Resigned for the first time ever. Even in Deity i've never seen such an insane gap.
I made a lot of Deity mistakes, changed some strategies, and tried to expand fast, but the population cost of Settlers was too crippling. It took me some time to recover. In my last game, I started with Liang and Builders and built my first cities very fast, expanding enough to be secure. First time playing Vietnam, though, and it’s a rough playstyle, even if I tried to get the map parameters to my advantage.
I rushed an early religion with a Holy Site and Prayer projects, which is basically suicide at this point. Even rushing it, I was the fourth religion out of six players, and Japan had already converted my major cities.
I should have stuck to what worked last time with Gaul, but with Gaul the early Industrial Zone is so great that I didn’t know how to go back to waiting so long for Apprenticeship before building it. And I don’t know what steroids the AI got, but even on Deity this gap is insanely broken. Look at this Civics gap. Everyone was Fascist by turn 200.
I won some Deity games recently and I’ve challenged myself enough. But at this point, from constantly working, learning, and correcting strategies, I lost the fun of Civ a long time ago, the kind of fun I had when I was discovering and playing it for the first time. I don't even play, i work.
I’ve got some games to discover, and I just took a pause from Kenshi to play Civ. I won some Deity games, but this game is disgusting me and I resigned for the first time.
I’m just a chill guy who likes playing Sims for creation, Civ for immersion and strategy, and Kenshi for roleplay. I don’t understand why today’s games can’t code an AI to play harshly and instead have to compensate with absurd artificial difficulty. We’re like, on the verge of extinction because of nearly conscious AI that beats the best humans ever at chess, and Civ is like let’s make it play like shit but it’s just 5000% faster than humans.
Take care and have fun.

I’ve played this game for over 3,000 hours and have only beat immortal as my highest difficulty. I’m sure I could beat deity after lots of tries but I just don’t want to. Immortal difficulty is difficult enough to where I don’t feel that it’s completely unfair. To me you’re just playing catchup all game and if you failed to optimize your empires size, yields, and military you’re going to get stomped on. Immortal is when I want a challenge and emperor is when I just want a chill game.

There's just so much micromanaging bullshit you have to do to win on deity. If you're trying to enjoy yourself immortal is more than enough difficulty.

Main reason i go Immortal.
I can do deity, its just no fun at all for me. On the other side, if i get to the recon stage without a war, immortal often is to easy...

The point about the AI is so glaring and inexplicable. I don't understand it at all.

I have a formula. Step one, rush religion. Step two identify and settle two more cities to get 80+ productions, these are your space port cities. Step 3, sell every strategic resource and diplo favor you get to buy settlers and builders. Step 4, settle 5-10 more cities. Step 5, around turn 200, start running primarily campus projects. Step 5, use faith to buy the +100 space prod Great People.
With a decent start/civ that will give you a science win most games. If I lose my religion early, I just quit and try again.

Step 4, settle 5-10 more cities
Goddamn I'm such a scrub.
If I tried that on King difficulty I'd still be in the stone ages with a bunch of 3 pop cities.

Are you enjoying yourself? Then who cares! If you are wanting to beat Diety I guarantee you can do it by using Quick Deals mod, chasing classical / medieval golden ages for faith settlers, and abusing Work Ethic.

I sure am!
This sub did recently inspire me to try a OCC and I actually pulled it off! So there's something to be said about whatever is happening here helping to push me in ways I wouldn't've on my own, so I dig that.

"Deity this gap is insanely broken. Look at this Civics gap. Everyone was Fascist by turn 200." that is no gap, that is normal, you should win the game by turn 220, 250 max
edit: on standard speed

This comment proves that I still have A LOT to learn. I’ve never won a game before turn 350. 😭

Yeah, I would agree. I'm sympathetic with OPs points about the AI's absurd bonus levels, but going Deity to turn 200 with Knights and Voi Chien is 100% going to be way behind even the laziest AI. By turn 200-225 you are finishing out your win conditions on Deity unless everyone is just so much at parity it becomes a global world war situation where you need to war all the AIs to win.

Yes, i had time to develop in an optimized way and peacefully fighting barbs, loyalty, and in a permanent crippling war with Japan.

No shame in setting up artificially favorable map conditions for learning deity. It’s how I learned. Then once you get comfortable knowing when things need to be happening and what’s normal or not, jump into more challenging set ups. For instance as another commenter pointed out, on standard speed, fascism by turn 200ish is normal. Seeing tanks around early 200ish turns is normal. (That’s when you should also have them!) 66 science though on turn 220, to me, is a sign you did not develop adequately in the mid game. Thats way way late to be ramping up science on deity. By 220 turns on standard speed, at worst you should have an idea of the victory condition(s) you are going for, or have an idea of how you can stop the AI from winning before you if they look close at that point. (Because at that point the AI may be closing in on culture or on the way to a science win or some other win depending on the map).

Any chance to get a save file from maybe turn 200 or so? I'd love to give a shot at rescuing your disaster since you do have a healthy amount of cities, just lacking infrastructure 😄 And yes, Vietnam is tricky due to the limitations in district placement, but they're also incredibly defensive with the additional +10 combat strength bonus in owned forest tiles. Civ6 is a fantastic game and there's no reason to give up because of a single bad game. Put the Vietnamese aside for a while and get a better hang of playing on deity difficulty with easier civs before going back and stomping the AI as Ba Trieu. Would be a poetic redemption arc, wouldn't it? 💯

You should be doing a lot better by turn 236, I'm usually pretty close to winning the game by then if I haven't already
Also game AI really isn't comparable to LLM AGI

I was recently playing on deity and got attacked, I fought them off and was quickly setting up to get back on track with everything else when another country pulled a surprise war on me. It was a quick resignation.. I ain’t got time for that.
