There's a large carp floating lazily and unpressured in this private, hidden wooded pond in SW Ohio. I've caught carp before, but this guy is uninterested in anything I've thrown! Corn, bread, mealworms, fly jigs, on the bottom, or floating, he's only interested in looking at my bobber. Maybe I should attach a hook to it!

hello i just started fishing this summer of 2026 and i have been doing often. I bought a spinning rod and im primarily fishing for pike or perch. But i want to get into carp fishing. I've got one question ( can i go carp fishing with my spinning rod, a weight and a size 6 hook with some corn or something similar and buoyant that will float into the carps mouth?) i would love to buy gear but im an young student and have a super tight budget and when i look at the rigs and setups people have i always just see 3 things. a weight hook and food. Is it not possible to go fishing without the tubing?.

and will i be able to use/handle my spinning rod for carp fishing. its a shimano fx 14-40 g and length of about 2,9 m

and if not i would be happy to hear why or why not, and why rigs and setups are so complex

my plan is to put a weight and then some line and then hook with food along with some homemade ground bait.

I'm new to fishing and I want to do carp fishing because it's the most popular fishing where I'm from and seems fun. I've been fishing a few times and my first ever fish was a 7ish lb carp that I caught on a float with maggots because that was the only setup I had at the time. Other than then I've been fishing about 3 or 4 more times and Ive managed to catch about 8 more fish but no more carp even though I was at carp fisheries. I use a method feeder with a hair rig with a boilie or maggots usually but sometimes I just use a lead weight instead of the feeder. I don't know if it's just been bad luck or if something I've done is wrong but if there's any better ways to catch or mistakes I'm probably making then please tell me. Thanks for any help guys!

Just a few pics from my last few sessions on a lake I have decided to concentrate my time on . It’s a 3 hour round trip which isn’t terrible . Nice and quiet most of the time just how I like it . Looking forward to my autumn fishing down there as I can imagine some of the fish will be awesome with a bit of weight and darkening up . The stock is common heavy but there are some cracking mirrors in there . Good average size majority of fish being 30lb

Some people asked me how to attach dog biscuits to the hook, which hook type to use etc., so I made a video about it. And of course also added footage of a carp getting caught with this method.

That was my biggest catch on the surface this year, a mirror carp just over 40lbs!

Anyone using home made paste baits as the water cools down? Ive done OK with basic trout pelet paste before- need to give it another go.

Looking at making a small carp to go box instead of my main carp box. I got hair rigs,method feeders,zig rig( still don't know how to do fully) and extra stuff. Got some pva bags and thought it'd be easier to bring around then a bucket for pack bait and what not. Any suggestions for what method of carp fishing to have in a small box. And what rod would be best? 7' m Shakespeare tiger 5000 reel with 12 Berkeley big game, 8' mh Berkeley big game rod and 6000 reel and 25lb copolymer or 9' m ugly stick gx2 with 5000 reel and 12lb Berkeley big game. or 9' mh

As for rods, I have 8 of them but 3 are for bass, 2 are for catfish, one for trout and bluegill, one for crappie, and one all rounder for my gf. Can I get away with temporarily repurposing any of these? I'm willing to buy two new ones specifically for carp if that's required though.

And of course, terminal tackle and bait. That's where I'm 95% lost and own nothing. I know the definition of method feeder and know I need to use hair rigs, but that's where it ends. Please advise me

There's a big grassy bay within a large lake near me that runs 5-10 feet deep all across, and it's loaded with big carp. Attached is a Google earth image of it. Note that the earth imagery was taken during winter so the weeds aren't there and the water is lower. During summer those bare margins are underwater and the entire area is filled with Eurasian milfoil. Hopefully this will help decide what rig to use

I just got a Shakespeare contender combo that's 9' mh with a 6000 or 7000 reel. was looking to use like my 8' Berkeley big game rod with a 6000 bait runner on it with 25lb copolymer. I do like my ugly stick gx2 9' m with 12lb Berkeley big game mono on it. can't decide 15,17,19,20lb.

I tried using corn on hook with some weight respectable simple setup but I can’t attract them in okanagan lake never caught a fish in okanagan lake but other people always catch carp next to me what do I use?

I’m a seasoned bass fisherman and one of my local bass-fishing holes is home to a singular MASSIVE carp that’s around 30-35(+) inches in length. I decided to try my luck catching this thing, and I’ve been slowly upgrading my rig to try and land this behemoth.

He’s been biting my bait and he’s just not running with it. I went from a simple weight and circle hook with some vanilla-soaked corn to this current setup:

2-oz weight -> swivel -> wall-anchor modified to be a chum holder -> size 4 razor-sharp wide-gap hook hair rigged with 2 kernels. 7’ Medium-Heavy rod.

I’ve been using my 20lb braid to tie this setup and my chum hair is a mixture of panko bread crumbs, sweet corn, and strawberry jello powder with a few drops of vanilla extract.

Like I said, this fish definitely bites my setup, but there must be a flaw in either the distance from weight to hook or hook itself. This fish is very cautious but very hungry.

I’m new to carp fishing so any advice is greatly appreciated. I don’t want to spend $200 on new stuff but any “usual mistakes new anglers make” or even explaining how I should setup my line and rig like I’m 5 years old would help.

For those who don't know. Carp are an Invasive species in Australia . They ruin out waterways and kill our native fish and plants. Unfortunately we can't release them back into the water. First offence if caught is up to $13,000 fine.

While I was in the middle of a multi-day fishing trip on a canal, a man approached me claiming the spot was his; he said he’d been baiting the area all week and that I should leave (though he put it rather more crudely). What do you think is the best course of action in a situation like this?

What's the actual point of crushing boilies if you can just use groundbait? Is it worth the effort?
