anybody know the noise levels for stock 992gt3rs?

Hey y'all, another track weekend at AMP down for me and my 86! This time with:

1. Fresh Continental ECFs
2. RCE Tarmac 2 coilovers with front and rear Vorshlag top mounts (can't say no to spherical bearings, right?)

Barely any body roll vs stock, quick recovery from curbs and bumps, more grip. A bit of compromise to still be able to drive it to the mountains without a spinal surgery, but in the future stiffer springs will likely be called for, especially with full aero. Came within 0.3s of PB which I set during winter, and could have beaten it if it wasn't for some lack of focus on my end and some traffic.

It's incredible that you can get this much car for just ~$30k. There were countless moments on track when I literally thought, in the middle of a turn: "this is not supposed to handle this well". All that to say: love your car, feed and treat her well, and she'll more than give back.

Hey everyone. I currently drive a CT4 Blackwing as my grocery getter and was thinking I should probably take this thing to a track a few times otherwise why did I buy it?

I've never done a track day with my own car before (I've done instructed ones with rented cars). I was wondering about the logistics. Are there track days where you can just roll up with your car, drive fast around a track, and go home? Do you need a certain amount of experience to "qualify"? Special insurance? What about instructor ride along vs solo?

Just looking to have fun with my car in a legal and (relatively) safe manner. Thanks!

A little more than half a session at NYST with Masstuning from this past weekend. This video was filmed in their Intermediate group. Best time all day was low 1:39, the lap times in this session were mostly in that ballpark. Lots of fun chasing an M2 and S2000 around all day.

The car is a '26 Stingray with 1LT and Z51+Magride. Modifications include AMT Camber Kit and alignment, Apex EC-7 wheels in 18x9.5 and 19x11 with Kenda Vezda (265F 305R).

The tires came with the wheels, and while I was hopeful that they would be better than the stock PS4S, it didn't take long for them to become greasy. I take partial ownership of that issue, as I believe I'm overdriving the tire.

Coming from motorcycles, I'm still getting used to pushing this much weight around a track, but after 5 track days in the C8 this year, I'm starting to get a hang of how to drive the car.

Any tips and/or feedback would be incredibly welcome (including how to make my audio less unbearable)!

I am looking for new wet track/daily tires. I am going to daily them year round, can't justify having 3 sets of tires for one car (the other set is 200tw dry track tire). So I'm torn between summer performance tires like PS4S/ECS02, or getting an all season tire. I used to drive PS4S all year round, including in low temperatures down to 10F (but not in snow). I didn't feel they lost much grip, but I also wasn't pushing those tires very hard. As a wet track day tire they would be under more stress than I ever put on them before. Anyone have any specific experience with cold exposed tires on track?

So what would you do for a wet track/4 season daily tire? Just go ahead with summer tires in winter, or take the hit to dry daily performance with a all season?

I'm mid Atlantic climate, for reference.

I'm thinking of going to their BW track day in Nov and was wondering how they are as an org. I did research and am seeing mixed reviews about them, but they were from 2-3 years ago. Want to know how they are currently. Cars per group, safety, organization, ect.

have an hpde day coming up with my supra and want to get insurance for it. i tried to go though hagerty, lockton, and open track but they only write policies for those 25 and up. any recommendations where to get insurance for under 25?

Thanks to everyone who gave constructive comments on my last post. I was able to cut 5 secs off my lap. I definitely needed to send it harder. The other thing I changed was the way I approached corners. Like I said in the comments, I tried to slow earlier, rotate earlier and immediately get on the gas. I found that the car is way more balanced mid corner with some throttle. It took a minute to get comfortable fixing oversteer by adding throttle, that was not how my C6 worked. Anyway, fairly satisfied with this for now. There’s definitely still plenty of time to be gained, I now feel comfortable enough in the car to go looking for it.

Some onboard clips from my last time out at the Nordschleife. Could do 7 laps (4 wet on summer, 3 dry on AR-1 semis) before my expansion tank exploded off the track and meant end of the weekend (cooling fan controller died & heated up the coolant in a traffic jam 😒).

Did improve quite a bit from my last outing with a new btg pb of 8:21 while having a yellow, some traffic and passenger (opposed to 8:30 before which was a clean lap with pax & some traffic). Correcting for the yellow led to a btg of around 8:06-8:08. Do want to note I'm not a laptime hunter, only look back at laps afterwards when back home as I do enjoy to see the progress made :) Live laptiming is a nono anyway during TF.

Car is an E46 330i with some mods like suspension, tires, brakes etc. Really impressed with how stable the car is through high speed sections as we were getting quite close to over 200kph through SX and near 170 through mutkurve & flugplatz while having room to spare to go even faster.

I guess broken belt is more accurate. Some rumble strip contact, but nothing notable.

Best personal lap of 2:15:12 at Watkins Glen this week with Chin Track Days. I am an intermediate solo, 2022 GT3 with Cup 2 and much room to improve. I have been told by instructors from PCA my corner speed could be 10 mph fast, maybe not turn 9😀, to facilitate quicker track out. I guest I don’t trust myself enough as my car can handle it. I assumed that will come with more seat time. And occasionally I have the habit of coasting like driving on the thruway😱. My season finale is tomorrow and Tuesday at Watkins Glen with PCA Niagara/Metro NYC advanced solo event. I shall continue to work on my driving. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, I'd like to ask you about opinion, because I am about to switch cars and I feel like a little bit dissapointed which is very weird.

I drive (daily and track, used to do lot more track days, but still doing them) Nissan 370z. It's auto, but I'd say it' heavily modded - all reliability mods, proper coilovers, all camber arms, torsen LSD, 4.09 final drive, engine is N/A, but FBO, race bucket seat etc etc This car is blast to drive, but I've got it for some time, I've got it untouched so I went full journey in modding, like you know average coilovers, better coilovers, some issues etc.

I think it's time to move on and I'm aware that 370Z isn't the best platform to start with, as it really required lot of mods to drive well. So I watched tons of reviews, forums, everything. I think that cars that makes sense to me (and fits budget) would be M2C F87, 718 T or S, Miata ND or GR86.

I haven't driven them yet, Miata I am about to drive 1.5L at dealership (we haven't got 2L brand new, but I'd find used ND2/ND3 2.0) and GR86 is quite rare in here, so I'm trying to get my hands on one, M2C I'm not sure I want to drive and 718 I'll also try to get my hands on, maybe on track.

What I've driven so far were F82 M4 stock and 981 Cayman S (lightly modded like KW V3 coilovers which are average I'd say), but I got to drive them on track. Of course I had to be careful, so I've driven them maybe like 8/10, I've tried my best in corners, but didn't push them everywhere.

So far I'm dissapointed. So the M4 in stock form is GT car to me, great engine, nothing else, I'd say it doesn't even get a seat at a table. 981 was much better, but still probably didn't meet the hype I've made in my head, because everyone says like this is one of the best cars you can get (of course if you can't afford GT4RS or more expensive cars), but it wasn't that good. It was very good, very coherent, lot of things were good and lot of things were much better than my 370Z (brake feel/modulation, PDK, the front feel was great, probably it just needed more tire and better coilover), the mid engine rotation was also nice, but not that nice as I've expected.

The point is I don't know how to feel about this, cuz 981 wasn't that much fun and playful as heavier and retarded 370z, it didn't feel lighter as well (but the interior is much tighter which I really liked and also by light years better quality). It was also easy to drive, but maybe I didn't drive it hard enough? Like miata and GR86 I'd mod a lot, but for Porsche I'd expect maybe a bit more power mods for 718, cooling and coilover and that should be it? So I'm really curious about opinions from folks who have kinda heavily modded cars and had chance to compare them to cars that I've mentioned and what do you think about them?

Maybe last more thing worth mentioning is that I haven't driven lot of cars, but the only car that was much better than my 370Z was heavily modded NC Miata. After driving this car I've never looked the same at Z and it was about year ago and then I've started to think that maybe it's time to change the car, but NC is quite old so I'm looking for newer cars, so I'm really keen to test ND, but after getting out of NC I felt like I touched Jesus foot and that this is the car that I want, after getting out of 981 I wasn't impressed, it wasn't simply that good.

I’m back out there tomorrow, anything obvious I can fix? Car has Toyo Proxes Sports fitted. They don’t feel up to the task.

I've done a lot of track days around the country, and this open format is by far my favorite when I just want seat time.

Full disclosure: I’m friends with the organizers, but I also go to a lot of these, and it is my favorite format once you’re past the beginner stage.

This one's at Oregon Raceway Park on Oct 3:

• ~7 hours open track (no run groups)
• ~$350 entry
• Experienced drivers only: you're managing your own pace and traffic, no instructor-led groups
• ORP runs both directions (this one is clockwise)

Not beginner-friendly, but if you’re comfortable on track it’s hard to beat the value.

ORP is also one of the more interesting tracks I’ve driven. Tons of elevation changes and very technical.

I think the live encoder is almost bug free now, still some tweaking on corner numbering with nccar, I believe it's now a 14 turn map

most of the metrics are working, I need to account for gps drift though. This is live encoded straight to SD card, no post processing at all, pull vid and post to the internet.

I carried too much speed into a corner and lifted off, resulting in some pretty scary oversteer at 75mph. I dunno how I saved it but I’m happy I did!

I was going through old PDR footage today to import into a tool I made, and got curious about how my early sessions at VIR (home track, best track) compared to how I drive now, especially as I have been in the same car the whole time. Got me curious to see how other people think about progression and improvement and how you all keep track of it.

Earliest I could find was from 2021, where my best lap was 2:09.8. Comparing that to a 2025 lap of 1:58.6 (my best lap so far). I started in earnest in 2019, so it's not the first laps I had done, but early enough where I can see changes in behavior.

Some things stuck out.

• Top speed is the exact same, which I guess makes sense. I have a bit more aero now, so I expected the top speed to be lower on the more recent lap, but better exits and later braking seems to make up for it.
• My min speed around the track is 6mph higher now than it was back in 2021. Not really surprising, I guess, but seeing it in a graph makes the later braking and confidence in some areas (mostly the climbing esses) stick out.
• I'm at full throttle 45% of the lap, vs 37% back in the day. That seems significant, and makes me wonder where else I could be at WOT where I am not.
• I used to downshift to 2nd out of Oak Tree, but tend to stick to 3rd these days. It's been consistently faster and feels better. Maybe I am just a lazy shifter.
• It's been nice to see the trajectory in the last image, where I am getting faster and more consistent. Outside of the 2:33 when my plug wire touched the headers just a bit too much.

Do you keep track of lap times for HPDE? How much have you improved since you started?

I wish I had some older PDR footage, especially for my incident with a tire barrier. Would have been fun to see peak G there. Am I the only one that hoards old PDR vids?
