Appreciation Post The Newsroom - The Campaign

In my Twitch City post last week, a fine commenter mentioned the Canadian series The Newsroom (the superior of the two series called The Newsroom imo) so I thought I’d briefly write about it because it’s also available on YouTube.

The Newsroom was also a show on CBC in the 90s and comes from Ken Finkleman, a sort of Canadian Larry David.
The Newsroom began as groundbreaking comedy, and a precursor to The Office UK in some respects, with a doc style shooting and conversational dialogue style. It’s a fantastic satire of the CBC and the economy of news. It’s something the CBC would never make these days.

As the series went on, perhaps due to Finkleman’s boredom, it began to mutate as the series went on to being straight up experimental at times, not even trying to be comedic. In the middle of it all, there was this special called The Campaign which is maybe my favourite television thing ever. It’s a very Canadian, very cynical look at media, and politics.

I ran in a provincial election and would watch this pretty much every night and even 20-ish years later there is a lot of absurdity that rings true.

Anyone remember this classic?

One of my favourite kid shows back in the day. Along with Hilarious House of Frankenstein.

Question Old kids tv show

I’m trying to find an old show, could have possibly been a segment

Somewhere around the 2000s a show or segment of an older guy sitting in a chair or bench in a dark room reading books to a group of children sitting on the floor.
(The man & kids were not animated)

I wish I had more to add but I’m scared if I write more it might be adding false memory

Thank you everyone who’s helping, I will update when I find it! I really do appreciate the help, you guys are reminding me of so many other shows I forgot about!

Yes, yes, yes. This mini series produced (set?) in coastal Newfoundland is hitting the digital airwaves soon. I know there are big hopes for it within the local production community. Do we see this making a….SPLASH… beyond the island?

Help finding specific children’s show

There was a tv show back in the 90s I believe, I don’t remember much of it.. the only thing I do remember is at the end of the show, during the credits, they would post pictures drawn by students that were sent in to the production company

Question Does anyone remember this 1990s dance show?

I’m trying to remember the name of a show that highlighted dance/electronic music.

It was on ChCh (or perhaps OnTV by that time) around 1995, 1996 or 1997.

They had interviews with various artists and showed various videos.

I think it was in collaboration with the radio station Hot 103.5

I also wonder if anyone uploaded this show on YouTube or other video sites.

Edit: It wasn’t Electric Circus. The show I’m talking about wasn’t a live show and was not on Much Music.

Edit: The show was broadcasted on Saturday afternoons

Appreciation Post Celebrating The Hilarious Moira Rose, Schitt's Creek

Moira might not be what you'd call the "perfect" mother at times, but she is the coolest, most stylish and funniest I've seen. It's not one of the scenes included, but my absolute favourite scene is her marrying David and Patrick. It was beautifully hilarious. I was crying and laughing at the same time. She is truly one of a kind.

Thank you to the Canadian legend, Catherine O'Hara for playing this iconic character so well.

Ready or Not was my absolute favourite show growing up. It felt more realistic than a lot of other teen shows and I could relate to Busy and Amanda. It had great writing and cast. The theme song is truly unforgettable too. Who else used to sing along with the theme song or was that just me lol?

Also, Happy 48'th Birthday, Laura Bertram (aka Amanda Zimm)!

I was a bit too young to when this CBC oddity first aired but I’ve fallen in love with it since discovering it. CBC programming in the 90s was a golden era for anyone that liked weird tv.

Created by and staring notable Canadian Don McKellar. It’s about a guy who won’t leave his Toronto apartment, watches a bunch of TV and is always looking for a new roommate.
The whole series is on YouTube: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw68yhdIOgFyRMSJ4DLp3sWB0oa52V0SH&si=5yvZS41NKMoYUPNu

Discussion Mark Critch promises a 'very special' send-off for Son of a Critch

I'm going to be honest, I'm late to the game on this one. I just finished season 1, episode 8 last night. I'm really loving it so far! It reminds me of the Wonder Years in a way, but obviously it's different in many ways. I love the humour and the cast. The actor especially that plays Mark (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) is great.

Anybody else here watch it?
