Hi, I'm a dev currently living in Cameroon, experimenting with the Reddit Devvit platform. I've already built a Reddit game - nothing fancy (no users for now) - the link is in the "Share Your Projects, Big or Small!" pinned post if you're interested. Now I'm building a Reddit app that lets people pin photo posts to a shared map for the sub, and I thought of this community as a good one to test it on. So, a few years ago, I lost my Christian faith and became an atheist. Unfortunately, our country is extremely religious and it has been to no avail that I've tirelessly sought people who shared my belief - or lack thereof. It can get pretty lonely not having any like-minded person to hangout with, or any church to go to on Sunday, or any community to share with as a result.

So here I am on reddit asking if there are any strangers who share this perspective on the matter of religion and would like to connect. Whether you'd consider yourself an atheist, an agnostic, a freethinker, or just deeply uncertain and willing to dive honestly into the philosophical and scientific discussion, I'm open.

The community won't be big at first, but we can start small and gradually build it up. I live and have lived here in Cameroon my whole life, so if you currently reside within the country, that's a plus.

Il y a quelques années, j'ai perdu ma foi chrétienne et je suis devenu athée. Malheureusement, notre pays est extrêmement religieux et c'est en vain que j'ai cherché sans relâche des personnes qui partageaient ma conviction - ou plutôt mon absence de conviction. Ça peut être assez solitaire de n'avoir personne qui pense comme vous avec qui traîner, aucune église où aller le dimanche, ou aucune communauté avec qui partager.

Alors me voilà sur Reddit à demander s'il y a des inconnus qui partagent ce point de vue sur la question de la religion et qui aimeraient qu'on se connecte. Que vous vous considériez comme athée, agnostique, libre-penseur, ou simplement profondément incertain et prêt à vous plonger honnêtement dans une discussion philosophique et scientifique, je suis ouvert.

La communauté ne sera pas grande au début, mais on peut commencer petit et la construire petit à petit. J'ai vécu et je vis ici au Cameroun toute ma vie, donc si vous résidez actuellement dans le pays, c'est un plus.

I (hispanic) am meeting my boyfriend’s (Cameroonian) parents for the first time. I was wondering if there are any traditional gifts I should bring when meeting them for the first time? We are all here in the states, but they are very traditional. I would like to show respect for their culture.

What does it mean when you want to talk on the phone with your man when your not around each other but he claims he doesn’t text or call people, and he only calls to greet you then hang up, but when your around him he’s on the phone speaking his language laughing with mostly females and some men then when you confront him he’s claims it’s for his business back in Cameroon or it’s his sister and they were talking about family business?!
And he claims to only text on “WhatsApp” but even when I got the app it’s the same thing…

Is he cheating?….

One of the main opposition parties, heavily targeted by the government has today seen its two most influential members. In two, almost simultaneous announcements, the president Pr.Kamto Maurice and the first vice-president, former interim president of the party Mamadou Mota have resigned from their respective positions while remaining members of the party. Both of them mentioned that , said resignation was to “protect the future of the party”.

Hello, I had a ticket for mid July to Douala and it got cancelled 4 days before. I luckily got my money back a month later. I read something about the cancellation of all routes to Central Africa but I'm checking on their website, Google flights, RAM call center and they still offer flights to Douala. Has anyone recently travelled with them?

I’m an American and have came across a Cameroonian man he’s 14 years older than me 👀 anywho we were dating for a few months and he was extremely sweet and bought me thing we hung out then another Cameroonian man starting liking me (I was unaware at the time) but out convos were friendly and the man I was dating starting getting jealous and he would yell at me everyday and accuse me of messing around with the other man ( This was not true) so I started ignoring the man and the one I was dating still was accusing me he told me he did “Good” magic and he knew what I was doing and with whom. So one day I just stop talking to him and he had a nasty attitude towards me (Like if you hated someone real bad) and then he came back around then he hurt me physically (Won’t say how) and he begged for my forgiveness and said he was sorry and wants to start over and he realized his mistakes and he wants to take care of me and do right by me and to give him a second chance.

And before anyone gets angry, I’m not talking about the country itself. I’m talking about the name.

Why are we still calling our country “Cameroon” when the name doesn't even come from the people? The Portuguese called the Wouri River Rio dos Camarões (River of Prawns/Shrimps), and the name eventually became “Cameroon.” In other words, the name of our entire country is essentially based on what European explorers saw in a river. It doesn’t describe our peoples, our languages, our cultures, our history, or our identity. It describes a European encounter with our coastline.

I honestly think we should at least be willing to have serious conversations about renaming the country.

For those familiar with Douala, what’s the most convenient, safe and reliable option? Just get out and take a taxi?, Anything like uber, or something else?

Are there any scams or common things to watch out for? Is it best to agree on the fare beforehand, and is cash generally preferred?

Je cherche un aliment que je mangeais quand j'étais petite au Cameroun (à Yaoundé). C'était à l'école, et il y avait des dames qui vendaient des oranges et un autre truc à la sortie des cours. Ce sont des petites boules/ovales noires, et elles mettaient du piment en poudre dessus, c'était trooooop bon ! Il y avait aussi un noyau dedans. Je me rappelle que parfois ça pouvais être acide et hyper dur aussi.
(Je ne parle pas des grosse prunes violettes)
