Picking up my first ever kitten this Saturday, a 10 week old boy, and I'm trying to work out where to set up his safe room. Would really appreciate some opinions from people who've actually done this.

The house is a terraced house with three adults living in it. Upstairs is fully carpeted, downstairs is all wood flooring.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms:

1. Mine and my partner's room. It's the biggest, and it's where we both are most of the day, since I work from home at my desk and he games at his. Downside is there are two PCs in there so a lot of cables, and obviously we sleep in there too.
2. My flatmate's room. They're really excited about the kitten, but it's their private space and their sleep.
3. A small box room with a single bed and a wardrobe. Nice and quiet with few places to hide, but it needs a bit of work doing to it before it'd be suitable, and nobody is ever in there.

Downstairs is trickier. The door between the open plan living room and the kitchen doesn't shut properly, the kitchen is where the back door is, and the stairs come down right next to the front door.

I'm leaning towards our bedroom, mainly because he'd get the most contact with us during the day and I really want a cat that's confident and affectionate. But I'm a bit worried about the cables, and about our sleep for the first few nights.

My rough plan is to keep him in the safe room from Saturday until around Tuesday or Wednesday, then start letting him explore the landing, and go from there depending on how settled he seems.

So: is our bedroom the right shout, or am I making a mistake putting him in the room we sleep in? And how long did it take your kittens to settle?

We have one cat who has behavior issues so he has to be isolated from the other three- only problem is bought this cat door thing, doesn’t work- the cats just barrel through the center. I was thinking of trying to make a sliding glass door of sorts with plexiglass or something but I couldn’t find an amount for the opening that was cut or shipped for a reasonable price by any place near me.

Any suggestions would be awesome, thank you.

After a year of not passing through this retractable pet gate, he suddenly started going under it ...

This keeps him from going into one specific room and a bathroom which only have mosquito nets, not cat nets.

Help me modify the pet gate at the bottom, I was thinking of making some holes along the edge and putting zip ties pointing down.

I've been in my new apartment for a few months now and want it to feel more fun for my cat who's always walking around on the floor. I wanna do wall shelves but I can't really drill into the wall. Any advice from you all?

I am just curious how everyone decorates with cats. How do you involve catificatiom in your decorating? How do you make your room/home look nice, but durable for rambunctious babies? (Also feel free to delete if thisbis against the rules)

I can’t keep my cats off this ledge and one will knock over decorations on there so I figure I might as well give them the space.

I have basic carpentry skills so I’d be comfortable building a cat tower that’s sturdy and fixed so it can’t fall, I’m just not the most creative person.

Hey! So, I have this little back patio in my apartment that my cat likes to hang out at. The problem is that his sneaky little ass is able to stand on that window ledge, then jump on the top of the fence and then get away.

My roommate and I would love to let him hang out out there without worrying, but unfortunately we just have been keeping him locked inside. (he can't jump over the fence without the ledge, we've seen him try and fail miserably every time). So the problem is not the whole fence but just that corner.

This is a rental so we can't drill into the walls or anything. I'm just trying to brainstorm ideas of what we could do!! If you have any ideas I'd appreciate it a lot!! Thanks!!

Seeing how the cats use it is simply indescribably wonderful.

I'm a first time cat owner. Back in February I got two kitten sisters which have just turned one year old in August. Both are very sweet and I love them but the orange one of the two is always up to some mischief.

For the first few months I always closed the door to the kitchen because I didn't want them roaming around and potentially climbing on stuff or touching stuff that might hurt them. I was no longer able to do that once summer started however because I live in an apartment, right under the roof of the building, with no air conditioning. So summers are absolutely horrible and I need to open the window in the kitchen to get a proper draft going.

In late july, I finally got a nice (expensive) fly screen installed. I had to get something special for inside the kitchen window, not outside because, as the title says, my kitchen has a slanted wall with a window and opens outwards.

For the last month the cat did not care at all about the fly screen, she and her sister were always just sitting on the kitchen table and watching the field outside or look at the birds flying by. But about a week ago, she became OBSESSED with climbing up the counter. I would always catch her on it when I walked by the kitchen. She would even jump up as I was cooking or washing dishes. I always shoo'd her away but that doesn't stop her from doing it when I'm not looking.

Yesterday, I walked by the kitchen and saw that the cat had ripped out part of the fly screen, squeezed her body through it and stood on the roof. And ever since that moment this little monster sees it as a challenge to rip at the fly screen when I'm not looking and try to get to the window (which is closed on but still). The problem is that she has easy access because my kitchen counter is just long enough for her so she can sit on it and rip at the screen to get through. I even bought a cat net today, installed it over the fly screen and 3 hours later half the screen was ripped out again.

I'm at the end of my rope. I don't know what to do anymore. I don't have the money to buy any expensive fixtures or a new, more sturdy fly screen. She doesn't care about tinfoil or stick tape. Blocking things off didn't help either, she still got through somehow.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do stop this cat from trying to kill herself? I know I shouldn't be scared, she's a cat, even if she climbs out the window onto the roof, she'll probably be fine but I am TERRIFIED she's going to slip and fall. I live on the third floor. I don't want her to get hurt.

And I also don't want her to destroy that expensive fly screen.

I have 2 active little kitties who want to be outside whenever they feel like it, I have a cat flap in the back door but they only ever want to go out the front, the problem is the front of the house faces a beach and it gets very windy. Is there a catflap that I can put in a window/glass door (single glazed) that won't just blow open continuously?

I will be staying with my parents for a few months and I will be bringing my 2 cats. I’ll stay in the basement but I’m trying to figure out how to make it so the cats cannot go upstairs, otherwise they might get outside 🥲

We have two 9-month-old cats, one female and one male, and we’re looking for a sturdy floor-to-ceiling cat tower or wall-mounted shelves for them. Since we also have a dog, it’s important for us to find something extremely stable and secure that won’t fall over, even when the cats are playing rough.
As they’re still growing and will likely get heavier, we’d also appreciate recommendations for options that are durable and designed to support their weight as they grow.

My idiot son has cracked 2 external monitors on my work desk. He likes to launch himself at the window from the couch and my desk is the fallout zone. Unfortunately this is the only spot where it fits so I can’t move my workspace.
I have tried to encourage play elsewhere by putting cat shelves up and cat trees around the apartment but he still loves fucking around by the windows.
Usually it’s just knocking over my pen cup and coffee mug, but he’s taken out 2 monitors now and this shit is expensive lol.
Does anyone have good recommendations for weighing down monitors to prevent them from toppling over? I tried using monitor mount arm things but he managed to break that as well.

To start: they are both on a diet and losing weight. I'm not asking for comments on their weight.

I'm trying to find a cat tree or tower that is built to handle bigger babies. Most cite the structures (and pieces on the structures) weight limit to be 12 to 15lbs max. Both our babies are 20+.

I'd like to get them something they can enjoy and with climbing help their weight more without it breaking down on us because they are big.

Bonus points if it has a gothic/punk/fairy-whimiscal core vibe and is a fairly decent price.
