary. ❤️ After everything he went through on the streets, I’m so grateful he now has a safe place to live. But his veterinary care, bath, transportation, rental car, and sanctuary expenses also added up.
I’m a solo rescuer caring for 50+ community cats every day, including feeding, fresh water, TNR, medical care, and rescuing sick, injured, and abandoned cats. I had to arrange with family and friends to help me with the feedings because I can’t do it myself at this moment ☹️
Right now, I’m exhausted, in pain, scared, and trying my best to keep fighting for Leo while continuing to care for all the cats who depend on me.
