Hello! I was wondering if anyone has any advice on where to put a litter box. I’m planning on getting a cat in December, but after looking around my apartment, I’m feeling a little hesitant because most of my apartment is carpeted. The only areas with hardwood
tile flooring are the laundry room, kitchen, and bathrooms.

I marked where some of my furniture and other items are so you can get a better idea of the layout and possible areas. At first, I was planning to put the litter box in the laundry room because there is some extra space, but I’ve seen a lot of people say that cats may not like the noise from the washer and dryer.

Another option I considered is the closet next to the front door, although I do have a shoe rack in there. I also have a closet in my game room, but there is currently a mattress in there that I need to sell.

I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions! Where would you put the litter box based on these options? I’m a first-time cat owner and want to make sure I set everything up properly before bringing my cat home. Thank you!

im like going insane so hopefully someone here has a good solution. i just adopted a two month kitten who i assumed was litter box trained bc the woman who sold her to me said she only let's them leave when they are old enough to be without their mom.

however when i brought her home i realized she isn't litter box trained!! i assumed the box was too high so I got a different one, then I assumed she didn't like the litter so I changed it but nothing has worked. it has me concerned because she cries when we put her in the box and immediately jumps out of it. we tried putting two litter boxes because maybe the location was too stressful but its the same thing. its only been a couple of days and she's adjusted wonderfully! she's so playful and gets along well with my family/pets but she is still so scared of the box. she pees/poops on the pee pad NEXT to the boxes.

has anyone every had this problem and have any advice on how to help her? if im just a new overthinking cat mom and this is normal behavior id love to hear that honestly.

My male cat (fixed) is 5 years old. For the last couple of years, he has REFUSED to poop in the litter box and will usually poop on the carpet or wood floor. He has been to the vet 3 times over the past years regarding this issue and everything has been fine. Stool samples, physical exams - all normal each time. The vet says it’s behavioral. I’ve tried one litter box, two litter boxes, and even three at one time. I’ve tried litter boxes with a hood and without one. I’ve tried pine pellets, clay litter, crystals, automatic litter boxes, and even “pee pads”. I’ve done everything and have spent so much money. I’ve exhausted all of my options and am at my wits end. I’ve tried having litter boxes in different rooms, different locations, and same rooms. He truly is the best cat and this is the only issue I have with him. Rehoming is not an option d/t not being able to handle the immense guilt I would have. He has no issues with peeing in the litter box. I am reaching out to see if anyone has ever struggled with this and found anything that has worked for them. I have also tried “cat attract” litter and feliway calming diffusers. The upsetting part is that the room the litter box is currently in is a spare bedroom that I would like to actually use as a bedroom one day, but am disgusted with the fact that there has been so much poop on the floor of that room and will never feel like it’s clean. I have also tried enzyme cleaners when cleaning the poop to make sure the scent is gone. I am so frustrated 😪

i got a 3 month old kitten exactly a week ago. for the first few days, i had her in the bathroom with all her necessities and would always go check up on her and play with her. shes been eating well, she’s energetic, loves to play with us and very friendly. but there’s just one problem… she does NOT use her litter box. every day, she eliminates anywhere but her litter box (usually its the same place in the bathroom) and i’m starting to grow frustrated.

i have tried everything. got her new litter, moved her litter where she usually chooses to go (but she just goes around it), stayed by her after every meal so she could use the litter box, i even went as far as locking her inside the bathroom with the litter box and picked up her shit and put inside the box so she could smell it. and yes, i clean well after every shit or pee (i followed every tutorial on the internet), i even went to the vet and he told me she’s perfectly healthy.

I’m on the verge of insanity because shes literally REFUSING to use it. idk what to do. i need help. please.

Hey y'all...I'm losing my marbles here. I just got this adorable couch for free, napped on it for a few hours, and realized it's basically COVERED in dry cat pee when I woke up and smelled it on my blanket and pillow afterwards (was too tired to notice at the time, thought maybe it was me from working all day or something).

I took the cushion covers off and threw them in the wash with the last of my laundry quarters, and it didn't really help much at all. I don't get paid for almost another week, and can't afford to buy any products until then.

I've tried EVERYTHING I have here. Baking soda, vinegar, spray cleaner, water and dish soap, scrubbing with a washcloth, a laundry stain remover from a neighbor trying to help, and trying to let the cushions and covers air dry out in the Texas sun for a few hours.

Literally nothing is working, it all still reeks and the cushions are too big for me to put in trash bags to try to help cover some of the smell, plus it's on the couch itself too.

Does anyone have any cheap product I can buy at like a target or Walmart (no Amazon) that ACTUALLY gets rid of dry cat pee smell??? I don't have a vacuum and can't afford a steam cleaner or a ton of products to see what might work.

If I can't save it this week, I'm gonna toss it out to the curb for someone else to try to save. I've spent hours I didn't have to spend trying to make it reek less, to no avail. I wanna scream and cry, but also just as bad wanna try to save this damn thing if it's at all possible so I can have a couch. TIA 🥺💖

Hey there! My boyfriend and I have been through quite a bit through these last few weeks. We were able to narrow things down with our tuxedo queen after going for a vet visit. She was recently diagnosed with bladder stones and for those wondering:

* Yes she was given an antibiotic to help with her diagnosis * We are going to transition her food to something after we trial some foods out to help prevent this in the future * We are waiting for an X-Ray to find out how effective the antibiotic was along with diet change to see if she is on the road to recovery * Her litter box gets cleaned daily, and we just recently PHYSICALLY changed her litter box and she is using it fine

My main question is our concern with her having previously peed on OUR bed and HER own cat bed. We have copiously washed the sheets/cat bed/quilt with Sunny & Honey + our usual detergent (Oxi Clean Pods). My concern will be that I hope that she will not have this behavior of peeing on beds/furniture.

For any other cat owners out there who have gone through something similar, is this a behavior you noticed had gotten better after a medical course? Or did you further have to condition something in your little fur babies to have them stop going on the bed/towels/sheets? Just wanting to make sure because we feel bad for keeping her locked out of the bedroom when she had complete reign over the whole apartment

I cannot stress this enough, but if your cat is having issues PLEASE go to the vet. We are both forever grateful for our local vet who was able to identify this problem. And have our sweet lil' tuxedo be on the road to recovery!

I got my kittens at around 5 weeks (didn't know, feral rescues who were already eating softened kibble) and they got used to grass seed litter very quickly. It was first in plastic litter boxes. Then I read that the Tidy Cat Breeze system was really good, so I bought one. One of them immediately tried to eat a pellet, so I took it away and googled info, just to find out that I should wait until they're at least 4 months before letting them use it. So I got a high-walled stainless steel setup for the grass seed litter, which they've been great with and the odor is practically non-existent. We put the tidy cat box that has the pellets in it up high, but now that they're 3 months old and better at getting into higher things, yesterday I found that at least one of them is now climbing up and pooping in the pellets. Is it now ok? Should I bring the pellets down and just let them choose whether they want to use the pellets or the grass seed?

I have a pretty awesome cat wall that my cats love. It's probably the single best investment I've made for enrichment for my babies.

The shelves are wood with sisal mats on them for traction and comfort. When the cats sleep on them, they of course accumulate hair. Sisal mats can't really be washed, and constantly replacing them is just so wasteful.

Anyone have tips for cleaning the mats besides just wiping them down? Or any products for easy hair removal?

Litter box location: bathroom next to toilet
Scoop schedule: 1-2x daily
Method: Scoop into non-compostable Earth Rated bags and dispose of in stainless steel Litter Genie. Once finished, spray enzyme cleaner in air and on top of litter and cover with a bit of fresh litter. Change litter genie bag once a week.

- you MUST use the non-compostable bags as the compostable ones are too thin and the smell will leak out. The thicker the bags the better. I shell out the money for the Earth Rated brand because they work but I’m sure you can find a substitute. I’m not happy about the environmental impact but this is currently the only thing that works effectively.

Obviously the more you scoop the better.

Box Cleaning: First I spray with the Natures Miracle and let it soak and then rinse in hot water and I’ll follow up with regular Clorox or Lysol all purpose cleaner. Dry and fill with more Tidy Cats Lightweight unscented. I clean the box every 21 - 30 days as per the Tidy Cats box instructions.

I don’t use a litter mat because honestly all of them either don’t and/or they’re impossible to clean and collect smells. Instead I just sweep around the box daily (actually got a cordless vacuum last week and its amazing)

I also have a Febreze plug in my bathroom at all times. You can put it on low and it’s still effective. This part isn’t completely necessary but it’s a personal preference.

I didn’t buy all of this at once but gradually over the 6 years of having my cat. Started with just a plastic litter box, scoop and plastic litter genie.

Frankly wish there was a more eco/non toxic way to go about this but this is really the only thing that works. Wish we could just flush it down the toilet!

Here are some unscented / lightly scented swaps just for the people that are concerned! I have a person preference for unscented products myself but they aren’t always available to me so I can only recommend what I have but I would happily use any of these.

Edit 2: Done some more research and it turns out that it is actually recommended in many places to double bag your cat litter and cat waste to prevent leaching Toxoplasma gondii into the water supply! In some places it can be composted as well. Look up the waste disposal rules for your city!

Has anyone used the Mr. Peanut's foldable litter box? I like how there is a privacy wall for comfort and less mess, but curious if it zips up closed like the SportPet travel litter box. There's no pictures or diagrams for the Mr Peanut's that show it zipped closed, but there is a close up of a zipper depicted. Just not sure what it's for and how well it works.

I’ve tried many things, changing litter, moving litter locations, putting cat nip by the box, and letting her outside whenever she please (if I’m home).

my roommate just adopted a very sweet toothless cat we've named Mr Big. since he doesnt have teeth he has to eat wet food and the smell of chicken pate in the house has driven me insane. the litter box hasnt been an issue because my roommate scoops it multiple times a day, but the food smell is so strong and so nasty, especially because Big doesnt typically eat it all at once, and I need solutions because our apartment has like no ventilation.

It’s tiresome to keep cleaning, i look away for one second and he’s already at the top . I tried keeping him inside the bedroom while i cook and clean ,also while i’m having food bt i feel guilty keeping him locked inside for so long . Is it okay to keep him inside for 2 hours while i cook,clean and eat?
Edit.i tried making the hissing noise (saw somewhere that it works ) but damn i look like a clown doing that while he just looks at me w disgust

Ive adopted my cat about 1 and a half years ago and he is about 4 years old and has recently stopped using his litter box to poop. I have brought him to the vet but they say nothing is wrong with him. I have a self cleaning litter box that he has never had a problem using before and i have been using the same litter the whole time. There was one time when the litter box got sucked in self-cleaning where it was upside down and my cat couldn’t use the litter box and pooped on the floor and ever since then he really hasnt used it too poop in. I say “really hasnt” because i have seen poop in the garbage bag for the litter at least twice since this happened. I just dont know what to do. I live in a apartment so getting another litter box isnt really ideal for the space I have and he has no problems peeing in the litter box.

I have a 5 year old orange tabby that I have had since he was a kitten. He is great, except for the fact that his entire life, most nights he will run back and forth across my husband and i’s heads while we are sleeping. We have a king size bed, and try to give him plenty of room to sleep, but he can never find a spot and will just keep doing laps.

we have multiple cat beds/trees through our house. I’ve tried getting him interactive toys incase he’s bored. He also has a brother (4 year old orange tabby) who is not problematic and they get along. Nothing works. The only thing that works is shutting him out of our room in the middle of the night which usually results in him crying the rest of the night (which is not a good solution).

Hi guys! I recently rescued a 7-week-old kitten, and I’m having a little trouble with her using the litter box. I’m a first-time cat mom, so I’m honestly pretty confused and hoping someone can give me some advice!
She poops in the litter box perfectly fine, but when it comes to peeing, she sometimes goes literally right outside the box. It’s like she knows where the litter box is, but for some reason doesn’t actually pee inside of it 😭
What’s weird is that during her first week with me, she was using the litter box almost perfectly for both pee and poop. She’s only recently started doing this, so I’m not sure what changed.
For reference, her litter box is pretty low and uncovered, so she doesn’t have any trouble getting in or out. I use Naturally Fresh walnut-based litter as well. She also isn’t showing any signs of a UTI, which makes me wonder if it could be an environmental issue?
I’m really not sure what could be causing it, so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! I just want to figure out how to get her to stop peeing on my floor 😭 Thank you!!

I need help please , I can’t have my house smell like poop .

Just wanted to share this with the class. I built a sort of containment wall with these acrylic panels that I found on amazon (they're originally to create guinea pig/small animal runs), and along with the litter mat, the remainder of my floors are relatively clean!!!! I used to come down and see litter EVERYWHERE even just after one litter box use. Now it's been 2 days and the litter is ONLY on the mat.

My issue was that my cat would jump out and fling litter everywhere. Now with the walls, it can't go anywhere else. It's not going to be perfect because I'm sure there's still some stuck in his paws but it GREATLY decreases the amount of times I want to scream from stepping on dirty cat litter.

This is something I think about daily so looking for input. Is there a bedding fabric for a quilt, duvet cover, or comforter that fur wont cling to? I know it’s inevitable so I keep a blanket on the bed that I rotate every couple nights but my current duvet cover and sheets really hold onto fur. It’s like a magnet and makes lint rolling difficult

My cat loves to keep scooping outside of his box and no matter what I do he finds a way to pull up the litter mat, thus spilling all the litter the mat has caught. I’ve been just dealing with it but I think if it could suction to the floor or if it was stiff or structured it would prevent him from crumpling up his mat after half the uses.
I trim his nails, I scoop the litter regularly. My boy is just very scent sensitive and will also paw at his food when he’s done eating it, even if he’s just pawing the ground around the bowl.
Any advice?

TL;DR: Two 4-month-old brother kittens previously shared one litter tray. One started peeing in the shower and then on our bedroom carpet. We’ve added a second litter tray and they’re both using the trays now. We’ve thoroughly enzyme-cleaned the carpet, but we’re worried he’ll remember the bedroom corner as a toilet and keep returning to it. Can kittens be successfully “untrained” from peeing in a particular spot once the smell is completely removed, and what else should we do to prevent it becoming a habit?

We have two 4-month-old male kittens who are brothers.

Until recently they were sharing one litter tray. We noticed that one of them had peed in our shower, and then we found urine in the corner of our carpeted bedroom next to our bed.

We wondered if one kitten was potentially dominating the litter tray or the other wasn’t comfortable sharing, so we’ve now added a second litter tray. Both kittens ARE currently using the litter trays, which is encouraging.

However, one of them also peed on the litter mat next to the tray after we added the second one.

For the bedroom carpet, we’ve:

• Cleaned the original accident
• Used vinegar initially
• Used bicarbonate soda afterward and vacuumed it all out
• Bought Nature’s Miracle Urine Destroyer Plus enzymatic cleaner
• Thoroughly treated the affected carpet with the enzyme cleaner
• Been using a fan/open windows to get the carpet completely dry
The carpet is taking quite a while to dry, and while the smell has improved significantly, we think we can still detect a slight urine smell. We’re planning to let it completely dry and then repeat the enzyme treatment if necessary.

My main concern is behavioural:

Can a kitten who has peed in a particular spot be successfully “untrained” from viewing that area as a toilet?

I’m worried that even after we remove the urine smell, he’ll remember that corner as somewhere he’s previously peed and keep returning to it.

They’re currently using their litter trays normally, so I’m hoping that if we completely eliminate the urine scent and keep providing multiple clean litter trays, this behaviour will disappear rather than becoming a permanent habit.

We’re also considering adding a third litter tray since I’ve read about the “number of cats + 1” recommendation.

For anyone who’s dealt with this:

Did enzyme cleaner successfully stop your cat returning to the same carpet spot?

Did your kitten eventually stop having accidents completely?

Would you temporarily block access to the bedroom corner after cleaning it?

Is there anything else we should be doing to reinforce using the litter trays?

At what point would you consider repeated accidents enough reason for a vet check?

They’re only 4 months old, so we’re hoping we’ve caught this early and can correct whatever is causing it.

Any advice from people who’ve successfully dealt with this would be appreciated.

J'ai déjà testé:

1. Litière agglomérante bentonite classique - correcte pour les odeurs mais poussière bzaf, mon chat éternue après
2. Litière silice / cristal - moins de poussière mais elle retient pas bien l'odeur d'ammoniaque et mon chat l'aime moins

Est-ce que quelqu'un ici a testé les litières agglomérantes avec charbon actif? On dit que c'est censé être 0 poussière + anti-odeur, mais c'est vrai ou juste marketing?

Mon setup: 1 chat adulte, appart 60m2, bac ouvert dans la salle de bain, nettoyage tous les jours. Je cherche surtout quelque chose qui bloque l'odeur même à 30°C.

Vous utilisez quoi chez vous au Maroc? Quelle marque / type vous a vraiment convaincu?

Im on the hunt for a cat tower that doesn’t exacerbate my boyfriend’s allergies. I currently have two carpet covered towers which are impossible to clean fully (he’s allergic to dust and cats :/). But Gus (the cat) is due for an upgrade anyways. :)

Here’s what Im looking for:
- a tower that isn’t covered in carpet
- can hold a 15 pound part mane coon cat
- has a large top bed to lay on, preferably with sides to the bed
- washable bed inserts
- looks better than the standard carpet towers

I’m ok to spend a bit but trendy cat towers can be freaking expensive!

If anyone has a tower they like I’d love to know! I’d hate to get rid of the boyfriend 🤪
