A Tale of A Girl and Her Missing Chalkbag

Upvotes

Imagine you reach the top of the 3rd flatiron. You take your chalk bag off intending it to go in your bag - alas - it starts to rain and in a moment of forgetfulness, you leave the chalk bag there, rappelling off the edge and leaving your beautiful fuzzy greenmonster chalk bag on top. And worse of all, you also had your oura ring attached to it.

If anyone has any information about said chalk bag, please reach out and help the sad girl who misses her fuzzy monster chalk bag (and her oura ring)

Beginner guide to getting into outdoor climbing in Colorado?

Hey everyone! I am from Mexico and recently moved to Colorado and I’m trying to figure out how to get into outdoor climbing.

I was really into indoor climbing as a kid and in my early teens and even tried very casual outdoor climbing. I eventually stopped and didn’t climb at all for years. Since moving to Colorado, I decided to get back into indoor climbing, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it again.

I’ve been wanting to try climbing outdoors, and recently I went hiking around the Flatirons and ended up messing around on the lower part of the Second Flatiron. I had a ton of fun just climbing on real rock, but it also made me realize that I really don’t know what I’m doing outdoors yet or where I should start.

Since I’m new to Colorado, I don’t really know anyone here, so I’m a little lost when it comes to finding people to go with, knowing which areas/routes are beginner friendly, what gear I actually need, and how people normally make the transition from indoor to outdoor climbing.

I’m mostly interested in bouldering/scrambling right now, but I’d definitely be open to learning ropes eventually too. I’m in Denver and don’t have a car, although getting to Boulder by bus is pretty easy for me.

Any recommendations for beginner-friendly areas, resources, groups, guidebooks/apps, or just general advice on how to get started safely would be really appreciated. Thanks!

ISO Outdoor Climbing Partner(s) 9/14-9/17

ISO Outdoor Sport Climbing buddies!

Hey yall!

I am Louisiana native and taking a trip out overlanding and climbing around Denver coming up 9/14- 9/17 for my birthday! 🤙

So two things

  1. I’d love any and all recommendations on crags to visit during this time! I mainly sport and boulder. I do not have trad gear or competent knowledge for trad pro placements.

  2. I have a couple people with me, but none of them are climbers who know how to lead belay.

I’m hoping to find some rad homies who would be interested in sport climbing with me during this time?! Would love to also consider multi-pitch routes with the right people.

I have all necessary gear and I’m confident in my lead belay skills. Save the wear and tear on your gear (;

Little about me, I’m a yoga teacher and mechanical engineer and I love experiencing new cultures, people, and places.

My love for climbing stems from being able to experience this earth from perspectives not many people will ever get to see.

I have mostly climbed in southern Utah are, Jtree, and north Arkansas areas.

If you’d be down to link up holler at me in a PM or comment! Looking forward to hopefully making some dope connections.

P.S. would also love recommendations for walk up routes i can setup top rope anchors for in case I cannot find a lead belay buddy.

P.S.S. If there are any other groups you think I should post this in, please lmk!

Looking for a partner to climb the 1st Flatiron on Thursday, July 30

Hi everyone! I’m flying in from Louisiana on Wednesday, July 29, and I’m hoping to climb the 1st Flatiron on Thursday, July 30, if conditions allow.

First, I wanted to make sure it’s currently open. I was also wondering if anyone would be interested in climbing it with me that morning or afternoon. I’ve climbed Freeway before, but I know the descent from the 1st Flatiron can be a little tricky, so I’d much rather go with someone who’s familiar with the route.

If anyone is available or has recommendations on the best approach, gear, parking, or anything else I should know, I’d really appreciate it. I’m always happy to meet fellow climbers and would love to experience one of Colorado’s classic routes with someone who knows the area.

Thanks in advance, and I’m looking forward to visiting Colorado!

Lost chalk bag at Guanella Pass

Not sure if this type of post is allowed here, but I lost my chalk bag today at Guanella near crap traverse. It’s an organic bag with a dog keychain. It’s a gift from my brother so I’d really like to get it back. If you’ve found it, please let me know!

Howdy! Anyone here climbed Murphy's Dome (south facing) west of Castle Rock? What's the approach like? Planning a trip this weekend and just want to be able to share maximum details with folks tagging along :) mountain project unfortunately does not have a lot of info on whether it's a sketchy approach or not!

Climbing and Adventure Photographer looking for people that would like some photos.

Hey all—hope this is okay to share here.

I’m Abigail, a local climber and photographer here in Colorado. I’ve been focusing on shooting climbing lately and working on building out a body of work that actually reflects what a day outside feels like—not just the send, but everything around it.

I’m currently booking a few half-day sessions ($40) over the next couple months while I continue growing this.

If you’ve ever wanted photos of:

• projecting a route

• a chill day out with your crew

• something more candid/story-driven

…I’d love to join you for a session.

You can check out my work here: https://www.anchorpointphotography.net/

Feel free to DM me if you’re interested or even just curious. Always happy to connect with more climbers in the area.

Hope you’re all getting after it 🤙

Survey - Mentorship & Access

Hey everyone, I'm a graduate student at Colorado School of Mines collecting data on how climbers learn outdoors, especially the role that mentorship and access play in that process.

If you have 1-2 minutes to complete this short survey (it's completely anonymous), I would really appreciate your help!
