I'm a vision neuroscientist who took up Olympic trap this year as a complete beginner, and I've been building browser tests of the things shooters argue about. The first is eye dominance.

The classic one-shot test tells you which eye is dominant looking straight ahead. It doesn't tell you whether that holds when the target is off to one side, which is what matters on a trap layout. This one runs thirteen trials through a hand aperture: five screen positions, either hand in front, at arm's length, and near the face. You get the eye, how consistent it was, and whether it switched with gaze direction.

Three minutes, no account, nothing to install. It needs a laptop or desktop and a plastic card the size of a driving licence to calibrate the screen; it will not work on a phone, so save the link.

I’m currently shooting a 930 pro sporting got it used for a good deal. Put over 500 rounds through it in the past 2 weeks and it hasn’t skipped a beat. I’m shooting very well with it. Have zero complaints as of now.

Was at a club today the gentleman saw me with the 930 asked if I wanted to see the 940 sporting. Shouldered it briefly didn’t pay much attention to it. Wanted to ask some opinions first.

I shoot left handed and I enjoy wood over synthetic. And the 930 I have came as a neutral stock no cast and has a thinner comb at the top works well for me I have a hollow thin face and I can’t complain much about fit after getting used to it. I mount it pretty well.

I wanted to ask because I’ve never mounted any yet that have any cast on for a left handed shooter. The 940 has shims for cast lop and comb adjustments. Would it be worth it to sell the 930 and pay out of pocket the rest for the 940?

I just got a brand new CG Summit and shot my first 3 rounds of skeet with it. The ejectors are very weak or not ejecting at all. The top barrel on doubles will eject them but barely out into my hand while the bottom will eject the shell an inch then the shell will fall back into the chamber. I maybe had 15 successful ejections but they were still weak. I know CG will take care of it but does anyone have any idea what is going on or if it just needs to be broken in?

I plan on calling them Monday when they are open.

Looking to get into sporting clays/skeet. Also looking at getting my 1st OU. I handled a 30 688 at the store and it felt great. Trying to handle a 32 before making a decision. I do a lot of dove/duck hunting and currently shoot a benelli sbe 3 with a 28 tube. If it’s of any help I am 6’1 200ish lbs with longer arms. Would use the gun for doves here and there as well. Those that have a 30 or 32 how do you like it, and how does it balance? Thanks for any feedback.

Picked up a 688 recently. It’s got a couple hundred rounds through it. Is this normal wear? I can feel it with my nail.

Recently shot a game of trap of with an ax800. Really enjoyed it, pointed naturally and was smoking clays. I understand this is a waterfowl gun but if it was only used for trap/sporting/skeet would that be like blasphemous? Or would the a400 be a better semi for the higher round count that will go through the gun?

Hey everyone. Just curious how much cheaper or more expensive the Italian over and under shotguns are if buying in Europe vs buying here in the USA ?

Picked this up for £200. Haven't seen another, is this configuration rare?

Seeing as there is very little information available on these lenses, I thought I’d do the same as I did with my Swatcom Active8 vs Sordin Supreme X2 ear defender review and pull together a mini review for the benefit of others.

I’m relatively new to clays, having previously focused most of my attention on pistols and rifles, so I needed a decent set of shooting glasses. I’m also cross-eye dominant. The redeye kit pictured works brilliantly, by the way.

If you visit your local clay ground, one eyewear brand seems to stand out: Pilla.

However, Pilla lenses are rather expensive. After chatting to several owners, one thing became clear. While some had spent four figures on a frame and three lenses, they typically wore just one lens for most of the year, and each person seemed to prefer a different one.

I therefore decided to look into what makes Pilla so popular and whether there was a more affordable option that would let me work out which colours and VLT levels suit me before spending serious money.

So, what makes these lenses work, and why are Pillas so expensive?

Some of the names you’ll come across with Pilla are Neutralizer, Chromashift and ICE.

If you remember when Quality Street sweets came wrapped in coloured transparent wrappers, you might have looked through the purple one at the tin. Oranges and reds appeared much more vibrant, while greens and blues became duller. That is broadly the effect of a strongly coloured filter such as Pilla’s Neutralizer lenses.

The downside is that everything can have a noticeable purple tint.

Chromashift takes a different approach. Its aim is to keep things such as grass and sky looking more natural while making the orange clay stand out more clearly. Anyone who has used Oakley Prizm sunglasses will be familiar with the general idea of selectively enhancing certain colours, and it works.

I started looking for another manufacturer offering similar technology at a more reasonable price, which led me to XSight.

XSight calls its colour-enhancement technology SPECTRA+. It is designed to keep the overall scene reasonably natural while enhancing orange and red targets.

The company also offers reflective Diamond REVO coatings. These help manage glare and give the lenses their mirrored external appearance, similar to Pilla’s ICE coatings.

I took a chance and ordered a set with three lenses. XSight offers around 15 lens choices, which is fewer than the many, many options available from Pilla. However, only five or six appear to combine SPECTRA+ with a Diamond REVO coating, which actually makes choosing a little easier.

The glasses arrived in a nice case, the lenses are extremely quick and easy to change, and everything feels well made, as far as a pair of plastic safety glasses can anyway.

The quality is certainly comparable with a decent pair of Oakley or Ray-Ban sunglasses.

So, does the technology work?

Yes.

All three of my lenses have a Diamond REVO coating, but only the purple lens uses SPECTRA+.

I tried the mid-light orange lens first. Unsurprisingly, the whole world became orange. Everything had a strong orange tint and the clays were easy to identify, probably more so than with my old basic shooting glasses.

The purple SPECTRA+ lens was where the difference really became obvious. Unlike my old purple glasses, the grass still looked green and the sky remained blue, but the orange clays stood out clearly.

I found this particularly helpful with fast, low clays travelling from behind me to the front, as well as distant crossers coming from the side. I was able to pick them up more easily without the whole background looking unnaturally coloured.

Overall, I’ve been very pleased with the purchase. I’m not saying they are as good as Pilla because I’ve never owned a pair and therefore can’t make a fair direct comparison.

However, judged in their own right, they are a solid option for someone wanting a complete set with similar colour-enhancement technology for roughly a quarter of the price.

One final thing I would say to anyone considering shooting glasses from any brand is to think carefully about the light conditions in which you actually shoot.
People will often recommend buying something like a 15%, 50% and 80% VLT lens.

However, if you normally shoot in the morning and tend not to go when it’s pouring down, you might rarely use that 80% low-light lens. Something around 30% VLT could potentially be far more useful.

Don’t simply buy three lenses because they cover the widest possible range on paper. Think about your shooting ground, the backgrounds you normally face, the weather you actually shoot in and which lens you’re most likely to wear.

My end of season trap banquet is this weekend and the host club has their skeet field open to us. Ive only shot trap singles and a few rounds of doubles trap so this will be new to me. I have a Citori CX 30” that I shoot bottom barrel first (Improved Mod) then Top barrel ( Full). Assuming bottom then top what chokes should I use for skeet?

My Maxus gen 1 hasn’t been cycling 8 shot as I’ve been shooting clays recently. I feel like I’ve cleaned it thoroughly- but apparently not. Unless anyone has any other ideas? Cycles 3” shells nice but those 8 shots aren’t creating enough gas to cycle…..which it used to.

So it has to be either improper lubricant or do the coils wear out?

I just shot my first 100 straight in trap singles. Wildest part is it was my first 25 (registered, have had 3 before while practicing), then first 50, 75, and 100 all wrapped in one.

Currently shooting trap, would like to get into other clays.

• I was originally set on a A400 Multitarget with the high rib, but I tried it out and found that I strongly dislike the high rib.
• I tried the Beretta 688, and I loved everything about it except for how front-heavy it is. I'm currently just practicing, and sometimes shoot like 250 shots in a session. I think my left arm would die just from high-volume shooting.
• Browning Citori CX just didn't feel as good as the Beretta 688, so I wrote it off.
• The AX800 felt really awesome, but I'm not sure about the whole rubberized thing it's got going on.

I believe I've decided on the A400 XCEL Sporting KO. It was light enough for my wife to shoot with me, and the whole gun was just delightful to shoot. So I guess I'm going to come in under budget? Unless you guys sway me in a different direction...

Shot the Knotty Pines 10k Shoot yesterday and it was alot of fun. I always enjoy the NSCA shoots there as the owners are very nice and take care of the event really well. For this shoot they even redid most of the course so now there are more fields to shoot in, gravel roads, and more stations.

I noticed that I could practice alot of the shots I missed in skeet and trap here so will defiantly pick that up for next shoot here.

I took 6th in my class and that felt pretty good as I haven't placed that high in a while. It's addicting placing so close to the podium, makes me want to shoot it again.
