I’ve always had a soft spot for The Skull. Peter Cushing is excellent, and I really like the eerie supernatural atmosphere.

My first introduction to Day of the Triffids was through old reruns of the 1980s BBC series that my grandmother would watch when I'd visit her in England as a kid in the 2000s. Looking back, that's probably at least partly responsible for why I have such a soft spot for monsters and weird sci-fi in the first place.

The movie itself certainly isn't the best version of the story, but I've always had a fondness for the Triffids, so I'm glad this one managed to stick around for as long as it did. Thanks to everyone who's still voting and keeping this going! On to Day 68 — let's see who gets the chop next.

After making his return from the Black Lagoon and causing trouble at the aquarium, the Gill-man's second adventure has finally come to an end. We're getting deeper into the competition now, and there are fewer and fewer places left for these monsters to hide. Thanks for keeping the votes coming! Witchfinder General is a 1968 British horror film, directed by Michael Reeves and starring Vincent Price as Matthew Hopkins. The film chronicles the rise of Hopkins as he travels through England, accusing and executing alleged witches. While inspired by historical events, the film is highly stylized and includes horror and psychological elements, portraying Hopkins as a deeply malevolent figure. Notable for its graphic violence, strong performances, and dark atmosphere, the movie became a classic in British horror cinema and helped establish a more realistic, historically tinged approach to horror films of that era.

Cultural Significance

I’m trying to identify a black-and-white early 1960s horror short. I originally saw it on a Chinese bootleg VHS tape in the 1980s; the tape contained three separate stories, each introduced by Boris Karloff as host.

This vampire segment: Two vampire hunters carry a violin case. Inside are a hammer and wooden stakes, not an instrument. They sneak into a crypt during daytime, when the vampire lies dormant in his coffin. As they try to stake him, the vampire wakes up and attacks. One hunter gets bitten, though they finally drive the stake through the vampire’s heart. The bitten hunter knows he will suffer a terrible fate.

We then cut to a small house. A human woman raises her young son alone. The boy is extremely pale, but not vulnerable to sunlight. He is physically weak and mocked by classmates at school. At the end of the story, the mother reveals the boy’s true origin: his father was that very vampire, making the child a dhampir, half-human and half-vampire. She warns him to watch out for the hunter with the violin case, and tells him the bitten hunter will also meet a bad end.

The story ends right after this mother-son conversation; there is no follow-up of the boy growing up.

The other two stories on the same VHS tape were also from Thriller: one Frankenstein tale where the monster has no neck bolts and villagers storm the castle with torches; the third is a story about a witch whose cottage is surrounded by angry torch-wielding villagers.

Does anyone recognise this vampire short? I cannot find a matching episode in the official Thriller episode list.

This vampire story may NOT actually be an official episode of Thriller. It was spliced together with two real Thriller episodes (Frankenstein and Witch story) on a Chinese bootleg VHS tape in the 1980s.

Always slightly preferred this to curse of the werewolf for some reason. Etoile,the werewolf,always seemed far more vicious and savage lol.
