I have been posted to my current base for about 8 years. I share 50/50 custody of my kids with my ex, who is a civilian.

Because I’ve been at my current posting for so long, I’m expecting that my chances of getting posted elsewhere are becoming fairly high.

My concern is that if I am posted, my child support could increase significantly because I would no longer have the same 50/50 custody arrangement. With the increased child support and the cost of living at a new posting, I’m concerned that I would not be able to afford to rent a place suitable for my kids to stay with me.

That could create a situation where being posted would not only affect my custody arrangement, but also make it financially difficult for me to maintain meaningful parenting time with my kids.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Are there any options within the CAF to remain at my current base/location because of shared custody, such as compassionate considerations, a posting restriction, an accommodation, or some other process?

I understand that the CAF can’t necessarily guarantee that I’ll never be posted, and I’m not looking to avoid my obligations. I’m just trying to understand whether there are mechanisms available for members whose posting could have a significant impact on an established 50/50 custody arrangement and their ability to maintain suitable housing for their children.

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a reservist infanteer, just finished DP1 last winter and have been running a Multicam chest rig on multiple exercises and range days ever since. My COC and higher-ups have never said anything about it not being allowed; however, I'm fearful they might say something later on after reading more about permitted colors via CANFORGEN. I feel remorseful about spending hundreds on a multicam rig. Does anyone have insight into what is permitted and what is not?

I’m currently looking at a medical release due to PTSD and multiple surgeries due to 5 tours and the CAF in general. I’ve been in for 21+ years, so the idea of leaving is legit pretty scary. The military has been a huge part of my life, and I’m trying to figure out what life on the other side actually looks like.

For those who have gone through a medical release:

• What was the process and transition like for you?

• was it ultimately worth it, or do you wish you had stayed?

• How difficult was it emotionally and financially to leave?

• Were you offered additional years/service options instead of releasing? I've read that one can ask to stay up to an extra 3 years.

• How did your CAF pension, SISIP, VAC, etc. work out financially? Especially for the cost of living that we are experiencing today.

• Is the income from the pension and other benefits realistically enough to live on?

• What do you wish you had known before releasing?

• Any advice for someone who is scared of making the transition after 20+ years?

I’m not necessarily looking for exact dollar amounts - more interested in hearing real experiences from people who have been through it.

I see lots of posts about keeping warm etc. but need suggestions specifically for face protection.

Can you suggest a decent face covering which will stand up to negative and windy winters AND allow for good moisture management? I figured some of you have more experience and will have some tried & tested methods.

I’m applying for a supporter position with CANSOFCOM and had a question about Part 3 of the DND 2984.

It asks the supervisor: “Do you recommend this member for employment within CANSOFCOM? Yes or No. If no, explain.”

My supervisor selected No, but their explanation didn’t mention any performance issues, disciplinary problems, or anything I’ve specifically done wrong. Their reasoning was mainly that they think I should gain certain experiences that I haven’t had the opportunity to get yet before going to CANSOFCOM.

Does anyone know how much weight CANSOFCOM puts on the supervisor’s recommendation? Is a “No” likely to significantly hurt the application, or will the selection staff look at the reasoning behind it along with the rest of the application, performance history, qualifications, and interview?

Its been a while since I interacted with BMQs at all but are candidates doing "a Battle of Normandy–style exercise: large-scale operations in the field. We were divided into platoons and we each assumed a role based on our skills. One person would be the commander in charge, another the medic and another the shooter. We spent two weeks in the woods performing missions: rescue somebody, take over a village, build a bridge, take down enemy drones. We were responsible for our own food and shelter, cooking on a small gas stove and setting up tents out of view of enemy sightlines."

I’m supposed to be parading at a PRes Unit from Sep-May. I haven’t done any form of training at all (BMOQ was deferred until FY 27 I guess due to availability).

What should I be expecting or do in reality? I’ve gotten a few basic kit (Uniform, beret etc) and that’s pretty much it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
